Wednesday, July 16, 2008

The Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU) in Lagos on Tuesday said it was investigating three suspected fraudsters over fraudulent receipt of MTN call credit, worth N11 million. Briefing newsmen in his office at Adewusi House, Ikoyi Lagos, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the SFU, Mr Yinka Balogun, identified the suspects as [size=14pt]Tolulope Olanite, Olaniyi Ajayeoba and Uche Ukachukwu.

He stated that the suspects had allegedly used 10 MTN numbers fraudulently thereby defrauding the communication company. Balogun said that the cover of the suspects criminal activities was blown off on July 4, 2008 as one Wasiu Ibrahim, a staff of MTN Nigeria, of 6th floor Golden Plaza, Falomo, Lagos officially complained to him about the fraudulent activities of the three suspects.

He said that in the course of investigating the case, it was discovered that one Nkiruka Ezeukwu, a contract staffer of the company, was a female friend to one of the suspects, Ukachukwu.

According to Balogun, the latter was as at that period a subscriber with MTN No. 08037176336 who was said to have received credit facility worth N100, 000 from the first suspect, Olanite, with MTN No. 07039745322.

``Upon the arrest and subsequent interrogation of Olanite, he made useful statement by admitting and confessing to the crime that he was the one that gave three passwords to one of his friends still working with MTN, Ajayeoba also in our custody,’’ he said.

Balogun, however, noted that the said Ajayeoba allegedly made use of the three passwords but that only one of them was connected.

``[b]Thereafter Ajayeoba advised Olanite to buy 10 SIM cards and text the numbers to him in the office which he did and Ajayeoba now sent N1 million worth of MTN credit cards to each of the 10 SIM cards,’’ the CP said.

And how much has MTN defrauded Nigerians? He who kills by the sword must surely die by the sword. MTN hasn't seen anything yet.
