Where are the people being amalgamated? Are they those "slave-looking" blacks standing at the corner ready to shout "yes massar" at the slightest call from the men on the horses, or those brainwashed gun-bearing guys feeling so fly, on having being choosen to be the guards in an occasion where their future is being messed up? This aint no amalgamation, it is a business meeting amongst partners. 3 Likes |

Nobody is celebrating, only lining up to gawp at their overlords. The people look helpless and defeated (because barely a decade before they were all fighting against a Nigeria altogether) and the photo is very similar to other photos of countries under surrender. Look at Japan under surrender: |

bombay: god will never forgive the british For doing what? angel TI: .....and this was the day Nigeria' s problem was signedThis was the day a great nation like America, Britain and Soviet Union was formed but we chose to take the route of the Soviets because there was and still no definition of the word "UNION" which surprisingly was the key to an ever successful America and failed Soviet union. The ethnic and religious diversity in Nigeria is and has always been a key ingredient for the birth of a great country. Ancient Rome thrived amongst her neighbouring states because of her diverse ethnic, religious and cultural populace. Nigerians must decide today if this positive diversity is a powder for an arsenal or for a cosmetic beautician. |

I have my doubts about the authenticity of this picture. The boy clutching his wrapper looks like a tuareg ( or white or photoshop), everybody else looks indian or elsewhere in africa, lagos was not the capital of nigeria at the time, and the amalgamation was more of red tape than anything else. It was simply for administrative purposes mostly. The real amalgamation began previously with the abolition of the slave trade. |
