Re: Taxis In Lagos: How Profitable? by Gamine(f): 12:42pm On Aug 05, 2008 |
it depends nowwwww. From ikeja to VI, i wont enter for more than 1000 if u hv some form of luggage, 1500 to 3000, depending on how you look. From VI to Ajah, about the same thing From Ebute-metta to Iyana ipaja, hole your 4000-2500, depending Short distance like Surulere to Yaba, 300, Vi to lekki, 300 to 700 Taxi people dey look face oo, if u look like oyinbo they go charge high. |

Depends a lot on traffic for the day. I would advise that a prospective driver listens to traffic reports every other hour on radio to avoid jam packed areas. I know that some of those taxi guys make an average pay but they blow it all up on eran-igbe and shekpe. |

Re: Taxis In Lagos: How Profitable? by spikedcylinder: 2:09pm On Aug 05, 2008 |
Yes o Gam, broke my leg. I nearly died from the pain. Thank heavens for friends and family. Limping is such a b!tch though. As I never get choice, werrin I go do? Today, to avoid taking a bike, I walked from Awolowo road to my office in Osbourne Foreshore. Imagine limping all that way? It wasnt funny! I woulda taken a taxi but the estate is restricted to taxis. Thats another problem with taxis, a lot of high brow areas are becoming restricted but I guess that wouldnt concern the driver? Drop you at the gate and zoom off eh? |

Thank you guys but I want to know how much exactly they earn daily. So like N10,000 - N50,000? This is excluding there expenses just the money they earn from the fares only. |

Re: Taxis In Lagos: How Profitable? by Guk: 6:32pm On Aug 05, 2008 |
LePhillipe, If you are looking to invest in the Lagos Taxi project. I suggest you take a ride with a Random sample of Taxi drivers and have a nice chat about their challenges i.e. Cost of operations; Routes; No Go Areas etc. the Elderly ones in VW Golf taxi are quite chatty and will reveal old war stories to you. Its a good way to know their operations 1st hand 1 Like |
Re: Taxis In Lagos: How Profitable? by lucabrasi(m): 6:58pm On Aug 05, 2008 |
@poster i suggest you go for the private taxi option, its more profitable plus yours will be able to drive into restricted areas like estates e.t.c took one of them from my house near sheraton hotel to muritala mohammed airport to wait for only 1 hr plus and take me back finish and they collected 5,000, painted taxis charge considerably less i think, thats my opinion though im not current seeing as i dont live in lagos |
Re: Taxis In Lagos: How Profitable? by klas(m): 10:16pm On Aug 05, 2008 |
What the drivers make from fares and what is deliverable to the owners are two separate things. 'Deliver money' to use their terms is negotiated upfront and is is usually based on industry average. Can be as low as N2,000 per day for 14 seater bus for intra-lagos transit bus. The driver is responsible for fueling and very minor repairs. Major repairs are borne by the owners. The simple fact is that if you are not the one driving it yourself, the driver will benefit more. He may make the whole day deliverables on just one trip. |
