What is keeping Africa under-developed is not Big Brother but attitudes as expressed in the OP's article that seek to limit individual choice in the pursuit of some fantasist moral order.

Developed countries have a high correlation with what we in Africa describe as permissiveness. What is BBA compared to all the po-rnography that the West and the Japanese produce? Even in Western countries, there are big differences in living standards like between the ''permissive'' North East and the more religious Deep South. The quicker we learn that a free society is the path to societal development, the better for us.

With all the corruption going on in the higher echelons of power, someone claims that watching Big Brother is the main problem we face.

Hi Friend,
Have you tried any of the "so called" secrets to making money online? Spent $20, $50, $100 on these systems or programs that make bold claims to grand incomes?

What if I told you for a single N500 payment ONE TIME, you could make N7,812,500 in 2 - 4 weeks? There is no harm in trying... no hidden fees or fine print. Read the instructions below and follow them... see the results that follows

What do you have to lose? N500? I would say in this case....

THE RISK IS WORTH THE REWARD!

Take the time NEEDED to READ & FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!

HONESTY & INTEGRITY make this system WORK!!!

 Let’s get started:

Copy this whole page and paste it to your documents folder so you can edit in YOUR PHONE NUMBER.
Follow the simple instructions below and in 2 to 4 weeks, Your account could have as much as N5,000,000+.
There is no limit to the income you can generate from this, as you can do it over and over again!

Follow the THREE (3) simple steps below:

First, if you don’t have an account get one opened in any of the banks around you and request for an atm card.

When you have your Bank Account ready, follow these (3) EASY steps and then repeat (Once a month):

 Step 1:

Send this text (I HAVE JOINED. SEND YOUR ACCOUNT DETAILS ASAP) from your Phone number to THE FIRST(#1) Phone number on the list.
Pay N500 Naira into the account sent to you, then send a follow up message. Making sure to include this message: Payment for Monthly Membership. (THIS KEEPS IT LEGAL.)

Step 2:

Once you have done that, REMOVE the 1st Phone Number and move the 2nd to 1st, the 3rd to 2nd, and then add your Phone Number to the 3rd position. (Make sure your Phone number is correct to receive your payments).

Here is the list:

#1.) 08184531621  (send message "I HAVE JOINED. SEND YOUR ACCOUNT DETAILS ASAP" to this number)

#2.) 07044910664 (Move this Phone Number up to #1)

#3.)
08031570830   (Send CONFIRMATION MESSAGE stating that you have joined and you are now marketing this system to this Number so they can track their 25, move it up to #2 and Put your Phone Number hers as #3)

Now that you have paid the 1st person, save a copy of payment slip or atm printout for your records & send the 3rd person from the list a CONFIRMATION MESSAGE stating that you have joined and you are now marketing this system.

Step 3:

Now, MARKET YOUR LETTER.

You can post on:
Social media eg. Facebook and others, Blogs, Forums and Website with Nigerian traffic eg. Nairaland and others. There are many of them including discussion forums of popular news websites with high traffic, message boards & newsgroups (there are thousands).
Please do not post on foreign sites as this system is serviced with Naira

Also, Send an email to your own list or broadcast to your Blackberry Contact list(if you have one).

YOUR JOB IS TO ENSURE THAT 25 PEOPLE SEND YOU A CONFIRMATION TEXT MESSAGE

If you have NOT received at least 25 replies, keep Marketing the letter until there are at least 25.

Once you have arrived at the 1st position, it means hundreds, even thousands have been working the program since you started. All of those people will then pay you as the 1st and you won’t believe the kind of money that will be generated. Seriously, do the math – WHEN 25 people see and do the exact same thing EVERYONE wins!!!

Send N500 & You WILL QUICKLY Change Your Life and LEGALLY HELP others!

RESULTS-When you reach the 1st spot, and everyone has done their part to get 25 to join:

With you as 3rd on the list you get 25 to join.

Those 25 each get 25 with YOU as 2nd on the list, that = 625.

Those 625 each get 25 with YOU as #1 on the list, that = 15,625.

Those 15,625 will send you N500 and YOU will make over N7,812,500.

Keep in mind – the most you spend is N500 . This works FAST!

Please give it an honest effort, you will not be disappointed and will be very glad you did when it starts to work. Be creative. Remember, all you’re going to be out of pocket is N500, with the opportunity of banking a few millions into your account in 2-4Weeks

For N500 – YOU Can Make BIG Money in an HONEST Way!

If you follow the steps honestly, you can help change your position.

