"God is watching silently" one says.

Fixing Nigeria is up to Nigerians. The watching silent God is never going to be a part of the solution. The most religious countries are not amongst the most successful countries. Goodness bless Nigeria.

idirect: I admire the OP's love for Nigeria. It's touching. I love it as well but I gave up when the fish in Titus "Sardines" reduced to 2. Oh Lord, we need Goodluck in this country. But not as human being.

You don't know what we need. We do need Goodluck, yes but not as much as Goodwork.

we have unready, vision-less rulers that use 4 years to sort those who helped them to occupy their positions and then another 4 years to steal then start thinking about third term or tenure elongation.
looking at our president for instance, by the end of this tenure, he will be 6 years old as the president of nigeria so tell me what project you have that you cannot finish in 6 years.
he wants another 6 years to complete projects that he is yet to start.
even if someone is into power to steal, 4 years is enough with the way nigeria is to steal for your tenth generations unborn. steal for 4 years and go out and let another man come in and steal. why creating problems among ur criminal cabals that will end up taking the lives of innocent nigerians?

I am an incurable optimist! I believe in Nigeria. In spite of the security challenges, corruption and limited infrastructure, we have so much going for us
1. We are 160million passionate people who have opinion on everything under the sun and are allowed to express our opinions whether we fully understand them or not. We can curse, praise, slander anybody or anything at will. Try that in North Korea and see if your head will be on your shoulder that evening.
2. We have freedom of worship and freedom of association except that parts of the NE are querying this. In some countries, being seen with the Bible is suicide
3. The weather is good. No extremes. In some climes, you change your clothes to suit the weather but in Nigeria, you can wear the same cotton cloth round the year.
4. Zero or few natural disasters. Almost all our disasters are man-made and cannot compare with the magnitude of an earthquake, a hurricane or a typhoon.
5. Fertile land, lush vegetation, cheap food, cheap clothes etc.
6. Home of very talented people: from literature to Nollywood, from football to world bank. Nigerians are smart! We export everything: from pirated films to pentecostalism!
7. The fastest growing economy in sub-saharan Africa.
Great country! Good people(most of the times)! I love my NIGERIA!

Nigeria is ok. Tho Nigeria has a long way to go in terms of development. There should be good leaders in order for Nigeria to move forward. But as time goes by maybe Nigeria would be getting better. There lots of aspects in Nigeria that needs to be addressed in order for Nigeria to move forward. I think we all know the issues affecting Nigeria.
Re: Nigeria At 53 - What Has Been Your Story So Far? by baysol: 10:25am On Oct 02, 2013
BellaDonaFema: When a nation gets it's independence, it gears towards greater heights. I would love to read the stories/comments of all Nigerians at home and in the diaspora: has the nation gotten to its supposed final destination, is it crawling on the road to development, is it fast developing, is the nation better-off in the hands of the Europeans or is it doing just fine on its own as a free-bird!
N/B: By the way, all of you saying happy birthday Nigeria are so wrong! It the Nation's 53yrs of independence
Nigeria became a nation state in 1914, so please do the math.
Cheers to all and sundry!!!

You don't need a babalawo to tell you that a nation that remain a toddler from inception even after 53 years of independence is on the way to the grave naturally with no relevance to its name. Absolutely nothing to cheer about. let us all desist from wishful thinking and constitute SNC asap before more blood shed will make the country both ungovernable and at war. It is obvious that this marriage of inconvenience will never work from the start. Our politics is based on tribal and religious sentiments and no one could erase that. To add salt upon injury crime and corruption add themselves to the list and in recent times it is palpably care that our so-called leaders have no national and common citizens interests at heart. What does this leave us? Let everyone go back to his tribal region and rule themselves with possible control of movement from one region to the other through the visa system to curtail those that come to other places to mess up and bring all sorts of crime and lawlesness with. Not a foolproof solution though, as humans will always be humans. At least this will stir up competitive governing in leaders trying to outdo each other. This is quite impossible under Nigerian system because some leadership groups and their sycophants will never allow equity, credibility and fare play to hold in Nigeria no matter what. History they say is the best teacher. If 100 years of Nigerian history is inadequate then a thousand years of history will be worst. This my own little contribution, however if we stick to the gun of do or die Nigeria, then Goodluck.
