I hate to say this but this plan would fail. There are more Nigerians "dying" to visit the UK than the other way round , Like wise there are more Nigerians already residing in the UK than the other way round. The easiest way to get back at this imperialist clowns would be to withdraw our membership from the farcical "common wealth", nationalize all british owned companies in Nigeria , Renegotiate our contracts with British oil cooperations in Nigeria , Cease all contributions made by Nigeria to their "Omo-onlie" queen grin grin

Hezron Lorraine: the Commonwealth is a strategic command body for uniting ex-colonies.from your resoning, you assume the UK single-handedly controls the Commonwealth.it is a league of nations. Most members share the same system.

Benefits are not monetary or finance only.there as always been exchange of ideas in various fields of study.it boasts sustainanble research and innovations that can be shared amongst the member-nations.

Aids are given to less-priviledged nations,we may not need it,but smaller nations can make do with them.

One thing the Commonwealth has failed to do is it only relied on A Common Sense of Belonging and left its duty as to promoting member-nations advancement.it should have been a power body that influences other nations decision through the unity it possesses.but it has failed with that.

There was once was free-movement amongst the member's of this body.it can still happen with right motive and booswt development of all memberd equally.

Try to be brief, precise n concise. Didn't u do summary at school? U hv not answer not da phucking question. If African countries in da commonwealth shares n exchange ideas with Britain, then how come most African countries looks like a refuse dump especially Nigeria. Wot ideas can Shitluck Jonathan exchange n share wit Britain apart from stealing n looting. grin

Our Govt are so stoopid. They want to charge British nationals £5'000 bond as if they will overstay their visa. Also what guarantee is there that they will even get their money back when returning?

It is funny that a lot of you guys still don't see this for what it is. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
The UK just wants an "added revenue" stream. The economy is in "shambles". They need all the money they can get. They know the bond will only guarantee more visa inquiries since NIGERIANS ALREADY SPEND more than that to "ARRANGE" visas anyway. The expectation is that visa applications will increase and they'll probably see less than 30% return to collect their "bond" back.

Another garbage, when was the last time you read about the UK economy situation?

silly british. Our fathers didn't put them on the 'risk list' when they were swarming here to colonize us. Now that we are matured enough to go there and enjoy our treasures they looted from us which they used to develope their land, they are shouting risky.

Nigeria and their Fire Bridge approach mentality.

Do they now how many British born Nigerians or Nigerian born British citizens this will affect.

They could have targeted another industry like British airways or refuse to sell oil or kick out BP (if they exist)

ITS TEETH FOR TACT. NIGERIA IS NOT A COUNTRY THE BRITISH CAN RECOLONISE. WE ARE A BIG AND A GREAT COUNTRY, THE
BRITISH MUST RESPECT THAT, ITS NOT AN OPTION.
IF NIGERIA DID NOT RETALIATE THEN OTHER COUNTRIES WILL SOON FOLLOW THIS KIND OF INHUMAN POLICY. SAVE NIGERIANNNNN IMAGEEEEEEEE, (S.N,I)PROTECTING THE INTEREST OF NIGERIANS HOME AND ABROAD.

New Alfa: This is useless and won't hurt UK.

If they want to really, retaliate, they may have to start imposing special trade tax on uk companies trading in Nigeria. Like BP. That will make them squirm. But with all these corrupt 2 naira officials, I can keep dreaming.

♈̷̴̩є̲̣aн̣̇!! Your comment is on point, that's the SOLUTION, the RETALIATION. let them pay higher tax, but Naija is looking for foreign investors .....shey dat doesn't mean we are trying to scare the existing away with the yet to come "special tax"

In the early 1970s up until early 80s, there was oil boom in Nigeria, the exchange rate for a £1 was N1, Nigerians were doing fine cos the economy was booming. No nigerian even have a thought of going to the UK or US to work except for study purpose.

Because of the huge resources from the lenght and breath of Nigeria, most europeans refused to go back to their various countries even when Nigeria had been declared as an independent country.

Due to Nigeria's huge human & mineral resources, the developed countries lead by UK (through the IMF et al) encouraged our leaders to devalue our Naira & when they refused, they encouraged some young military coup plotters who were desperate for power, to destabilise our economy.

These crop of leaders (puppets) devalued the Naira to what it is today and the rest as they say,is HISTORY.

The repercurssion is what we are seeing today. High rate of Unemployment, corruption, greed, undemocratic institutions, bad leadership etc.

Now, because of our currency they devalued, most Nigerian youths are desperate to travel to UK, US & other developed countries in order to make a living for themselves. Need I say that,as at today, getting a visa to UK, US etc is like the Biblical story of a camel passing through the eye of a needle. And now, the introduction of £3000 for any Nigerian visiting the UK.

How low can the UK go? If our leaders succumb to this rubbish from UK, they should be ready for more humiliation to come as this won't be last.

My solution, instead of retaliating by introducing £5000(which is nothing anyway), I'll advice that we bring our exchange currency at par with the UK. If the UK economy is at is lowest, and the Nigerian economy at is highest(irrespective of the mismanagent of funds), how come the BP sterling is still about 250times as powerful than our Naira.

The advantage of making the Naira at par with £ is that;
(1) It'll automatically reduce the desperation of Nigerians wanting to travel abroad for greener pastures.
(2) More money for Nigerians to spend abroad e.g Nigerians can afford to pay the £3000 bond by just paying N3000 like they use to in the early 60s till late 70s.
(3)Corruption will reduce
(4)High increase of employment
(5)Fair trade
(6) Many other advantages

Apparently, you slept through economics class in school.
For your information, revalueing the naira does not put more money in your pocket.

Yeah, I agree with you Mr Economist. You get more money in your pocket by devaluing the Naira.

^^^ You need to go back to your Economics and learn how currency valuation and similar ingredients work. Do you think it's through decrees, fiat or wishful thinking that worth of your currency is determined?
