I'm looking forward to the day we would have a Nigerian flag flying like this on Proforce or Ezugwu MRAP APC.

Definitions are being mixed up,an attack helicopter is a helicopter used for interdiction of ground forces and CAS whether they are armed with rockets, missiles or just simply canons. The principle is to attack ground targets. So what we bought are attack helicopters by the same principle. What is being bandied as "attack helicopters" like the Apache, are anti_armour attack helicopters for high threat and intensity environments.Mi35 is a troop transport helicopter for high threat environments, that is why the Russians have a dedicated anti_armour attack helicopter.Mi 28.
The goal of the Apache was to stop Russian armoured tanks and AAA from rolling into Europe, that is why it is armed with ATGM and protected with heavy armour. That does not mean that helicopters armed with simple cannons are not attack Helios. Such small Helios are the history of attack helicopters. In fact the mangusta is partially based on the airframe of the A109.
Let me make it simple for you.

A helicopter designed primarily for transport = transport helicopter.

A helicopter designed primarily for an attack role = Attack helicopter.

An A109 was and always will be a helicopter primarily designed for transport... Hence its a transport helicopter

Stargate254:

That's a bunch of bull, blame the African army cause they obviously don't know what they are doing mentality

When you are a sentry and someone attacks your camp, do you all leave your posts and go to where the attack is happening? what if another group of the attackers was waiting in the bush for you to leave your assigned post, and the first attack was the distraction, and as soon as you leave they gained entry to the main camp? did the writer think of that?
If it had been the American sentries who did that it would have been called "Taking cover and holding their position" but because it was the Africans its called "hiding in the grass".

And the capturing and releasing of suspects who were standing at the perimeter fence, Anyone of them could have been :

1. An alshabaab member left behind after being separated from the attackers during the gunfight and was trying to blend in with the crowd.
2. Or could have been standing there with a radio coordinating the attack from a far (Something that actually happened during the garissa attack and thats how one of the suspects now serving life in prison was arrested with a radio, map of the university with drawing of where they would attack, a DVD with radical propaganda..etc)
3. Alshabaab could have left and IED or rigged some explosives and left a guy to wait till military personnel gathered at the location then the guy would remotely detonate the IED while watching right at the edge of the perimeter.
4. Could have been standing at the fence tasked with recording the aftermath with a camera or a smartphone for propaganda purpose.....

--------------
All those are reasons to arrest suspiciously looking people standing by after you have just been attacked, I mean who stands by at the fence of a location that has just been attacked by alshabaab, normal average people run away from the gunfight. [And they were released after being found innocent (but too curious), if KDF was unprofessional, they would have insisted they were terrorists in order to save face] I bet you, if KDF had not bothered to even do that, the same article would have said KDF didn't even cordoned off the perimeter to nab any suspects and just left them to slip away however or whenever they want.
The American planes were about to take off, Like I have told you before, the airstrip side of the camp is very unsecured, so much so that the Americans soldiers in humvees usually place themselves strategically around the runway when planes are taking off or landing to ward off any wild animals or walk ins by people from the bush ---- Where were they this time? They probably got lazy doing that so the blame shouldnt be entirely squared on KDF....

And BTW, if KDF were the cowards that the article wants to paint them, how/where did they find the courage to follow the rest of the fleeing attackers , This was the commander of the attack, he was killed 15km from the camp after being trailed by KDF from the same camp

Ofc! I couldn't be bothered to respond especially almost 2 weeks after the fact. Which soldier breaks cover and deliberately exposes himself when rounds are flying?
That follow up was pure determination and balls! He could've been leading them into an ambush. If he were a US patrol leader the episode would already be on Warfighters2!

Getting ahead of yourself and posting untruths. A109 is a utility helicopter. Transport helicopters would be MI 8/17/17ISH, Black Hawks or Super Puma.
The only dedicated attack helos may just be the Apaches, Mangustas, Tigers, MI 28Ns and KA 52s BUT as someone said, it is the mission that defines the designation for the utility choppers

I like the work Gambia doing to protect its waters from unregulated fishing. I wish Nigeria would do the same. There's lots piracy and illegal fishing activity. There's millions or dollars and lots protein being taken.

It's the role that defines its designation and yes as you said the A109 is a utility helicopter used primarily for transport but also for S&R, maritime roles, and occasionally fire support..... It's not an AH

Role
You have lost the plot.

As the Kenyan MD-530F shows, the role of the helicopter defines it's designation.

AW-109K's in the Nigerian air force are used primarily as CAS platforms, hence the designation as an attack helicopter.

The A-109e is used as a utility, MEDVAC in the Nigerian Air Force hence it's designation as a utility helicopter.

Military equipments across the world have different designations according to the roles they are used.

Japan's IZUMO class aircraft carries are called helicopter carries, despite the fact they can deploy F-35s.

The Nigerian army refers to MRAPs with heavy machine guns as armoured fighting vehicles because they are not used as troop transports, instead fire support vehicles.

The 45 meters vessel the Nigerian navy is currently building is referred to as a seaward defence boat, other countries refer to it as an IPV or MPV.

In Algeria, their 60 meters locally built vessels armed with anti-ship missiles, CIWS and 76mm gun is referred to as a Corvette, but in other countries they are missile boats. In Nigeria we would refer to a 60 meters vessel as a seaward defence boat.

Designations for military equipments are not cast in stone, equipment designations change depending on the country using them.

As for the izumo class carrier it's still remains a helicopter carrier it's just an Improvised means for deploying the F35 since it's VTOL capable.

Lack of training and equipment, sufficient resources is always needed, Niger is a very very poor country, not saying that to be offensive, just reality (not comparing them to any country).
But they should start by firing all their intelligence leaders, that's pure failure right there, regardless which country is concerned

Yeah...it's a thing with choppers(civilian and military). The attrition rate is just too high....safety standards need to be urgently improved.

Its that time again, the Las Vegas Shot Show is here again!

A totally revolutionary new pistol, the Alien from Laugo Arms of the Czech republic. Its a cleansheet design, not a rebuild or upgrade of a CZ or 1911 type. A low bore axis makes it faster to shoot by reducing recoil also giving it a flatter shape making civilian carry that much easier.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeQsMZREvP8

Eagerly waiting to see it in the bigger .40,.357 Sig and 10 mm!
