GEJ THE SKILLFUL PLAYER. One salient dev many a critic or analyst have conveniently ignored is the fact that under PGEJ the nation's fortune Sports, especially football has surged. Under GEJ, Our National Football Teams have recorded above 80% win ratio. Today Super Eagles are African Champions again. Other sports, such as Athletics, etc are experiencing same. The Entertainment Industry has also not been left unattended to by GEJ. His intervention Fund has also contributed its quota in making our movie industry move forward.

We are in the path to solid transformation in all areas of national development.
Sports will not be left behind. GEJ is doing all he can to make sure that Nigeria succeeds in all sporting activities.
He paid an unscheduled visit to National Stadium Abuja and discovered how bad the turf had degenerated and he ordered the immediate regrassing of the entire stadium.
He is the first president to pay unsheduled visits to camp to encourage eagles to work hard.
He did it before the nations cup.
He did it in Ethiopia.
He is just our number 10.

It's difficult not to credit GEJ with the outstanding performances of super eagles recently.
He has demonstrated true Interest in their progress. He ensures that their welfare is taken adequate care of. No more stories and controversies about match allowances and bonus. The players are happy.

a retardeen will always find his retardeens praising him.

If you have a family member that is affected by atleast one of the striking unions then i'll say you belong to the retardeen squad for neglecting your familing and blindly praising retardeen simply because you think he would handover presidency to your tribe. Well, presidency aint relay. undecided

nation's fifteenth appearance at the Olympics, except the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, because of the African boycott. Nigeria Olympic Committee sent the nation's smallest delegation to the Games since 1984. A total of 53 athletes, 30 men and 23 women, competed in 8 sports. Men's basketball was the only team-based sport in which Nigeria had its representation in these Olympic games. Among the eight sports played by the athletes, Nigeria marked its official Olympic debut in slalom canoeing.

The Nigerian team featured two Olympic medalists from Beijing: taekwondo jin Chika Chukwumerije, who served as the nation's team captain,[1] and long jumper Blessing Okagbare. Table tennis player Segun Toriola, the oldest member of the team, at age 37, became the first Nigerian athlete to compete in six Olympic games. Toriola's fellow sports player Olufunke Oshonaike, on the other hand, made her fifth Olympic appearance as the nation's oldest and most experienced female athlete. Freestyle wrestler Sinivie Boltic was Nigeria's first male flag bearer at the opening ceremony since 2000.

Nigeria, however, failed to win a single medal for the first time in Olympic history since 1988, after achieving poor athletic performance at these games. Triple jumper Tosin Oke, the women's sprint relay team (led by Blessing Okagbare), and weightlifter Felix Ekpo qualified successfully for the final rounds of their respective events, but missed out of the medal standings. Following the athletes' disappointing performance, President Goodluck Jonathan "called for a complete overhaul of Nigerian sports administration". Few weeks after the Olympics, the Nigerian athletes, however, were able to recapture the nation's sporting success at the Paralympics, as they had won a total of twelve medals, including six golds.[2]

theoctopus: The Entertainment Industry has also not been left unattended to by GEJ. His intervention Fund has also contributed its quota in making our movie industry move forward.

http://dailyindependentnig.com/2013/10/entertainment-funds-the-way-forward/

During the 2011 general elections, President Goodluck Jonathan, as part of his campaign strategies, promised to make available huge funds to entertainers to enable them fund their projects.

Three years down the road, President Jonathan is yet to fulfill this promise.

At a special dinner organised last year in celebration of Nollywood’s 20 years of existence, he announced an intervention fund of N3billion to the industry. Many Nollywood practitioners and watchers eulogized Jonathan for identifying with the industry despite the political undertones of the announcement.

Unfortunately, the intervention fund rather than united the industry has brought sharp disagreements among the different interests in Nollywood.

No sooner was this announcement made, that parallel groups were created for a single pupose of partaking in the sharing of Jonathan’s national cake to the entertainment industry. Peace is yet to return to the entertain house due to wrangling created by those determined to have a share of this largesse at all cost. The latest is the legal battle between the President of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) Andy Amenechi and his corresponding person at the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Zik Zulu Okafor. The two of them have jointly filed a N150 million libel suit against one Alex Eyengho, at the High Court of Lagos state of Nigeria. In the suit No LD/ADR/440/13, the lawyer to the Claimants, Anthony Emeka Odikpo, is praying the court to grant his clients N150 million as damages for libel. According to the petition filled by Odikpo, the defendant, Eyengho, on or about August 19, 2013, “maliciously and with intent to destroy the character of the claimants” published false words about the claimants in a petition to the Police Special Fraud Unit, Milverton Road, Ikoyi, where he categorically accused them of squandering the N50 million grant given to the industry by Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio. There are still lots of wrangling in the industry among different player all because of the intervention fund.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared Nollywood as the largest production of films in the world, with the United Nations Development Programme/ United Nations Conference on Trade and Development UNDP/UNCTAD 2010 Report valuing the industry in 2008 at N522 billion.

