kikuyu1, didn't know you guys also employ Chute Systems?

Yep! Since at least 05-07. We've had an airborne capacity since 1965 just after independence. The 1st Independent para coy was stood up.

However the plan to set up the unit was mooted immediately Kenya gained its independence when on October 14, 1964 forty officers were sent to Britain for Parachute Basic Training Course at Royal Air Force Base, Abingdon.[3] The unit can therefore trace its roots to the 1st Independent Parachute Company that was established on April 24, 1965.

There were 4 Beverlys,a 4 engine turboprop for jumps and transport-I can't find a pic now. Also Brits,US Rangers provide training with Czech 601st SFG training our specops in jumping. Its always good to get wide exposure and develop own doctrine from the knowledge base. Speaking of which ever seen the vid of the "worlds worst paras" from Exercise Flintlock 19? Idk who they are.

I'd pay good money to see their landing! Good to see tiny Lesotho has a para unit. But Zambia-are you sure?

When SADC Special Forces started joint annual exercises, the Zambians realised their 1 Commando Battalion wasn't up to standard.
So they brought people down to SASF Brigade for Selection, and for instructors to observe the training cycle.

They then employed Chute to develop doctrine, offer airborne training and supply equipment. In fact, just saw an article that says prior to Chute establishing facilities in-country, the Zambians were taken to Chute run facilities in Botswana.

I read a fascinating theory on the Zulu wars in Spyhunter by Brit barrister Michael Shrimpton. He says they were helped by the Germans! As were the Boers. His book is a chronicle of their misdeeds since the late 1800s and tbh he's def anti German saying not enough died in the massive Anglo bombings of Germany.
He actually believes the official 911 story and declared the Abu Ghraib pix fake, along with the Saddam WMD noise, rmbr? Anyway, he says David Rattray, a researcher of Zulu history was silenced in 2007 to prevent this coming to light.

Murdered historian, author and battlefield expert David Rattray confided in a friend his fears about endemic crime in South Africa.

In the wake of the murder, police on Sunday combed through his home as stunned friends said they believed the slaying may have been planned.

Nothing was stolen when Rattray, 48, was shot dead on Friday in his home at Fugitive's Drift Lodge, near Dundee in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Another expert on Zulu history died hard, very hard in 2016. He was a confidante of the late Rattray.

British expert on the Anglo-Zulu war dies after robbers tortured him and poured boiling water over him at his cottage beside the battlefields of Rorke's Drift
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3799825/British-expert-Anglo-Zulu-war-dies-robbers-tortured-poured-boiling-water-cottage-battlefields.html

A similar fate befell his mentor, historian David Rattray, who was shot dead in 2007 by intruders at his lodge in KwaZulu-Natal

Imo, Shrimpton's theory is plausible.

DIRECT ACCESS TO NIGERIAN ELITE WARPLANES | THE NAF SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA'S MOST ADVANCED AND LETHAL AIR FORCE

Only a delusional security analyst will go to town on a foreign media and twitter to whine ISWAP has permanent training bases. If amateur child soldiers is what they have left to throw at us clearly shows they have been badly wounded and bleeding and bleeding very badly and no stop to the bleeding. Someone remember the end of World War 11 and the end of the Nazi Reich with the Hitler youth, apparently history has a way of repeating itself. Any terrorists that do not surrender will be reduced to minced meat and their media collaborators will be fished out. The terrorists cause is a futile and lost war. It is only going to end one way: victory for the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The Nigerian military is not going anywhere. This is our land. We are here to stay.

Anything, ANYTHING is possible! We're in a global geopolitical terra incognita. What was once unbelievable now passes without notice. Did you see the Saudis massive defence deal with Russia last year?

[
Increasingly, Russia and China are courting nations that have long relied on the United States as a security partner. Saudi Arabia and Russia recently $110 billion defense capabilities package. Last December, the State Department made a determination approving the possible sale of 3,000 GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs and related items.
https://www.heritage.org/defense/commentary/russia-and-saudi-arabia-are-getting-closer-america-should-worry

You know the implications on the petro dollar ofc.
In another unprecedented move the Pentagon is ignoring the Fiden (sic) team completely !

