Lol, Americans have been spying technologically advanced Germany et al... What makes you think they need a decoy TV station to spy us. They've been having a field day spying us from time, bro.
To spy successfully you need different Legitimate fronts. How did America get Bin Laden They used an Immunization programme. Were they not already spying in Pakistan before theystarted the Immunization programme?
The lesson there is things are not alway what they seem so we must be vigilant.
Your remarks may seem smart to you but they are naive and childish. Whether it be TV, Oil Company engineer, Clergymen, anything American is SUSPECT. It is harder for them in Nigeria because we are black and so they must either use black people(They like to hide expertise from them) or put white people on ground. Technology has its limits. To put white people on ground they need to create some legitimate front like NGO or World Bank or TV etc

Great News

Tis is the kind of investment we actually need for the Nigerian economy....not SHOPRITE
WHY?

-Bloomberg will make revenue from Adverts by big companies with African interests (when last did u see a shell advert?) this hopefully pulls foreign exchange into Nigeria (that is if they dont get customers to pay electronically into accounts in other countries)

-Shoprite on the other hand, imports goods from abroad to sell to the Nigerian public at a cheaper price. This is great for individual shoppers, but disastrous for our economy in the medium to long term

My thoughts exactly. I mean, in as much as he sometimes makes some intelligent contributions to some threads along with evidence to backup whatever arguments he is making, the constant insults take away greatly from his posts and actually makes him come across as a very angry and rude fella. Some Nairalanders need to learn to disagree with others respectfully without being verbally abusive. We are all adults after all and just because this is a faceless forum does not mean we should be constantly abusive thereby reinforcing the stereotype that other nationalities have about Nigerians being a very aggressive and rude people. Everyone cannot have the same opinion because we are all unique individuals and not robots that should always see things the same way. We can all agree to disagree.

Spying in Nigeria is harder?? Come on... Like America doesn't have blacks?? What about Nigerian Americans that are ready to spill any info for few thousand extra bucks a month? The fact is their Intel network is well-established here already. Bloomberg will only be naturally obliged to report any observations made to Intel authorities.

Eze Promoe: A good development for Nigeria.
Bloomberg will set the pace for other International TV stations, because it seem like all these TV stations have chosen South Africa as their media hub in Africa.
E.g CNN, Vox, MTV, TRACE, Telemundo etc.
It's high time they came to recognize the fact that Nigeria is more African than than the pseudo-white Mzansi populace.
besides, Nigeria is the entertainment capital of Africa and we have the population.
only, a visionary company will locate its company here

so, its hard to spy in Nigeria where almost everyone is corrupt? where most trusted presidential aid leaks vital information to press? where education is going to toilet? where a boy will throw grenade to church for 500naira? where survival of the fittest is at its peak and patriotism is almost dead and and burried? u don't needs Blomberg to spy or Nigeria. Nigerians would spy on Nigeria for few extra cash.

You are damn wright, not only from Nigeria, From Kenya and also from SA. Read carefully, they say they will also launch in KENYA and SA, which means what they are doing they will also do it in Kenya and SA

This is what happens when they foolishly allow the ignorant lapdog to post.
Listen, you sycophantic ignoramus. There is a difference between switching to a digital platform and. Clear signals. You can still transmit Abysmal production values digitally.
Even in the UK where the digital switchover has been completed, there are still many channels broadcast in SD. Of course even that SD is of far higher quality than what we get from NTA.

So my dear ignoramus, digital crossover has nothing to do with NTA's piss - poor service. They can certainly go improve their output right now without waiting for the switchover which will not happen anytime soon.

Please stick to praising your masters and don't dabble into things you know nothing of, lapdog.
Well, we shall all see when the switch over happens in 2015 as scheduled. Predictably, a st.upid, worthless illiterate like you will be nowhere to be seen (hiding in shame) when the radical transformation occurs. And SD (standard definition) services in the UK are also digitised, as analogue has been totally phased out there. So it is senseless comparing the UK's SD digital service with NTA's analogue transmission, Mr Dumb and dumber.

For those with working brains, see the benefits of digital broadcasting below.

Please try and reason like an adult. Wishful thinking is the stuff of children.
Has Bloomberg registered with CAC in Abuja or will they operate as an offshore entity.
Any adult hearing this news will seek more information before passing judgment.
Is there an example of any other country in the world apart from the USA that has benefitted from Bloomberg TV I would like to know

You fool nobody. You're not known for your brainpower, and you try to mask your lack of intelligence by showering insults on your betters. people who have been on Nairaland for years know your antecedents (well before you became a paid lapdog of the Government in power).

