I finally watched 'A Quiet Place'. As i shut my laptop down, I sighed...a sigh of pleasure.

How can anyone say this movie is boring or overrated? I mean, what the flying fvck??! undecided

The horror and tension, especially from the middle was relentless. It is very unique movie, exploring the theme of survivalism in the midst of the chaos caused by the ruckus of technology. We live noisy lives vis endless chatter, music, louspeakers, phones, vehicles, even toys. What if all the noise attracted carnivorous monsters that feed off that noise? Can we survive? Can we stay a week without technology. We see a family thriving and adapting to lives without noise, albeit living. in fear.

The movie also proved that you don't need dialogue to make it a success. The river scene between father and son was the only scene with dialogue, yet it was able to fully integrate with the rest of the movie and build it.

The ending brought tears to my eyes though. Well, almost brought tears. It was so sad... sad

For the theme alone, I give this movie 9.5/10. Beautiful movie. One of the best so far this year.

I was really shocked that some people placed A Quiet Place and boring in the same sentence. That movie is one of the best movies this year so far. But then again, different strokes for different peeps. We all can't love the same thing. Just like Acrimony was average at best for me, yet some people lauded it as very interesting.

I'm watching Acrimony next. I have a feeling it may appeal to me. The downside is I will be watching it with a critical eye. grin

People need to start watching movies not just for entertainment and action , but the underlying messages. Anyone who says Quiet Place is boring obviously watched it for entertainment purposes alone.

is it a rule that a Black American movie has to be about a husband cheating on his wife?? Even this Acrimony? Abeg I need a black American movie about anything that doesn't have anything to do with infidelity? Thank you

It's not all black American movies that are that way, but mostly TYLER PERRY'S movies. Tyler Perry needs to move away from his regular romantic/relationship drama if he wants to get the recognition he wants, especially if he wants his movies taken serious.

His movies are never blockbusters nor gross highly because he's limited. If He wants to move to the realm of directors like Scorsese, Ridley Scott, Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Tarantino, Clint Eastwood, etc, then he needs to bring up innovative ideas to his movies. He needs to be versatile. Take up other movie genres that are thought-provoking and imaginative. I guess he's content with being just rich and not aiming high.

If it hadn't received wide acclaims it received on this thread, I'd have watched it with the average expectations I usually employ in all Tyler Perry's movies. It did receive poor ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, though. The best Tyler Perry movie for me remains For Coloured Girls. The rest are average or a bit above average.

The bot got me, just got free now.

I have to chip in with KoiceReloaded and superhumanist argument.

I am conspiracy theorist because i believe facts must have been adulterated by government or powers that may be.
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by oyetpel(m): 1:59pm On Jun 15, 2018
There are some things that do not need to be compared because they do not correlate. Like you comparing Boko Haram and Hitler to Malcom X.
For example here in Nigeria, the herdsmen continue to kill people in middle belt and some parts in North east, and criminals like T.Y. Danjuma are encouraging them to pick arms against the herdsmen, if they do so will you also compare armed Benues and Boko Haram?
The MLK you are talking about was actually a puppet. The NOI militia shook America along with the elegant and eloquent Malcolm X as their mouthpiece. It was all over national TV that blacks have taken on arms against white supremacists.
It was then that the government noticed a certain MLK with his peaceful protest in his small town. MLK was like choosing a lesser evil between two evils. The government supported him and he took his peaceful protest national.

Hitler might be infamous, but the world leaders made him so many people have committed atrocities far greater than Hitler but labeled famous and heroes because Hitler refused to compromise on his principles and he committed suicide because of it. You think Germany would have become a world power if Hitler hasn't exterminated and send away Jews from their land?
People buy Hitler's book to read about a hero and uncompromising man.

Stalin of Russia was a murderer but Uk and Usa govt. dine with him because he was willing to do their bid. Why was Stalin not labeled infamous?
Let's bring it down to Nigeria, a certain Kaduna Nzeogbu (who to me is the most eloquent Nigerian i have ever heard speak after Tafawa Balewa and he also seem intelligent) will never be heard of in the history of Nigeria except you search on him and his views on why he plotted the coup. But people like Danjuma who killed his own boss, plotted coup with Murtala and co labeled themselves as Nigeria heroes. WHY?

Because they formed the government. And whatever the government name you that's how the rest will see you. So if a government said you are a traitor, an infamous then you are. If they say you are a hero then you are.

You think Mandela didn't participate in the violence protest during apartheid with his ANC comrades?

Mandela became soft in prison when the whites told him they can't just hand over in the face of violence, the blacks will see them as weak. So Mandela had to compromise with the whites in prison.
Blacks in SA thought Mandela will retaliate against the whites when he became president but he didn't, he preached love instead become he was compromised in prison.