Pentagon blocked members of President Joe Biden’s incoming administration from gaining access to critical information about current operations, including the troop drawdown in Afghanistan, upcoming special operations missions in Africa and the Covid-19 vaccine distribution program, according to new details provided by transition and defense officials.
https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/20/biden-pentagon-transition-460768

Mid last year China lost a secret air war with Taiwan and now US allies are keeping the latter at bay in the SCS. Last week Russian assault ships entered the Baltic sea alarming the Swedes.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — A top military chief in Sweden said Friday that there is increased Russian activity in the Baltic Sea which “deviates from the normal picture,” leading the Scandinavian nation’s military to raise its preparedness.

Earlier this week, Maj. Gen. Lena Hallin, head of Sweden’s military intelligence agency MUST, said that “we are far from a normal situation for Swedish security today.”

“For some time, developments have been moving in the direction of a serious security policy crisis in Europe, and it has accelerated in recent months,” Hallin said. “It is an illusion that tensions in Europe would be temporary.”

Part of the difficulty in interpreting these moves is identifying the exact players: eg which faction is responsible for China's Himalayan brinkmanship with you guys? Is it a united Politburo play? PLAAN hardliners undermining the latter? Or Xi Jinping and a clique of these forces with their own financial and political agenda?

1st world defence budget ishyt!

We Africans constantly cry we're too poor to buy the shiny ishyt we want need for our fighting formations, the APCs,MRAPs,choppers, transport planes and corvettes necessary for the defense of our national sovereignty. Its only to be expected-after paying for infrastructure, health, education and debt repayment there simply isn't much left over, especially if your tax/GDP ratio is low below 20%.
What if you're a 1st world nation with a per capita income of well over 40k$? You already have the cadre plus the software and hardware to build 4.5++ tac air, subs and the entire range of cleansheet ground vehicles. However due to politics and feminine logic you deliberately underspend less than 1.5% of GDP for decades. What happens then?
Guys,I give you Germany! A few yrs back they didn't have a single operational sub after one ran aground.

What's wrong with the Bundeswehr?

Bartels pointed to "big gaps" in personnel and equipment. At the end of 2017, no submarines and none of the air force's 14 large transport planes were available for deployment due to repairs.
Other equipment, including fighter jets, tanks and ships, was outdated and in some cases not fully operational because of bad planning or a lack of spare parts. Some air force pilots were unable to train because too many aircraft were being repaired.
Soldiers have experienced increasing levels of stress and there was a lack adequate leadership due to some 21,000 vacant officer posts.
The report said the government needed to pursue reforms "with greater urgency" and increase defense spending.
A lack of funding and inefficient management structures and planning were behind the problems. Germany has cut defense spending since the end of the Cold War. In 2017, it spent about 1.2 percent of its economic production in 2017 on the armed forces, which is below the 2 percent target recommended by the NATO alliance.
https://www.dw.com/en/germanys-lack-of-military-readiness-dramatic-says-bundeswehr-commissioner/a-42663215

A decade ago their Dutch cousins sold their last 60 Leop[ard 2A6s to Finland-they've never been replaced. Yes,the Dutch have no tanks!

The 2008 recession hit hard in The Netherlands. The government cut its spending by $40 billion starting in 2009. Among other reductions, the army eliminated both of its tanks battalions and their Leopard 2A6 tanks.

The Leopard 2s fired their last cannon rounds in training in May 2011. “This feels like a funeral,” said Capt. Johnny Romein, an officer in one of the tank battalions.

The Netherlands quickly sold to Finland 100 of the roughly 120 Leopard 2s it had in storage. The plan at the time was also to sell off the last 20 or so tanks.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2020/11/30/the-dutch-army-eliminated-all-its-tanks-then-realized-it-had-made-a-huge-mistake/

In 2018 Trump called for all NATO members to take up the slack and increase defense spending to 2% of GDP. A very interesting photo was taken of their meeting. At such events everything is choreographed-the body language, facial expressions and non verbals are explained by handlers beforehand. The meaning here is clear: "we're on our own, leave us alone!"

