N255m Scam: Panel Report Leakage Tears Reps Apart by ceo4eva: 5:40am On Nov 08, 2013
The leakage of the House of
Representatives report on the
purchase of N255m BMW bulletproof
cars to the media tore members of
the investigation panel apart on
Thursday.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority
bought the controversial cars
allegedly for the use of the Minister of
Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah.
She appeared before the panel to
deny that the cars were purchased for
her.
Some newspapers, including The
PUNCH, had scooped snippets of the
report on Wednesday ahead of the
report presentation before the House
on Thursday (yesterday).
Investigations showed that the
Chairman of the House Committee on
Aviation, which conducted the
investigation, Mrs. Nkiruka
Onyejeocha, was enraged that the
media had foreknowledge of the
content of the report.
Some key members of the committee
also expressed disgust over the
development, saying that it exposed
the “lack of trust” among the
members.
“The chairman has been raking all
day; she has been restless.
“She has asked almost all members
of the committee how the media got
what they reported today (Thursday).
“The matter caused disquiet among
the members; they are seriously
suspecting one another.
“More so, she insists that the media
published a distorted version”, a
source close to the committee,
confided in The PUNCH on Thursday.
The PUNCH learnt that some
members, who suspected that the
final report might be doctored, had
volunteered pieces of information to
the media.
Efforts to get the report proved
abortive on Thursday, as Onyejeocha
guarded it jealously till she laid the
document.
She also declined to comment on the
content of the recommendation as
she consistently expressed bitterness
over the snippets.
When The PUNCH traced her to her
office after laying the report,
Onyejeocha was further enraged.
She claimed to have printed only one
copy, which was submitted to the
House on Thursday.
She shouted, “Up till this morning, we
were still writing this report; I don’t
know where you newspaper people
got what you reported from.”
“It is just that this investigation is
sensitive; I would have disowned the
entire report and call for a repeat of
the investigation.”

Let's forget about all these media rants. Soon this matter will be swept under the carpet and the news goes back to Governor Amaechi and other G7 Governors. It seems corruption is part of the transformation agenda of Mr President. Corruption still remains the hallmark of this administration!

Crazy system.

She is already giving hints that the report might be doctored to read something else from its original copy.

How can the media go and concort their own version of the report if they didn't have an idea if what the reps have on their own side?

The corrupt will surely go scot free in this Nation as long as you are ready to share some of your filthy lucre with those who are standing in your way.

Wish the reps well in the next coming 48hrs cos we all know how easy and quick people in the house deny their own words and turn against each other.

This is a face saving technic by Punch. The fact remains that where did Punch and other Yoruba papers who are on the 'Oduah must go mission' get their so called panel report when actually the report was not ready till yesterday morning? I will continue to say it; the kind of reportage and lies being propagated by the Sw media and her children of anger just to achieve their sectional and bigoted view, will back fire as it can only lead to more division along ethnic lines

'Pieces of information, doctored and distorted' is what Punch and allied news media has been feeding the public since this saga began. That's how Punch Newspaper has been able to keep the malicious campaign going - by lying to the public and misleading them with distortion of issues. Now we know better.

Are you an literate? Can't you see that it is the Chairman of the Committee who investigated the matter that made the claim? Guy, read the post and make your inference rather than this antics of running around like clueless and mindless clown.

Does anyone even need to see the HOR committee report to know she will be indicted. Mere listening to her presentation in the house was enough to indict her. In her bid to tell one lie after the other, she kept exposing herself.

In fact, she indicted herself with the nonsense "approved do the needful". What the hell is that? Only the riff-raffs hired by Omokri will defend such a criminal.

Onyeoshi azuruazu.

What is it with some newspaper these days. Who do we believe now.

A committee is yet to present their report but is already in the public domain. Nawa ooo

How do we know punch did not publish a distorted report. The way punch is interested in this case u would think their life depends on it. Wither u punch.Wither u.

It is clear there are some vested interest in this saga. Each trying soo hard to outwit each other. That is the more reason everything , both punch report and all the accusations should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Punch has lost all credibility now. It has become a tool for politicians and canals. It is now junk newspaper, and promoter of hate campaign. what a calamity to befall such hitherto good news paper.
