Igiebor injured as Eagles bus stoned

Posted: 14 October 2013

Midfielder Nosa Igiebor suffered a cut on his right palm as the Nigeria team bus was attacked by irate Ethiopia fans after Sunday's 2-1 win by Nigeria.

The Nigeria bus was delayed from leaving the stadium, and when they eventually did, the waiting fans hurled missiles at the bus, shattering the rear window.

The Betis midfielder was hit on the hand by a big stone, giving him a big slash with serious bleeding which needed immediate attention of team doctor Ibrahim Gyaran.

NFF General Secretary Musa Amadu explained that the incident forced the players to miss the dinner organized in their honour by the Nigerian embassy in Ethiopia.

"Their bus was stoned, and a player was injured," Amadu told the gathering. "As a result, the players do not feel safe enough to come out from their hotel."

NFF Vice President, Chief Mike Umeh, said the matter has been reported to the FIFA Security team at the match venue and he hopes action will be taken.

The matter was also reported to the Ethiopian Police by Eagles Chief security Officer, ACP Baba Abubakar.

Nigeria set record with Ethiopia win

Posted: 14 October 2013

The Super Eagles have set an African record with their 2-1 win over Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on Sunday.

Courtesy of the win, Nigeria have set a new African record of going unbeaten in 27 World Cup qualifying matches.

The last time Nigeria tasted defeated in a World Cup qualifier was as far back as 2004, when they lost to Angola in Luanda.

Since then, Nigeria have won eighteen and drawn nine of their last 27 World Cup qualifying games, setting an African record, that is also the seventh best ever run in the World.

Nigeria should report it to FIFA, reporting it to CAF is just a waist of time.

Beware CAF will be prepared to throw Nigeria out if we do the same.

In this era of football age , some countries are still uncivilized to know that a defeat is not the end of the world and what even makes the Ethiopians think that the table cannot turn around and be in their favor when they come to Nigeria for the second leg of the Fifa WCQ match ...Their football federation needs to be penalized for this silly act in my own opinion..
