Come to think of it, u might be d one who is wrong. He is nt yet a lawyer,and that expression is used among lawyers, referring to each other as learned. Since d guy is nt yet a lawyer, bt is on course, then we might rightly call him a 'learning friend '.

I guess he's trying to write " alma mater". Unilorin has been operating a no union academic staff policy since 2001 (if nothing has changed since then)

I graduated from the school too and only 6 got First-class. I bet you, there were more than 41 First-class materials then.
And I doubt you can graduate with third-class honours in my department, writing "section" instead of "session". Though not in english department, the lecturers frown at such petty errors.

He's actually correct. Since he hasn't been called to the Bar, he cannot be referred to as a "Learned friend'. Lawyers call Law students "learning colleague" and Law students also call themselves "Learning colleague". I hope it's clear to you now!

I think the report is a bit misleading. There have been 1st class students from the Common law department. Kazeem only happens to be the first from the combined 'common and islamic' law department.
