85% of the FORTUNE 500 companies use SAP, the top 10 companies in the world use SAP ERP systems, SAP is the only ERP software provider that caters to the SMBs with their all-in-one and Business One suites, SAP has provided streamlined solutions to companies with the IS range. Question - Where do you think everyone else is going?? You dont need quantum or space science to tell that this is the direction of the future! All the best guys!

hmmmn sappiel, im using your info seriously, but you know its not easy to find around here in Nigeria comapanies that are on SAP. those on it are the big time ones and breaking in there is just through God, i presently work with a growing Oil ad Gas firm like you said, the pay is low, but here we do not yet have the capacity to get on SAP. As a fact Im ready to work that hard for get throught with this SAP. God willing, i will be relocating to US before year end but i like to migrate there with my SAP idea and experience to make things easier for me.

Im sure you know the Nigerian situation now, so one would just keep trying.

Im sure you wouldnt mind giving me your e-mail so i could keep up sometimes. kai, you are far too kind!

Hi all,
I joined UAC last year as an accountant. Before that, I was working for my dad who happened to be a top official of PWC before he decided to start his own practice. For the last 2 years or so, I've been unhappy because now I have realised that i simply hate working as an accountant. Now I have gotten to the wall, I simply cannot push any further. Its like i have exhausted all my energy. My dad really wants me to complete my ICAN but honestly,there is no motivation any longer for me to study. I just want to do what I love doing.

I was discouraged from studying computer science because I was told that computer science graduates only work in cybercafes (this was around 1996). Now I am 23 years old. I have thought about my life and so have decided to resign from my job and go back to school (full time and not necessarily in any public or private institution i.e. self study) especially now that i know that computer science graduates do not work in cybercafes. Already, I have registered at APTECH for the Advanced Diploma in Software Engineering program though i've found that its not as qualitative as i expected.

My love is programming. I am on self study for Java (very challenging because work takes all my time including public holidays). I have resolved to take the SCJA exam by October this year and I am making slow progress. By the time I resign, i'll be a guru(i have given my one month notice.Nobody in my house knows cos if they do, they'll eat me up so they'll just have to wait till like 1 week after i have resigned). I'm also getting ready for A+. CCNA is out of it for me cos Networking is just too boring for me.

Anyway, last night I was thinking of a career path to follow then I stumbled on this thread. I read from page one to the end (I started around 11.30am and went to sleep around 4am). The information here is amazing. You guys have really inspired me. I know where I'm going to with my life now.I've taken the right steps though i know the consequences won't be nice initially. Thanks again guys(everybody).

I'm still looking for where to download the IDES ECC. I'm scared of using my visa debit on that site and i'm not even sure that they will accept it.

Once again, thanks again guys, and thank you God, you really direct my steps aright!!

Re: About Sap? by tundebabzy: 7:31pm On Mar 27, 2010
kiwi dropped a link to one amaderforum.com. The site has a lot of SAP materials. It also should have the IDES ECC 6 but the download link is in a reserved area. Users are expected to donate to the site(1 euro) to be able to access it. Paypal does not accept Nigerian payments.

Sappiel,you know where i can download the ECC?

Guy, you need to hold your fire. I can give you a link to download it free of charge but you wont even be able to do anything with it.

You need to carefully plan and manage your time with SAP. It is not as easy as you think but its achievable.

Just keep your visa debit for now, read and understand SAP in detail, afterwards, you will be able to make informed decision.

@denzel
I know that when i download it,i won't be able to do anything with it but sooner or later, i will have to get the IDES. I'm gathering all the materials that i will need like WIndows 2003 Server, a bigger hard disk et al. Lets just call it 'inspirational materials', like starting the foundation of a house.

Please give me the link denzel. Believe me, it will help me a lot.

Lol mate, we have all been in your position before.It can be likened to anxiety before sexx. I 'm really not trying to discourage you but try and read/study the materials you currently have for like 1 month and if you still feel thesame,the links are always there.Most people are attracted to the SAP cos of the high pay rates but when they embark on the venture,they easily get discouraged by all they have to take in. You might need a top notch internet speed cos its about 150gb.

BTW, are you sure you're making the right decision by leaving your job now? cos the money might come in handy with the journey you want to embark upon.
Re: About Sap? by sappiel(f): 9:05pm On Mar 27, 2010
TUND i would have liked to agree with denzel, but i hate ppl trivialising impt issues like this by refering to sex. it cheapens the whole thing. anyway, i advice you to wait. dont buy anythg yet. read, study study for the time being.gather all the free stuff u can online and organise urself.
Re: About Sap? by tundebabzy: 10:01pm On Mar 27, 2010
@denzel
i guess you're kinda right.i'll just take things 1 step at a time.about leaving my job,I just have to. my salary is really really woeful(yes, as in unbelieveably poor).transport wipes off more than half of my salary every month.Infact i don't even have an income.A lot of times, say I collect my March salary on say 25th February, its finished on the same day. Na so life suppose be? Abeg let the job go, i'm not a slave. I guess this is the time to be my own boss.I just got a web design job for 70k. I hope i can get more of those often or else i sorry for myself.
thanks for the help

@sappiel
You're right. and thanks for the advice.

