Rossikk: I've been following the revival of the textile industry with keen interest over the last year. I'm impressed by the amount of work and resources ploughed into this sector by the Jonathan govt after decades of neglect by preceding military regimes.

Chai! But military rule dealt with us sha!! Those guys just dropped everything and faced oil.

Indeed the military COUPISTS who were MAXIMUM rulers and dictators only had their fellow soldiers as their consituents to be taken care of. Dem nor send bloody civilians oh. Nor matter sey na the bloody civilians dem tax money (collected on their BEHALF indirectly from oil companies etc) they were enjoying.
They simply shared and transferred abroad most of the money, usually dashing their girlfriends along the way.
That WAS our story!!!

Godshand:

This one annoying thing abt Nigerians. Once they hear news (with physical verification or not), they begin to jubilate anyhow. What impressive news can a polithiefcian not tell his people just to win thier admirations? Jubilate only when u see those things on ground not on news (online or offline). As far as am concerned, GEJ is the worst failing president we ever had.

grin
End time tins to gej
End time tinz to gej govt
End time tinz to pdp
End time tinz to those who believe this news without physical verifications.

abv all, TINZ TIME END grin

U can arrange it urself grin
end time thinzzzz indeed grin grin ;d

taharqa2: Just saw this very, very GOOD News Today. It seems the Textile Industries is finally been turned around. The BOI's Textile Intervention Fund seemed to be working....

Kudos to GEJ! Next he should ensure quality and keep costs of production are low enough for their products to compete well with imported and smuggled textile products.

Wonderful. These people just sit down in their offices and cook up employment figures. If that is true why not tell us what textile firms employed how many so that it can be independently verified? Rubbish. These people just take nigerians for granted.

You are being clever by half and trying to lay blame where it dodn't exist.

the last Military govt was in 1999, more than 14 years ago and when I left Kaduna in June of 2000, all the textile factories were in full swing.

The report stated that they are Arewa Textile will re-open after 10 years, were the military there 10 years ago? What killed the textile industry was the unbridled greed and taste for all things foreign and then OBJ's useless policy of removing duty from imported textiles.

Also, remember that GEJ as Acting president gave about 10B for the textile industries but still failed to reverse the policy, everyone jubilated and Kaduna textiles resumed but went down again. If this is not followed by policy changes the same outcome will happen after a while: dead/comatose textile industries.

Very welcome development I must say.
I have always wondered how BOI works. What would happen to defaulting firms who for some reason or the other, where unable to stay afloat or pay back? And how would this work fully if imports from Europe and especially cheaper imports from Asia are not banned.

We need proof i.e names and addresses of these textile mills. So that this news can be authenticated. At least when government said they had revived the train service from Lagos to the North, blogger went as far as giving the minute by minute account of what happened on his journey from Lagos to i think Sokoto (not too sure).
So please lets have these info so that this news can authenticated.