Browse around www.honestefforts.com if you like what you see, share the site on your own social networks! The more people that are exposed to opportunity to improve themselves, the more successful we will all become!

omodapson: Was Big brother produced for the purpose of education? The answer is a big NO! The programme is meant for pure entertainment and it is not enforced on anybody so I don't see the reason for this hullabaloo. The writer of this piece is only looking for attention. Take it or leave it, the world is already corrupt and the programme cannot be solely held for this reason, either here in Africa or anywhere else in the world.

So let the programme be, if you don't like it, don't watch it. And I need to also add that the programme is meant for adults, strictly.

Stopping the programme from being aired will not stop immorality. Immorality has always been living with the human race and it will continue to be until the human race is no more. Leave Religion to continue its fight against immorality. cool
Help me tell them o. If you want something educating, why don't you watch Mindset Learn or Discovery? It's not that hard undecided

I tire for all these holier than thou people sef. I bet all of them would say otherwise if they worked for multichoice. Its not even as if people watch the show at gun point. And the dying "Africanness" they keep bleating about continues to surprise me cos I wonder if anyone would rather live in the pre-colonial era.

Big brother is full of immorality, lewdness, indecent acts and so on. The soul that watches it will never remain the same. Some souls are however seared with hot iron and will not feel a thing.
Re: Big Brother Africa: How Multichoice/dstv Is Under-developing Africa by MrAboki: 10:43pm On Aug 20, 2013
Big brother! Why the fuss about this show? The show isn't a must watch. I haven't seen up to an hour culmulative of this show. The problems of Africa is far from Big Brother show..

The problems in Africa range from Bad and corrupt governments to ethinicity, tribalism and mass underdevelopment/unemployment.

Examples;

The people of Sudan, Mali and co don't have cable. Yet they are killing emselves over ethinicity and religion.

Boko Haram isn't killing people as a result of watching Big Brother.

ASUU strike in nBigeria isn't connectedwith big brother.

When the hutus decided to kill off the Tutsis, Big brother was not a show.

Africans can't and shouldn't be bothered with big brother. When we stop the wars, killings, hunger, violence, kidnappings, robberys, corruption, hunger, inflation, etc, then we can start looking towards big brother as a problem.

@ OP

If you don't like it, then don't watch it and don't let your minor children watch it. Nobody is forcing you. And its not like you can stumble on it by accidentally paying for DSTV, then accidentally going to the channel, then accidentally entering the special code to unblock it.

You may think its bad, but if other adults decide they want to watch it, then that is their right and their business. You have no right to decide what images another adult should be able to look at. You are not the moral guardian of society. Your moral standards are not the same as mine, neither are they the same as Sani Yerima's. What makes your opinion of what is moral better than Yerima's or mine? (you'd better not mention religion!)

I don't watch Big Brother (or any form of broadcast TV other than the rare bit of news and sports), but I will fight for the rights of others to watch whatever nonsense they want.

armadeo: I don't watch big brother but if an adult decides to watch it then that's his prob. As for exposure to kids there's a code that stops viewing programs specified beneath the age range.

I could also ask the same of premier league what do u gain from watching it?? Following players lives what sch their kids go to etc.

Pls big brother is not our problem but intrinsic nigerian issues like bad leadership for one.

i don't know how you were able to compare BBA to EPL but let me enlighten you. Football is a honest and morally right way to earn a living and it's something parents even encourage their to get into. Would you parents encourage you to apply for BBA. Have you heard anyone say it is morally wrong for MIKEL or KANU or OKOCHA etc to play football.
In a nutshell, tell me what positive benefits you think someone from BBA.

I could have sworn that your article was brilliant, but I think it has got some myopic views towards it. In my own opinion, yours is not any different from the outburst of Afrocandy that was shared over the internet some few weeks back. You are only just moral. Personally, I hate when people advertise their morality across the internet. This is 2013 for the good Lord's sake. How exactly is BBA related to homosexuality? You could have said you hate both the idea of homosexuality and BBA reality show. I feel irritated when I hear fellow Africans feel that the west is getting all imperialistic on them. The internet, smartphone and probably the building you were at the time you thought of that all contain a form (or entirely) of western influence. I should mention that this is no longer the colonial era, so please live in this century! Thank you.

I agree with this to an extent. I swear I haven't seen people so obsessed with wearing (fake) Louis Vuitton(?) clothing like some of my schoolmates and their friends from other schools. I swear to god! And the street language they employ, the binge drinking, the drugs, the fornication, the excessive partying! I sometimes wonder if their tuition is wasted. It completely repulses me!