Latest SAP average rates in the UK, these are market, based on experience and lifecycle implementations, but they are a fair reflection of daly rates

If you are going for the MySAP ERP FI/CO certification, all you need to pass the exams is just the TFIN 50, TFIN 52 and TFIN 20 TFIN 22. Then, hands on practice on SAP IDES ECC 6.0

There are so many materials out there that you can get confused.
Re: About Sap? by tundebabzy: 11:57pm On Mar 29, 2010
@denzel
thanks because i was already getting confused.
Re: About Sap? by sappiel(f): 8:08am On Mar 30, 2010
tundebabzy you definitely are confused. im not sure you understand what the SAP module structure is all about. Lets start here. are you going technical or functional? if functional, what module are you interested in pursing? Im not sure you and a lot of others are aware that not all modules use the ECC6.0 IDES SERVER. So answer these and i will lead you further on what you need to do. secondly, dont let anyone decieve u, you can only get server access or have your own stand alone attached to you pc (with the right specs), you cannot download an SAP server.

Some recent posts in here makes me believe there is a huge rush for certifications, just hope there are no ''hidden money motivations'' we all know SAP probably pays the highest salaries in IT these days, I think having a rewarding career is more important then the money, seems this is a throwback to the early 90s SAP boom, i just get this feeling because i read so many threads, people with Physics background wanting to take up SAP HR whats the co-relation between physics and HR? or some with IT networking background suddenly wants to try their hands at FICO??

Just hope i am not mistaken but such people are setting themselves up for a huge fall even with an SAP certification, a popular SAP blog, they talk about certification amongst other things, whiles certification is nice to have, other important aspects like business process experts is probably an important skill and certification to achieve, end of the day your configuration skills will be geared towards giving your client the best possible solution for their business, skills like, order to cash, third party flow, inter-company billing, travel management solution, for example, if you implement an inter-company billing solution, you will have to involve SD or what is known as SCM, finance, logistics and controlling so when you post an inter-company sales document or inter-company purchase order for example, you will create entries in SD, MM, FI and even controlling ( cost centre or profit centre) if the company uses EDI to automatically post the AP document, then you will need EDI experts

The worst scenario will be ending up with a certification you can hardly use, there is no harm in performing a thorough research where your background fits the SAP landscape

Some recent posts in here makes me believe there is a huge rush for certifications, just hope there are no ''hidden money motivations'' we all know SAP probably pays the highest salaries in IT these days, I think having a rewarding career is more important than the money,again, experienced consultants that are used to earning over the region of 500 pounds a day or more, they will get used to such amounts, so there has to be a passion for the job in order to achieve and learn new processes everyday.Seems to be another wave of the early 90s SAP boom, i just get this feeling because i read so many threads, people with Physics background wanting to take up SAP HR where the co-relation between physics and HR? or some with IT networking background suddenly wants to try their hands at FICO??

@sappiel
Technical is my focus now and primary target( that would be BASIS module). I'm on java self study and I'm preparing for SCJA exam (Sun Certified Java Associate). SInce I have a degree in Economics and work experience as an accountant, my secondary target is FI (which is functional) but that will be very very much later.

Please help me. (i didn't even know that not all modules use IDES ECC6)
Re: About Sap? by sappiel(f): 3:53pm On Mar 30, 2010
@markos. My sentiments exactly!! its nice to hear someone else speaking my language. I cannot over-emphasize the fact that in as much as SAP is hot, people need to focus properly and take one step at a time to clinch this thing. I got certified in SD in 2008 with a distinction, but I am not better positioned than a fresher, the advantage is that I am properly rooted and grounded in the content and understand the entire process and its requirements, but i still need to balance it up with more hands-on experience. I must also explain that I chose SD because it is more my field, not because of the 'prospect' of income. I would advise people lean towards modules or areas that are more in line with their careers or areas of specialisation. It makes it more interesting for them, and there is more than enough space in SAP for everyone.
As far as training goes, you may either attend a training facility or self train (which I did). i mean just devote about 3 hours a day. Anything more than that will be information overload, believe me. Dont rush. If you get into an SAP consulting environment, you will have to spend 25 hours a day anyway!!!.
@winnie, BI, has a different server, i think it is the BI 7.1 or something like that, CRM has a different server, ABAP and BASIS, have some other stuff, so BEWARE of people scamming you into buying what u dont need.

For winnie and tund considering SAP BASIS, I have done a bit of research for you. click on http://sapdocs.info/sap/uncategorized/basis-5-days-training/ and you will be able to get free training materials. if you scroll down a bit on the page, you will see the download link. also there are other basis stuff on the site. Alltogether i think it is a great site (sapdocs.com), i use it very frequently, it covers everything sap.

ABAP to Netweaver

If you go to the site quoted above, you will get all the information you need.

of course, i'd love to take my time, i have read till page 8 or so , most info might have been outdated since the topic started in 2008, rather than take in uninformative stuff, just wondering if someone could just post a link where i could download
