The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has blamed the recent nationwide power rationing on vandalism of the gas pipeline supplying gas to the Okpai Power Plant in Delta State.

This was contained in a statement by the TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Seun Olagunju, yesterday in Abuja.

She said there had been about 450MW reduction in electricity generation since the vandalism last Saturday and that this would last till November 26 when repair work on the damaged part would be completed.

The firm said relevant stakeholders were currently working on the repair of the vandalised plant that had been shut down.

“The repair work is expected to be completed within three days and Okpai Power Plant will expectedly resume generation on November 26,” it said.

The TCN appealed to electricity consumers nationwide to bear with the temporary inconvenience, pleading with them to help government in protecting TCN installations.

“TCN regrets the inconveniences to the Federal Government and our highly esteemed electricity consumers nationwide.

“We advise members of the public to work with the government in protecting installations and facilities meant for our socio-economic development,” it said.

Unlike in other countries where citizens contribute their quota to national developement, here in Nigeria, all some disgruntled citizens do is contribute to national dis-development.

The NSCDC or whatever they'r called, that is meant to protect national assets like gas pipelines, is clearly not doing enough. I think the head of that organisation should be changed.

It has become a habit for Jonathan and his gang, to always find someone to blame for their incompetence and failures. Are they not paying one militant and his boys Billions for Pipeline Protection?

Jonathan should provide light and stop sending his boys to fill our ears with nonsense.

I don't know why you are making excusses for Jonanthan's inability to protect the pipelines suppling gas to the nation's power generators. Its very lame.

And BTW, if you must abuse me to make your point - please drop those grammatical blunders.

No I don't get it! Why should there be pipeline vandalism when jonathan pays billions of naira to militants to protect them? Who are those sabotaging their efforts if not the militants themselves? If they do what they are being paid for,no one will vandalize gas pipelines.
Re: Threat To Make Nigeria Ungovernable: Yet Another Vandalism Of Gas Pipeline by Nobody: 3:14pm On Nov 25, 2013
I have seen all the comments made by APC e-warriors, who are mostly under the pains of GUILTY-conscience syndrome. Well, 2015 elections will come and go, and hopefully, thereafter, Tinubu and Buhari will stop sponsoring people to decimate gas pipelines. But pipelines vandalism or not, Tinubu and Buhari shall taste defeat again, and again.
