A lot books, health magazines as well as blogs have hinted on the need to reduce our salt intake. This cannot be over emphasised, to make you understand this, I'll try to paint a clearer picture from a scientific angle. If you went through high school biology you would have come across the term "Osmosis". For those of you who never touched biology or even elementary science , its really not that complicated. It is defined as the movement of water from an area of low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration through a semi permeable membrane ( something that is porous and selectively allows fluids to flow through e.g. body cells). When we take in too much salt the body through a process referred to as osmoregulation to stabilise the body, increases the absorption of water ( through semi permeable membranes in the kidney tubules) and thus increasing the volume of blood and subsequently increasing blood pressure. This is a sure way to develop hypertension.
