Man United's Form Isn't Ferguson's Fault! by teekrackz(m): 10:33pm On Dec 07, 2013
In some corners of the internet and pubs, I’ve
heard a few cheeky souls blaming Sir Alex
Ferguson for the current misfortunes at
Manchester United.
They have suggested that Fergie knew that his
current team was on its last legs and wanted to leave
on a high whilst he could, leaving both his successor
and the club in a rotten situation and thus perhaps
elevating his status even further.
This to me seems utterly preposterous! Sir Alex
clearly loved the club as he managed it for 26 years
and wouldn’t want to leave the club in a bad
situation. To my mind, Fergie realised that the club
required a reboot and due to his age maybe thought
United could do with fresh guidance to see this new
era through.
It’s not like he left the club in dire straits – I mean the
team still has Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney,
emerging talents like Rafael da Silva, David de Gea
and Phil Jones and experienced professionals like
Ryan Giggs, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra.
He knew it needed tweaking and thought now was
the ideal time to give someone else the chance to
take the club forward and mould the club in their
image.
Poor Summer Transfer Window?
A club with United’s global reach, although they may
not have the financial muscle of say a Real Madrid,
PSG or Manchester City, can still go out there and
splash the cash.
It is clear from the start to this season, Ferguson
worked miracles with the squad and serious
investment was needed over the summer to
strengthen an aging back four and an entire new
midfield. United were linked with all sorts of players
over the summer but only Marouane Fellaini arrived.
Not only has he not cut it so far, but he wasn’t
enough!
As Adnan Januzaj has been United’s best player on
the wings, why was something not done to get rid of
the dead-wood on the wings and bring in someone
capable of terrifying defences with their
combination of skill and pace? I could go on much
further about the transfer policy.
David Moyes?
It has been well documented that Moyes seems to
have increased the intensity of the training sessions
and while Rooney has prospered, Van Persie hasn’t. It
is suspected that this change in training is at least a
contributing factor to his injury problems this season
and the first half against Fulham is evidence enough
that when those two click, not much can be done to
stop them. If those two were fit, I doubt United would
be in their current predicament.
Another thing worth mentioning is that under
Ferguson, United were known for scoring late goals
yet under Moyes, United seem to be known for
conceding them. Late goals conceded against
Southampton, Cardiff and Everton have cost United 7
points this season, putting them just outside the
“Top 4”. Some put this down to Moyes’ defensive
mentality but could it be linked to the intense
training sessions leaving them tired late in games?
In conclusion, I believe it is a combination of the
transfer window and Moyes. I just hope that United
can get things right in January so the club can move
forward, otherwise both Moyes and the club might be
in trouble.