As we screech for Sues and T 90s lets rmbr Heinz and Dirk!

Heinz has seen the need to up his defence spending-finally!

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz took the floor and, within half an hour, did away with decades of political restraint and ushered in a new era of German foreign and security policy. He proposed the creation of a special fund of €100 billion (US$112 billion) to be spent on military procurement and pledged to allocate more than 2 per cent of Germany’s gross domestic product (GDP) to defence.

The people are all for it with a 69% approval rating. No surprise as Germans, at least the ones I've known are fundamentally rational. Looking closely the intent is to spend this on PROCUREMENT, not training, welfare, maintenance or the usual line items which is WUNDERBAR!?

This vid explains how the Luftwaffe will get 40%,Navy 20%, Army to spend remainder on AFVs a Leopard 2 replacement and personal gear from comms and uniforms.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmjoDUk336U/url]

Edit: after 2 decades of underspending Germany may still need an extra 25 bn euros yearly!?

The opportunity costs of defence underspending are MASSIVE.

The first mistake was letting Asimi Goita get away with it in Mali, then failed to impose a no fly zone in Guinea and intervene militarily in both countries however bad it looked optically especially doing so for the former third term president in Guinea. Now Burkina Faso, I mean these guys are basically plotting among themselves to circumvent ECOWAS sanctions, you don't need a seer to read between the lines. It's all carefully orchestrated under the usual guise of failed politicians something we know too well as the slogan of soldiers for taking power. It is merely cowardice, soldiers can't fight rampaging terrorists then leave their jobs at the front for cozy offices in the capital siphoning the commonwealth to distant lands.

Nigeria's president Buhari and its ruling party the APC as with all their ineptitude again failed to lead. This would never have happened under a proactive president like Obasanjo. As it is ECOWAS should quickly negotiate a return of the constitutional order and reinstatement of the president in Qaugadougou or else slam even harsher sanctions on all three countries and shut them out of civilization till common sense prevails among its citizenry to reject unconstitutional change of government. As a follow up activate its standby force for intervention starting with Mali the agent provocateur of all this nonsense. In this day and age a one man rule is inexcusable and why is it only Africans suffer from this archaism.

NAF WINGING NEW PILOTS

This is the current trend and new normal in the NAF since 2015. This exceeds anything elsewhere in sub-saharan Africa. Nothing like capacity building which is just as important as building capabilities. And better to build from inside-out as Nigeria does in all three Armed Services than outside-in as we've seen with a certain no longer viable competitor down South. As I've said year's back the man is more important than the machine. The machine in the wrong hands as we see in some Arab armies or as in Afghanistan is a waste of time.

The Theater Command Op Hadin Kai and the 7th Division troops AOR has north of 20,000 soldiers. That's a drop in the bucket of the AFN manpower. The North East is no longer the challenge it used to be in fact I can predict in a years time many of those forces will be withdrawn back to the barracks as the military now has the precision assets to mitigate any yawning gaps.

When we use the word overstretched with regards to the military it simply means combatant troops operations in 33 states of the 36 states of the federation doesn't imply lack of troops or means. The NSA and CDS continues to generate fresh pool of troops yearly to meet contemporary challenges so that current deployments hasn't stopped Nigeria deploying troops outside the country.

Nigeria still has modest troop presence abroad and can be quickly scaled up in the case of an emergency. That said Nigeria now has a modern military with the firepower to plug the gaps of numbers as seen in The Gambia with support troops from other ECOWAS countries, it becomes highly unlikely to deploy high concentration of troops like we saw in Liberia and Sierra Leone. The North-East is an example. There's no sub-regional army that can bring the heat as bad as ISWAP has done in the last few years and if we can contain these terrorists effectively by the force of arms we can capture any West African capital and State House in less than a fortnight.
