No you can't specialise in neurosurgery, cardiology etc, with BDS(Bachelor of dental surgery). You are kind of restricted to specialties in dentisitry, like maxiliofacial surgery. I don't know the process involved in acquiring MBBS after BDS, but my advice is"don't got for Dentistry if you don't have passion for it", mind, you can still make it to medical school it all depends on your willingness.
NB: there is no shortcut to any place worth going.#peace.

You wrote well CharleyMed.
If what you really want is MBBS, then go for MBBS. Don't settle for an alternative, you will never feel fulfilled.

To add to what CharleyMed wrote, you can't go for specialities like Cardio or Neuro with BDS. If you are really interested in BDs surgery, you can become a craniofacial surgeon, maxillofacial, also head and neck oncology, facial plastic surgery.. E.t.c.
You are only restricted to the Head and Neck region. So if the BDS surgical specialities above won't satisfy you, then I think you really should go for MBBS.

Concerning the 18 months thingy, it is actually 2 years(24 months), you will have to do some rotations from part 5 and part 6 again. Meaning if you follow that path, you will get your MBBS degree in 8 years I.e 6 yrs of BDS + 2 yrs of conversion. Mind you, your BDS degree will be withdrawn from you and you will only have the MBBS degree.

So you have to be sure of the path you really want to tow and the one that would suit you best and make you happy.

Best of luck bro! smiley

@OP, concerning your choice between MBBS and Pharmacy, I think you should choose based on your strength.

If you aren't chemistry inclined or you don't love chemistry, DO NOT GO FOR PHARMACY! I have seen many students drop from the pharmacy programme all because they wanted medicine and didn't get it then opted for pharmacy thinking it would be easier.
I for one cannot study Pharmacy because I am not chemistry inclined.

And I have also seen people that can't cope in Med school drop-out too cos it's not just their thing.

So OP, you have to be sure of where your strength lies, if you go for something you are really good at then there is a high chance that you will be successful at it.

lemme try nd clear dz. Pharm.D is a first degree curriculum Program just as B.Pharm is. Pharm.D program contains certain courses dt z required in certain employment criteria. In some schools in Nigeria, its a 5yrs incorporated course,Uniuyo z gearing toward Pharm.D wif a 6yrs Outline. Its serves as introductory to Masters, buh wifout Specialty! It's worthy to Note dt Pharm isn't a short cut to a Master degree in any Pharmaceutical Fields. U'll still need Masters in ur chosen fields. Certain Employers Specify Pharm.D holders because of what d want u to do.

B.Pharm...my degree!dz z Conventional Degree u have round. Wif dy normal curriculum. As far as I knw d salary grade z d same except for certain firm dt specifies. Note a Pharm Doctor z higher a Degree dan B.Pharm.

Lol. I don't think modoona has a strong pharmacy programe, like i said some schools will soon join so your OAU might be among. I don't subscribe to that best "best school in Africa" 'best school in Nigeria" rants, that is why i won't bite you. I beleive that schools are just there to bring out the best in you, your success in life is not proportional to the school you attend, take Dr Ben carson as a case of study, he attended michigan state uni but better than Havard professors. So which ever school you are, just try and work on your inbuilt potential cos that is what really matters.
NB:Most of our schools here are just local champions, so we need to improve to become the best in the world, if we must be the best in anything.
