11 Injured In MASSOB/ Traders Clash In Onitsha by sammy329(m): 9:19pm On Jan 08, 2014 |
A clash between the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and traders at the Ugwuagba Old Motor Spare Parts Market, Obosi, Idemili-North local government area, a suburb of Onitsha, Anambra State on Wednesday left no fewer than 11 persons, including the chairman of the market, Chief Ifeanyi Agulu, injured. Trouble started when the market chairman attempted to stop the N50 levy being collected daily from traders in the market by the MASSOB, an action which angered MASSOB members and they descended on him, giving him the beating of his life. The chairman had insisted that he would no longer allow the payment of the levy by traders, with effect from the New Year, describing it as illegal and an extortion. About 11 persons were inflicted with various degees of injuries as a result of the free-for-all between the two, forcing the shutdown of the market by a combined team of policemen and soldiers around 1pm. When contacted, the Onitsha police area commander, Mr. Benjamin Wordu, confirmed the incident, saying the police were on top of the situation as he had sent his officers and men there to quell the situation. Reacting on the development, the MASSOB director of information, Comrade Uchenna Madu condemned the bloody clash and called for peaceful co-existence between MASSOB and the traders. He urged traders to see MASSOB as their own group protecting the interest of the Igbo nation. http://leadership.ng/news/311081/11-injured-in-massob-traders-clash-in-onitsha |

MASSOB members are best described as an extreme right-wing group. I could see many of the members forming a party and protesting against something or the other even if there were a Biafra. 1 Like |

Nobody is Igboland wants Massob. I understand why Peter Obi has taken a stand to stamp them out |