Everyone knows the benefits of going digital, you cannot hold a candle to me when it comes to tech matters. Even without the general switchover, the FEC has sat idly by while opportunities to rejuvenate the NTA have gone begging. Case in point is the N8bn earmarked for the NTA upgrades for the FIFA U-17 world cup...no visible benefits of that move so far.

Did you watch the nauseatingly poor coverage of the FG reception of the Super Eagles after the Nations Cup win? Terrible audio, terrible video.

You should not be so keen to indict your paymasters this way. Public sensitization started in the UK SIX YEARS before the final switchover. Yet here you are, telling us in Q4 2013 that the switchover is planned in Q2 2015. Where is the public enlightenment campaign? Where is the PSA telling people to purchase Televisions with the receivers built in? Or telling consumers to purchase HDTVs? Or telling them of the projected expenditure required to purchase the 'subsidized set top boxes'?

Sycophantic lapdog. Do not presume to insult your betters again on Nairaland

Kia.! See reasioning . God will help. So Na NOU/Minister of Finance job function to overhaul NTA nationwide? MUMU!!!. You should look for the likes of stella Odua, with vision and purpose, to be in the top of NTA so that what was done at our airports could be replicated in that junk house called NTA nationwide. God bless Nigeria
i dunno what's wrong with the President. Labaran Maku is busy collecting kick backs from the incompetent and clueless acting DG Musa Maiyaki. That man has no a business managing an organisation like nta. He has no idea of what a modern television house should be like. But like every government organisation looting and corrupt enrichment is the order of the day at the expense of excellence. I wah for this country.

Well, suspecting Bloomberg TV of Espionage intentions is paranoid at best... Not that we are in an ideological war with the USA a la "cold war".. it's an open secret that the CIA has well-established Intel networks World-wide. if we're to prevent (or rather, stop the obviously on-going) espionage in the country, scrutinising Bloomberg won't yield zilch.

Afam4eva: I think this is a welcome development. Anything to get our local TV stations cracking and leaving their medieval ways of running TV.
If anything would motivate them, DSTV would have done that a long time ago! What is killing Nigerian stuffs is 'sticking to the status quo'. We hate change! If Nigerian channels will improve, I can bet it with you that it won't be from these old channels....rather, a new crop of Nigerian channels will spring up. That's just how it is in Nigeria!

wrong! The shoprite wey me dey enter contain 90% Nigerian products. You are not even making sense sef. approximately 60% or more of what Shoprite sells are perishables. So who imports Perishables? Na loss e wan cause for himself! Except you are mistaking a whole mall to be Shoprite grin.....

Even at that, most other shops at the mall (from boutiques to restaurants) sell Nigerian products. Infact, most of them are Nigerian owned establishments.

Malls in Nigeria has helped Nigerian economy than you can imagine. Apart from Job creation;

Shoprite - they always strike deals with local farmers for their produce (Thereby providing profitable markets for these farmers), they strike deals with other Nigerian consumer goods companies as well for their products.
Boutiques - this has helped the Nigerian fashion industry....that's a fact!
Cinemas - This has also helped Nollywood a lot! A lot! A lot!

and others like that!

But most Nigerians don't see beyond their noses!
because a sector is behind, doesn't mean others should be redundant as well;
-because Science and Tech isn't where it is suppose to be doesn't mean Entertainment shows (Game shows, Reality TV) etc should join in the backwardness.
-because TV in Nigeria is not 'good enough' doesn't mean commerce should stop working.

They should all be working! Don't condemn one to promote the other. Rather, focus on the one you are promoting or worried about and that's it!
Re: Okonjo-Iweala Backs Bloomberg TV Opening In Nigeria by esere826: 11:17am On Oct 31, 2013
Well, its been some time since i went to Shoprite (the shop)
so there could possibly have been some quick changes I am unaware of
and i cld be dead wrong

However, i am thinking and talking economics in practice not theory
No doubt Shoprite has the 'potential' to revolutionarize the retail supply chain
but we must first remember that businesses are fundamentall set up to maximize profit

By their design, thay have no loyalty to any nation whatsoever (except in rare cases where the management team are engineered for that)
Like I said earlier, there is no doubt that Shoprite is good for consumers,
same as opening up our borders to the importation of everything

I am thinking more about our economy

I would be surprised if Nigerians manufacture a lot of goods cheaper that some other countries like china
........think economy of scales and economy of learning

I would however expect that some types of groceries will be cheaper to source from the Nigerian market

I will be very happy if the neccesary governmental agencies have put in place regulatory measures (such as inport duty) to make importing unattractive to Shoprite (and enforce them)
if this is not the case, then believe me, you are swimming in waters you have little knowledge of

.....ever wondered (or at least hypothetized) why such a 'successful'mall was not set up by Nigerians?
...ok, i gues the usual refrain would be something inthe line of Nigerians being incapable...... think again.....carefully
