barcanista: If Mikel/Moses were so exceptional in AFCON why did Petriopa pip them to the MVP award?Mikel and Pitroipia were shortlisted for the award but Pitroipia had an edge cause he had more goals.I will be happy to see any Nigerian player win the award. |

striker9: Mikel and Pitroipia were shortlisted for the award but Pitroipia had an edge cause he had more goals.I will be happy to see any Nigerian player win the award. Its not about a Nigerian Player winning, its about a "DESERVING" African Player winning the Award. I repeat if Mikel was so exceptional WHY did he not win the AFCON MVP? If African Best is based on AFCON Trophy, then one of Zambia players would have won it last year. In fact Egypt that won AFCON in 2006, 2008 and 2010 Editions didn't produce AFRICAN best during those years. Neither Yaya Nor Mikel deserve this edition of the award. CAF should crown Jonathan Petriopa!!!! As for WORLD BEST:::: HAIL 5 TIMES KING MESSI::::: ***God Save The King*** |

barcanista: Its not about a Nigerian Player winning, its about a "DESERVING" African Player winning the Award. If Pitroipa was playing for a top club and has won trophies with the club, then he deserves it.None of the Zambian players then was playing for a top club, cause its all counts.Eto edged out Okocha in 2004 cause he was playing for a better club. |

omar22:Mikel was a bench warmer under AVB,and slightly under Benitez until he proved himself. The issue of bench warming is from the coach,if he doesn't likes your pattern of play.David Luiz and Mata are now bench warmers in Chelsea, cause mourihno prefers other players in there role.Song is currently a bench warmer cause he can never bench Busket, and he will forever remain a second fiddle unless he go on loan or go to another club.Would you have called Mikel a bench warmer under Mourihno 06/07 Hiddink,Ancelloti and Di matteo?mind you,Mikel the bench warmer made Essien go on loan, was also instrumental in Chelsea Champions league and FA victory 2011/2012.Won Europa league the following season and buttress it with AFCON trophy. |

Chelsea sent Essien on loan because they Bought the Spanish kid and wanted to give him playing time. 06/07 Mikel was a bench warmer because Claude Makalele was still at the club but when Essien was pushed back into the defence when JT got injured, he was more likely get red card each time he played 07/08 Mikel was a Bench warmer because Claude Makalele was still at the club! 08/09 Mikel was a Bench warmer until when Essien got injured but Hiddink used Mikel tactically 09/10 Mikel became regular after Essien ruptured his knee in Libya when playing for Ghana and Mikel had a long run playing alongside Ballack or Deco 10/11 Mikel played actually almost the whole season, until they brought in Ramires 11/12 Mikel played most games alongside Ramires and Mireles Chelsea won the Champions League due to Didier Drogba, the FA Cup due to Juan Mata and Ramires who destroyed Liverpool 12/13 Mikel found himself on the bench after series of high level mistakes most especially against Juve that got some fans threatening him with death threat on twitter. And Rafa felt Luiz could play alongside Lampard or Ramires and under Jose he is in the B team until when Van Ginkel got injured and still a bench warmer. I cant remember how many games Mikel played in the Europa Cup but very few, Victor Moses single handed destroyed Rubin Kazan in the semi-final and Mikel didnt play in the final. |

omar22: You've said it all. Mikel is a backup player. The type a big club needs to be able to meet up in all competitions when first choice players are injured or suspended. Truly the various managers over the years have been able to find the right balance between him starting and him coming from the bench. Thus he is happy as a backup player in the team. This is something Arsenal lacks in some positions in her team. |

omar22:The match against Juve was under Di matteo both home and away. The juve mistake wasn't under Benitez and its was so obvious Benitez preferred Romeu a spanish player in the dm.Romeu also made a mistake and Mikel won back the role haven played well against Man United when Chelsea came from 2 nil to level the scores.Moses had a great game for Chelsea winning the Europa league but he could have stayed back at Chelsea to prove how good he is,rather than going on loan.Players like Cesar,Mata,Luiz and Mikel are trying to fight back for there role.Mikel has always been fighting for first team, which means he has always tried to face challenges and critics.Moses couldn't do this, its obvious he won't be spending a long time at Chelsea. |