You think NOI militia and Malcom X didn't shook America, aid the rise of MLK and set human rights in motion? THINK AGAIN. But the whites can't succumb to NOI violence, they will be seen as weak.

I believe there are powerful people controlling each country and the world all together. But the powers that be in Nigeria are backward thinking, demented, bootlicking, asslicking who have sold our country to both Europeans, Americas and Asians in order to enrich their families.

You think the stupid Fashola don't know how to solve Nigeria's electricity problem? But he can't because so many big factories co owned by shares from Europe and US in Asia will collapse.
Same as problems facing other sectors too. If Education problem is solved who will apply to foreign schools while their money go into their economy, who will drag the lowly ridiculous dish washing jobs between their selves to see the price reduced to cents?

In conclusion the government labeled Malcolm X an anti hero while MLK is named a hero but real people who are not swayed by the government knows what anti heroes and people labeled as infamous stood for and still follows them.

Abiola was charged with treason in 1993 and was sent to prison, another government awarded the the highest honour post-humouly this year.

She's an integral part of the comic book and Joker's partner in crime. Since the storyline is lifted from the comic book, all the characters have to be represented whether they played a major role or not. Dropping her character would've incensed fans. She and Joker are both stark raving psychopaths who just want to kill with or without reasons.

They should have given her a special power or something to justify her inclusion.

This is exactly what I was telling someone. African American movies have a Nollywood-ish vibe. I'll never watch Acrimony because I already know what to expect. I know it's gonna same old same old.

By that logic, batman shouldn't be part of justice league.

Batman has no special powers. He is just a rich and athletic guy with good detective skills.

As for Harley Quinn, she is highly acrobatic (as demonstrated with her stripper performance in her cell) and very good with odd weapons. She also has high tolerance like the joker

Solo: A Star Wars Story

The only things I really didn't like about Solo are the name scene and the Marvel-esque sequel bait, but they didn't ruin the movie. I'd still rank Solo below Rogue One and The Force Awakens, but I enjoyed all three. 7/10

It's not even the same thing. Batman is an highly skilled vigilante with SOA cutting edge gadgets to back him up. Movie Harley Quinn is just a crazy woman with no special talent or ability. Comic Harley Quinn is different but the movie version sucks. Stop trying to initiate a debate where there is none.

Death Race 2008

Really? So what exactly was the difference between comic book Harley and movie Harley?.....Seeing as both versions are acrobatic and have weird weaponry.

This is not a debate. I am correcting your biased notions on the movie.

This guy has a problem. This is my last reply to you till you come up with a something meaningful worth arguing about.

Comic Harley Quinn:
- High intelligence
- Exceptional agility and strength
- Immunity to most toxins
- Skilled Gymnast,
- Exceptional at hand to hand combatant

Movie Harley Quinn
- Skilled Gymnast
- Adept at hand to hand combatant (debatable since she wielded a baseball bat 99% of the time)

- TDR: Bane's plan is to use the threat of a big bomb to turn Gotham into some kind of quasi-socialist dystopia. Except, he knows the bomb is going to go off no matter what, killing everyone in Gotham, himself included. If his goal is to just kill everybody, what's the point of the socialist dystopia? That sh*t still bugs me.

Wrong again! How is it a plot hole when Bane explained the reason why he turned Gotham into some kind of Quasi-socialist dystopia? He said he wanted to give the people of Gotham false hope before he destroyed Gotham which will in turn cause Batman some mental agony

Below is the dialogue that confirms this-

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bruce Wayne: Why didn't you just... kill me?

Bane: You don't fear death... You welcome it. Your punishment must be more severe.

Bruce Wayne: Torture?

Bane: Yes. But not of your body... Of your soul.

Bruce Wayne: Where am I?

Bane:
Home, where I learned the truth about despair, as will you. There's a reason why this prison is the worst hell on earth... Hope. Every man who has ventured here over the centuries has looked up to the light and imagined climbing to freedom. So easy... So simple... And like shipwrecked men turning to sea water from uncontrollable thirst, many have died trying. I learned here that there can be no true despair without hope. So, as I terrorize Gotham, I will feed its people hope to poison their souls. I will let them believe they can survive so that you can watch them clamoring over each other to "stay in the sun." You can watch me torture an entire city and when you have truly understood the depth of your failure, we will fulfill Ra's al Ghul's destiny... We will destroy Gotham and then, when it is done and Gotham is ashes, then you have my permission to die

Very good. So you admit that the movie at least showcased 2 of her abilities. Considering that she is not a the only character, how do you expect the movie to showcase all of her abilities? You want the movie to run into 4 hours?

And by your logic, many characters in comic book movies wouldnt be necessary. You cannot showcase the full extent of a side character's abilities as there is no time for that. For example, in Deadpool, domino's abilities are far more than "luck".

In fact, it actually makes sense. A hurricane can actually cover up evidence of your crime.
