Why should you say you are single when you are in a relationship?

You may not be married, but that does not mean you are single.

How can a woman who is not married, but has been cohabitating with a man who is the father of her four children still claim to be single?
Oh, she is the celebrated single mom with the single dad of her kids?

You can only claim to be single if you are not attached or engaged to any man or woman.

It would be misleading to claim to be single when you have a regular mate in your life.

Try dating a single man who has a girfriend and see how she would react!
I have seen a jealous girlfriend beat up another girl who wanted to snatch her man.
She almost stripped the boyfriend snatcher naked on the street!

It would be better and safer to use the term "unmarried" or "yet to marry" and not claiming to be single.

"You are not married and you are not still single, then what is your status?"

Oh smart one im sure you'll come up with a solution to that. Im in a relationship right now I ain't married to the guy, we don't live together, I guess that makes me a single lady. Over here if a couple are cohabitin they are referred to as common law wife/husband.

In Igbo and Yoruba culture, we do not regard unmarried lovers as single.

We call girfriends as "wives" of their boyfriends.
