Happy new year people. Great work Sienna, I am seriously taking notes as I am almost set to restart my D90 restoration and I am starting from scratch. The car looks great, good job!

Not much achieved today, with rain hampering things.

As many may remember, I got rid of the aerial on the offside fender. I got my Black & Decker out, ready to drill the cabin roof at the rear, to mount a 2013 Toyota Prius stubby aerial.

Then I realised my truck won't require an aerial, despite having radio reception.

Does anyone know why? wink

Compatible with T-IV. I have no idea if T-VI synthetic blend is compatible.

Hmmmm...*scratches head.....
Might have something to do with the dashboard/radio you're putting in. Does the 'donor' lexus have an embedded antenna?

The Lexus LS400 certainly has a screen embedded antenna, but the Lexus screen is not compatible with the Toyota.

No antenna, but keep guessing! cheesy

Maybe you would use the all metal tonneau as a receptor ala dish.... I can bet that metal could pick transmission from the moon...

well, Shagati and cne010 are as close as it gets.

No radio.

I am installing a 7" tablet, either iOS or Android. It will be a cellular version, so will have it's own SIM card with data enabled. These days tablets will do just about anything a car audio unit will do - FM radio, Media Player, TV, Internet, Navigation etc, depending on what other Apps you install, a tablet will surpass an audio unit.

This will run through a 4-channel amplifier, with a dedicated subwoofer output.

in my honda i got a double din android radio with built in wifi and also can work with a dongle, i use my phone as hotspot if there is no internet around, i didnt like the idea of fiddling with tablet to fit the dash

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkzUIF4qF7k

the only disappointment i got from the radio was that my headrest screen only get signal when am playing the dvd, if i play from youtube and just being on the internet, the display is not sent to my headrest monitors therefore people at back wont be able to watch videos from you etc

for the subwoofer i put those one that can fit under the seat but mine is at the back where the spare wheel should be and it covered by the honda table and it spreads the bass along the car's floor

I understand where you're coming from, Zim.

Audio units, even Android-based ones have built-in limitations. I have opted to use a tablet, as I sm doing a full install, all hard-wired like it left the factory that way. The tablet will look like part of the dash, like it was meant to be there. No tablet brackets bolted to the screen.

I have just come off the phone to the hydraulic shop I'm going with for my steel tonneau operation.

Yesterday, I emailed them drawings, showing the lid, mounting base and the area the pump will fit to. I also gave dimensions and weight. I'm going with a 45 degree opening angle.

I have also opted for a double action cylinder ram and pump. The pump has a hydraulic lock, which means once the ram is fully retracted, it can't be extended without the pump being operated. So the tonneau will NOT require a lock. A single action ram will only lower the tonneau under gravity, and WILL require a latch.

At last, my truck is water tight.

Autoglass turned up today, to install a replacement windshield. They did mess up though - the technician arrived at 14:43, despite the booking being between 09:00 and 14:00.

This meant I was unable to get my front bumper brackets extended to accommodate the 2" body lift. A job for tomorrow.

I did get time to install my crystal LED tails though, I think they look pretty good.

There was a slight hitch - the tech turned up with a plain screen - no tint, or top band. And it was an aftermarket screen, "Pilkington" despite my insistence at the time of booking it MUST be a genuine Toyota item.

A phone call and 45 minutes later, another screen turned up in a non-Autoglass van. After I confirmed it was the correct one - tinted, top-banded and genuine Toyota, it was installed.

I'm happy with the work.
