A Mexican man whose case has drawn international attention has been executed in Texas for the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl.

Jose Medellin, 33, was put to death by lethal injection after the US Supreme Court rejected a last-minute appeal.

The International Court of Justice had urged Texas not to execute Medellin, as he had not been told of his right to consular help when he was arrested.

---

On Tuesday, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on the US to abide by the ICJ ruling.

"All decisions and orders of the International Court of Justice must be respected by states," he told a television station in Mexico City, where he is attending a world Aids conference.

"The United States should take every step to make sure the execution does not take place."

We are told that by 'foolish govt officials' that Nigeria must abide by ICJ rule on Bakasi and destroy the life of its own people.

Yet, ordinary states in USA did not abide by ICJ and no HELL is failing.

when will AFRICANS learn to defend their own right?

when will AFRICANS remove this inferiority complex.

I salute Mugabe, who did not coward away.

in this case YES.

why should we sacrifice our people(Bakasi) because of ICJ while USA as shown above rejected the ICJ rulling and went ahead to kill Mexican Citizen?

ICJ can go to hell, otherwise, we would forever be in their shadow and fear.

Because we took this case to the ICj. And we promised to abide by whatever ruling the court gave before the case started.

And we lost. And we're honor bound to do as we promised and let go of the disputed territory.

Truth be told, most observers (including Nigerians) affirm that bakassi truly belongs to cameroon originally. We could have conducted a referendum and decided to keep the territory since most Bakassi people wanna stay in Nigeria.

It's not a case of 'the ICj can go to hell' and 'shadow or fear'. If we had not lived up the ruling, no one would have imposed sanctions on us. No one could have. Obasanjo decided to play 'elder statesman' and give up the land without a whimper.

Tell you the truth, if i were president of Nigeria, we'd have had that security council seat. Simply announce to the Un that Nigeria will no longer participate in any further peacekeepin goperation in Africa on behalf of the UN and watch how many countries start quaking in their boots. We provide the cannon fodder for African operations and they know it.

Hell, if i was president i may have long made incursions into Niger and Chad to kill the bandits that carry out raids in the north. And i probably may have punished Cameroon for their recent involvement in the fracas in the Bakassi egion, so maybe it's better that i'm not president.

You think it was inferiority complex that made Obasanjo give away bakassi?

Nope! It's the self-righteousness and delusions of grandeur that plagues Nigerians that made him try to play to the gallery and act as an elder statesman.
Same with when he gave Charles Taylor refuge in Nigeria, even after it was confirmed that he personally fed two Nigerians to crocs back in the days. . .

Was the case decided @ ICJ? or a concern for human right?
The State of Texas is not bound by ICJ ruling regarding the execution if the case is not taken to to decide. What would say of a Nigerian that was executed sometime last year in Malaysia what did the ICJ do or say about it? On daily basis people are been executed especially in Sharia Countries what is the ICJ doing or saying about it ?

We should know that cultural difference and religion plays significant role in internatonal politics.
