How to Exfoliate Your Body for Soft Skin

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead, rough skin with your own very inexpensive body scrub or sand (yes, sand) and loofah. Your skin will be soft, touchable and glowing. Long term use will make your skin become slightly fairer due to removal of black spots on the skin.
There are two types of exfoliators, for the body (body scrub) and for the face.

Method 1 of 4: Exfoliating with Body Scrub

There are specific instructions on how to apply different body scrub products, but, nonetheless, there's a general way to apply.

1. Squeeze small amount of body scrub into palm before you bathe or shower. Apply to your skin and massage in circular motion.

2. Start at your ankles and work your way up. Use a loofah mitt or exfoliating gloves for best results.

3Rinse.

4. Apply body lotion right after your shower to keep the moisture in.

Method 2 of 4: Exfoliating with a Loofah

1. Take a loofah or mesh puff and squeeze a small amount of bodywash or shower gel.

2. Rub all over body. Rinse.

3Use body lotion.

Method 3 of 4: Exfoliating with Sand

1. Get a cupful of wet sand.

2. Massage all over your body and rinse.

Method 4 of 4: Exfoliating Your Face

1. Sweep your hair out of your face. Secure with some pins or use a band to keep it back.

2. Cleanse and rinse your skin as normal.

3. Take your exfoliator. There are exfoliating products specifically for different skin types. Steer clear of harsh formulas, even if you think your skin can withstand it.

4. Squeeze a coin sized amount into the palm of your hand. Massage into your T-Zone with soft motions, and squeeze a coin sized amount into your hands again, and separate into halves before applying to your cheeks and place a small blob onto your chin. Stroke into your skin.

5. Begin to exfoliate your skin. It is best to do this with clean hands to prevent infection spreading. In gentle, circular motions, swirl the exfoliator around your skin to sweep away any grime and dead skin cells. Use harsher motions upon bumpy and more problematic parts of the skin, but never scrub your skin. It will become sore and react by reproducing more sebum and your skin, most likely, will become worse than it was before.

6. After around three minutes of massaging your skin, rinse your hands, and taking some water, rinse your skin free of the product. Repeat to ensure clarity.

7. Take a small hand towel. Pat your skin dry and take a rich moisturizer and smooth over your face and neck to replenish any lost moisture.

8. Your skin should now be smooth! Repeat the process two to three times a week unless the product is advised for daily use.

TIPS

-Using a loofah or something similar will add to the benefits of exfoliation.
-Make sure to never be too rough on your skin. Also try to get a brush that is not to harsh on your skin.
-Exfoliating your legs removes dead skin, and ensures a closer shave (so you don't have to shave as often). You can make your own exfoliator by mixing vegetable/olive oil and sea salt together. The salt removes dead skin, and also moisturizes it, and is great to do before tanning.
-This will not only exfoliate your dead, flaky skin, but it also stimulate your circulation. That's why we start at the ankles.
-You can always make a body/facial scrub out of common household items found in your kitchen.
-As an alternate, you can use a natural bristle brush with no products. Focus on the back of arms and thighs. It's called dry skin brushing and it feels great.
-a very helpful way to remove a tan on the body
-For extra exfoliation, when washing towels, don't use fabric softener and when drying off, rub the towel gently in circular movements all over your body.
-Bath fizzes may be a nice way to clean and they're fun!

WARNING
-It is not recommended to use body exfoliator on your face, as it is too abrasive.

Things You Will Need

-Exfoliating body/facial scrub
-Loofah
-Towel
-Moisturizing body lotion
-Natural bristle brush

@Godmother
Great initiative.

We live in the tropics where our skin needs some form of protection from the sun. Creams contain sunscreen. Does exfoliating take care of that?

Hello.
This is quite confusing. I've attended many seminars, make up classes and read books that specifically warn against exfoliating more than twice a month.
Exfoliating is good for the skin, but if done in excess i.e weekly or daily can cause lots of negative effects on the skin like wrinkles, sagging skins, scarring etc.
Also, our skin cells do not die often, that is why exfoliating often is dangerous.
Thanks. #my Two cents.