Bothered about the negative message these wranglings are communicating about Nollywood to the outside world, a lot of artists having been speaking on the way out of this impasse.

Gospel artist, Nikki Laoye said, “truth be told, it is very hard to manage or control any fund injected to the entertainment industry because there is no proper structure in place to check how it is being managed. Maybe a Ministry of Arts and Entertainment dedicated only to music, arts and movie industry will be a good idea to bring all the component of the industry together. Once this can be addressed, then I guess funds can be properly allotted and utilized correctly.”

A veteran actor and a member of the entertainment fund committee, Prince Jide Kosoko in an exclusive interview with Daily Independent agreed that the intervention fund alone cannot save the industry but concurred that the government of the day meant well for the industry by injecting N3billion into the industry as a grant.

“Change is a gradual process which can’t be achieved overnight. Personally as a veteran and as a member of the committee, I so much appreciate the fund though it may appear small but it is a starting point for us in the industry because this is the first time government will be showing interest in our industry. I will appeal to my colleagues; let us sheathe our swords because this will discourage government from assisting us further. Let us not forget that we were operating before the funds and this fund should not divide us rather it should unite us which will help to promote our industry,” Kosoko said.

Award-winning gospel music producer, Wole Oni, said the entertainment fund is a positive movement to enhance and to enrich the entertainment industry, to provide resources for those who have structures, “it is meant for those who have ideas that can revolutionise the industry to acquire tools, equipments and facilities. The fund will boost the standard and mindset of individuals to create a better platform in generating and creating employment.”

Madu Chikwendu, one of the top players in Nigerian’s film industry says, “There is a misconception about Nollywood. It is not actually one film industry but four. The part that the world sees is the English language industry, which has its production center in Lagos and is dominated by people from the south east of Nigeria. While the language used is English, the stories in these films reflect the ideology of the Igbo people of the region. The second industry is much, much older, and consists of the indigenous Yoruba language movies. This can be traced back to the Nigerian feature film industry of the 60’s and 70’s, up until the economic downturn meant that people could no longer afford to produce feature films anymore and started making videos instead. Then you have another industry in the North of the country, by the Hausa population. That is different again. It has a lot of Islamic influences, and is also influenced by the style of Bollywood films, with lots of song and dance. There are also pockets of smaller production, like in the south around the Niger Delta. These are also indigenous, mainly made in the Edo language. Each of these has its own associations for the industry professionals, so it is a bit polarized on ethnic lines, which is regrettable. There is a meeting point such as the Motion Picture Council of Nigeria, in which all the different areas are represented for the purpose of regulating the industry and lobbying the government.”

Before now, the industry experienced setbacks in the areas of funding, equipment, skills-set, quality and piracy. Andrew Rice of the New York Times once said: “Twenty years after emerging from the grungy street markets of Lagos, the $500 million Nigerian movie business churns out more than a thousand titles a year on average, and trails only Hollywood and Bollywood in terms of revenues. The films are hastily shot and then burned onto video CDs, a cheap alternative to DVDs. They are seldom seen in the developed world, but all over Africa. Consumers snap up the latest releases from video peddlers for a dollar or two”. There is a departure of sort from this as some filmmakers are now shooting films that are of international standard.

There is no doubt that monetary intervention alone can’t save Nigeria’s entertainment industry as the industry is contending with issues like piracy which has eaten deep into the fabrics of the industry.

success has a thousand fathers.

http://www.allsports.com.ng/threads/super-eagles-set-to-clash-with-nff-over-match-bonus-allowance.10076/

Nigeria's quest to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, could be threatened as the Super Eagles and the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) are not on the same page, with regards to match bonuses.

It is understood that the Super Eagles are not happy with the bonus cut, implemented by the NFF after the 2013 African Nations Cup,when the football body complained about a paucity of funds.

The Super Eagles were previously given $10,000 for each win,but the NFF said that they can only pay $5,000 for each victory, which the Super Eagles are disgruntled about.

Under the new rule, the Super Eagles will get $2,500 for any draw they secure, but this is not going down well with the players, who are believed to have voiced their frustrations about the development.

In March, there were reports that some Senior Super Eagles players, threatened to boycott the World Cup qualifiers against Kenya in Calabar, first for the non-complete payment of their bonuses for winning the Nations Cup,and secondly for the slashing of their bonuses.

Are the Super Eagles right, to complain about match-bonus,or should they be more concerned about playing football, rather than money?

try again
