NIGERIAN AIR FORCE ALPHA-JET LOOSES RADAR CONTACT

A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha-Jet has lost contact with radar in Borno State, while on interdiction mission in support of ground troops. The mission was part of the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North East. The loss of radar contact occurred at about 5:08 pm on 31 March 2021.

Details of the whereabout of the aircraft or likely cause of contact loss are still sketchy but will be relayed to the general public as soon as they become clear. Meanwhile, search and rescue efforts are ongoing.

I noticed some early model Alpha jets still flying recently.
That's about 35 year old aircrafts.

What remains is for Boko Haram to send a team disguised as civillians to the place with a video camera. They will tape a few minutes of footage then melt away.
After posting it on such social media, some mentally challenged youth will agree that they "brought down" the jet.

We really need to replace those alpha jets, they have tried.

105mm is not going to be destroying any tanks, but as BH is not rolling around in tanks its very much adequate to pulverize them.
One thing I hope we are doing is transfer of technologies and if not we need to have a dedicated team of engineers stripping these vehicles so we can reverse engineer these things, a country as big as Nigeria should Atleast be able to be producing its own guns, howtizers, turrets e.t.c.

UPDATE ON MISSING NAF ALPHA JET AIRCRAFT

Intelligence report gathered by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) indicates that the Alpha Jet aircraft (NAF475) that went off the radar with 2 crew members on board on 31 March 2021 might have crashed.

The cause of the crash as well as the whereabouts of the 2 pilots remain unknown. The pilots are Flight Lieutenant John Abolarinwa and Flight Lieutenant Ebiakpo Chapele.

Extensive search and rescue efforts are still ongoing by NAF surveillance aircraft as well as NAF Special Forces and Nigerian Army troops on ground.

At this point, the NAF is not ruling out anything regarding the incident. It however remains hopeful that the crew would soon be found and rescued.

I just watched the video, it looks edited, yes the plane went down but it kind of look doctored, especially the explosion.

the plane crashed most likely due to technical issues and Boko haram doctored the video to suit their narrative .

I think the logical way forward for the SA Navy is to simply continue with acquiring more of these ipvs, honestly with a range of 4000NM what extra capacity will the opvs bring. The fleet can be composed of 6 of these Biro ipvs and the Meko, the rationale of having an opv in between there is indulgent IMO. 6 of these will only cost R3bn if not less and they can have an all SA combat system, comms and radar, allowing exports (as Kabe alluded to they can be marketed as small corvettes and for only $35m each, very compelling value proposition for many African countries)

Are you sure about that price,my dude? The iteration of the P 400,like the KN Harambee 2,the Vigilante 700 CL65 Offshore Patrol Vessel seen here goes for same price. It can carry a medium weight chopper or leave space for a large inflatable boat aft.

Are they also eyeing the JF 17? On a not completely unrelated sidenote around 2008-2010 the Zimbos approached the KAF will a novel idea. They proposed supplying diamonds from the then new Marange diamond fields in exchange for Hawk spares which both forces had in storage. In fact at Uhuru in 1980,the KAF sent 2 Hawks to Harare.
Fyi,each Zim formation was allocated direct access to Marange riches for a time,IDK how long to mine and sell;but every unit had its time at the Marange mines. At this time the economy had completely collapsed and London had become known as Harareland North with massive migration. EVERYTHING,all normal systems and procedures had broken down.

In November 2008 the Air Force of Zimbabwe was sent, after some police officers began refusing orders to shoot the illegal miners.[22] Up to 150 of the estimated 30,000[23] illegal miners were shot from helicopter gunships .In 2008 some Zimbabwean lawyers and opposition politicians from Mutare claimed that Shiri was the prime mover behind the military assaults on illegal diggers in the diamond mines in the east of Zimbabwe
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marange_diamond_fields#2010:_Sale_of_Marange_diamonds

But in a stone age economy Marange was the only symbol of real wealth.

In August 2010 Zimbabwe resumed the sale of diamonds from the Marange fields. On August 11, buyers flew into the country's capital, Harare, from all over the world, including Israel, India, Lebanon and Russia to capitalise on the sale of over US$1.5 billion worth of diamonds
