The traditional institution in Nigeria has continued to play an important role for the continued existence of the country as a united nation, Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State has said.

He made the assertion in the ancient town of Oyo on Saturday on the occasion of his formal installation as the Obasayero of Oyo Empire by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who doubles as the Permanent Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

The four wives of the governor, Aisha, Mariya, Abiodun and Nafisa, were similarly conferred with the chieftaincy titles of Yeyeloyin Obasayero, Yeyeniwura Obasayero, Yeye Obasayero and Yeyedunni Obasayero of Oyo Empire, respectively.
The ceremony was graced by the crème de la crème of the society from all parts of the country.

Governor Yuguda, who described the Alaafin of Oyo as “a great bridge builder”, emphasized the need for Nigerians to continue to live in peace with one another, irrespective of the part of the country they come from.

“As a government, we are of the view that Nigeria must continue to survive as a united, sovereign, indivisible nation living in peace and economic prosperity.

“As a practical demonstration of this stand, our government has abolished contract appointment for Nigerians from other states. All Nigerians, irrespective of their state of origin, are now given permanent and pensionable appointment in Bauchi State.
“Furthermore, we have offered political appointments, ranging from personal assistants to advisers to 50 Nigerians from other states across in the country,” he said.

In his speech, the Alaafin of Oyo stated that the event was a confirmation of “our kindred spirit and the age-old diplomatic relationship between us.”

While noting that the crisis of the Nigerian state has assumed frightening and bewildering dimensions that was threatening the country’s corporate existence, the traditional ruler remarked that “the national question has thus far remained unresolved 100 years after amalgamation.”
