How To Overcome Lust (not For Atheists) by OLAADEGBU(m): 5:19pm On Sep 13, 2013
How to Overcome Lust (not for atheists):

The Bible says: "He that gets wisdom loves his own soul" and that God "stores up sound wisdom for the upright."

When Solomon prayed for wisdom, God was so pleased He gave him wisdom, riches, and long life. James says that if anyone lacks wisdom they should ask God, who gives it "liberally." Those who have wisdom think right, say right, and always do that which is right. So we should seek wisdom with importunity.

The moment we come to Christ we enter a battle with what the Bible calls "the lust of the flesh and the lust of eyes." Lust blinded David and led him into adultery and murder. It is like a taunting Goliath that won't go away until it feeds your flesh to the birds. But here is the smooth stone that will give you victory. Let every lustful thought become a reminder to pray for wisdom. Let every seductive billboard, every filthy advert, every temptation stir you to seek God for wisdom; to pray:

"Lord, Your Word says that I should lift up my voice for understanding, seek her as silver, search for her as for hidden treasures, for You store up sound wisdom for the upright. So I ask for wisdom. Make me wise with my words, my hands, feet, ears, eyes and my thoughts. Give me the wisdom to seek the lost, because 'He that wins souls, is wise.' In Jesus' Name I pray."

Be diligent to pray for wisdom at the mere hint to engage a lustful thought, and you will be soon thanking God that each temptation turns a defeat into a victory. It works. It will bring Goliath down. Now get further equipped for battle:

The Power of Lust

"When we become a Christian, God forgives our every sin and grants us the gift of everlasting life. The cross paid for our crimes against His Law and our case was dismissed. Our death sentence was commuted. That’s the legal side. But experientially we are still tempted by the flirtatious pleasures of sin. Like a man who smokes 40 cigarettes a day has no problem with cigarettes until he tries to stop, so every Christian (particularly males) feels the power of the addiction of sexual lust as soon as he tries to stop."

"The hypocrite secretly gives himself to sexual imaginations, but the Christian knows that God sees his thoughts and considers lust to be adultery (see Matthew 5:27-28), and so he walks in continual and sincere repentance. The hypocrite lacks the fear of God, and dives into sin while the Christian falls into it against his will. The difference is life and death, Heaven and Hell." -- Ray Comfort.

Men will often try to justify lust by saying that there’s nothing wrong with looking at a pretty girl. True, the Bible doesn’t condemn looking at a pretty girl; it condemns “lust.” The conscience knows the difference. - Ray Comfort.

Nice write up sir, but I believe it has more to do with the mindset than just prayer n discipline which is very vital though!

The bible says do not be conformed to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, then you will understand what the perfect will of the Lord is, His good pleasing and perfect will Romans 12:2 (paraphrased).
Lust is strong desires or evil cravings which mostly have to do with sex. This is mostly brought about as a result of what we see, ear, feel etc invariable our mind which is the seat of the soul. Since the main problem is with the mind, what need be done is that the mind be renewed n every other thing will follow suit. We renew our mind as we study the scriptures daily and meditate on it.
The bible enjoins us on what to set our minds on Philippians 4:8. When the mind is always set on the things of the spirit the issue of lust would soon be a forgotten, though the tendency would still be there which is the reason we constantly set our mind on the things of the spirit according to Romans 8:5&6.
Stay blessed and remain rapturable

TEN WAYS T0 BREAK THE STR0NGH0LD 0F P0RN0GRAPHY.

1. Would you ever take P0RN0GRAPHY to church and look at it during worship? You may as well, because God is just as present in your bedroom as He is in the church building.

2. Face the fact that you may not be saved. Examine yourself to ensure that Christ is living in you (2 Corinthian 13:5). See Romans 6:11-22; 8:1-14; Ephesians 5:3-8.

3. Realise that when you give yourself to P0RN0GRAPHY, you are committing adultery (Matthew 5:27-28 ).

4. Grasp the serious nature of your sin. Jesus said that it would be better for you to be blind and go to heaven, than for your eye to cause you to sin and end up in hell (Matthew 5:29).

5. Those who profess to be Christians yet give themselves to P0RN0GRAPHIC materials evidently lack the fear of God (Proverbs 16:6). Cultivate the fear of God by reading Proverbs 2:1-5.

6. Read Psalm 51 and make it your own prayer.

7. Memorise James 1:14,15 and 1 Corinthians 10:13. Follow Jesus' example (Matthew 4:3-11) and quote the Word of God when you are tempted (see Ephesians 6:12-20).

8. Make no provision for your flesh (Romans 13:14; 1 Peter 2:11). Get rid of every access to P0RN0GRAPHIC materials -- the internet, printed literature, TV, videos and movies. Stop feeding the fire.

9. Guard your heart with all diligence (Proverbs 4:23). Don't let the demonic realm have access to your thought-life. If you give yourself to it, you will become its slave (Romans 6:16). Read the Bible daily, without fail. As you submit to God, the devil will flee (James 4:7,8 ).

10. The next time temptation comes, do fifty push-ups, then fifty sit-ups. If you are still burning, repeat the process (see 1 Corinthians 9:27).

"This I say, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh" (Galatians 5:16) The Evidence Bible.

What phobia? Are you scared of hellfire?

And you had to reply me twice... Extreme baiting on a very boring thread.

Jesus said that we love the darkness of sin rather than the light of righteousness, because the human heart finds pleasure in sin. If you don’t believe that, look at the artwork or motion graphics used to attract sales for contemporary entertainment. It reflects what the human heart craves—unspeakable violence, inconceivable horror, and unending sexual perversion.

So, wisdom is the antidote to lust huh?

Funny how Solomon is mentioned in the OP. We all know how Solomon rolled dont we? Doesnt seem like his wisdom curbed his libido, in fact, the opposite might be argued.

Look at the topic then read the last sentence in the OP . Theres nothing about building a kingdom there.

He clearly is saying that wisdom is the antidote to lust. He mentioned Solomon (who is said to have been very wise).

Now we both know how the story goes dont we?

My point is that all the wisdom Solomon had didnt help him with his lust.

And no, Solomon didnt start with women problems.

tpia@:
what solomon specifically asked for was wisdom in governance, which he was given.

besides, he was already married to pharaoh's daughter at the time he made the request-highly significant.

and yes, he did start his reign with women problems.

tpia@

You seem to be responding to something other than the OP.
