Yusuf Al-Qaradawi condemns the attack on Al-Azra Church on October 20 in Giza province of Egypt, killing 4 people.

Dr. Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, chair of International Union for Muslim Scholars, on Tuesday condemned the attack on Al-Azra Church on October 20 in Giza province of Egypt which killed 4 people and wounded 18.

Releasing a statement, Qaradawi condemned the attacks on religious places, and warned that these kinds of attacks might spoil the social structure.

Stating that the bloodshed of Christians living in a Muslim country was “haram” (forbidden) in Islamic teaching, Qaradawi said that Islam absolutely rejected such attacks.

Noting that the security forces, who wanted to provoke sectarian sensitivity in the country, were responsible for the attack, Qaradawi said that Muslim Brotherhood had nothing to do with these kind of attacks. Qaradawi added that Brotherhood had always got along with Coptic Christians and never attacked on them, their properties or their worship places.

Touching on the detention of university students by security forces, Qaradawi condemned the detentions and said that these detentions would increase the resistance of the students and encourage them to fight against the coup.

Egyptian security forces detained 41 students in al-Azhar University on October 20.
