Best Everyday Automobile For Lagos: Nominations For 2008 by Dedax(m): 12:26pm On Aug 24, 2008
Please post your nominations for the best everyday ride for Lagos roads considering the following:

- Traffic jams:over heating, slow running etc
- Submarine capabilities: Flooding and (if it can float it will be da bomb) ground clearance
- Suspensions: ability to survive avarage road (craters) potholes
- Durability: How long can it survive before falling apart
- Cost of maintenance: Cheap is a relative term,if its worth more than its weight in salt- ITS CHEAP
- Fuel Economy: Diesel,Petrol, gas (or those who have the mythical water engines )even steam engines are welcome
- Any other attributes you know makes it fit for Lag

Pictures,Specs and justifiable reasons will be great. You MUST HAVE YOUR REASON(s) O!

All are free to criticise -but constructively please. Decent yabbing is totally allowed grin

Re: Best Everyday Automobile For Lagos: Nominations For 2008 by idupaul: 12:56pm On Aug 24, 2008
my nominees are:

Toyota Prado 2008: cool and cheap suv to run, variable suspension for bad lagos roads, great climate control for lagos humidity, nice tansmission for                             for    smooth ride, and its pretty too with a low cost of maintenance, infact its the suv with the reliability of a corolla.

Toyota corolla:   the work horse of the nigerian middle class, a trully reliable car fro the average lagosian, will never fail u in hold up and cheap to run too.

I would say any average Japanese SUV will suffice. They are reliable strong and the parts are not that expensive to obtain. You could also go for the Ford F-150 provided it is brand new. It's untouchable on any terrain except for the slight fact that the jap cars are more fuel friendly.
Re: Best Everyday Automobile For Lagos: Nominations For 2008 by Dedax(m): 8:02pm On Aug 24, 2008
@Thor, Idupaul you guys might win a nobel for your green friendliness grin

Atilla- seems you have been walking around my mind.

As for flying,Seems PH boys don't have the challenge of flying straight into another car (traffic jam) as is the case in lagos, even third mainland don close sad, come to think of it,we should consider flying cars as well grin

As for buying a new a brand new Toyota prado, that out of reach for the average nigerian worker, got any friendlier sugesstion?
Where r the lagos nairalanders? say something
Re: Best Everyday Automobile For Lagos: Nominations For 2008 by Dedax(m): 8:13pm On Aug 24, 2008
Where are all the Lagos nairalanders? Most of the contributions have been coming from peeps outside

Dont think a ford truck in Nigeria is a very good idea. As you rightly noted those trucks are GAS guzzlers!

That wont be nice on the budget. Good for intimidation though, okada no go try stunts with you.

the toyota corolla has all the qualities mentioned above.

the older toyota camry (1997 - 2000) would be ok if we're considering a relatively cheap used car.

the landcruiser could have qualified too but it is not armed robber-resistant. u need that too as part of the qualities being looked at. the ultimate car should not attract too much attention.

for a used SUV, consider the toyota 4runner. has a low profile, is particularly strong and possesses all the other toyota qualities.

Re: Best Everyday Automobile For Lagos: Nominations For 2008 by Nobody: 9:48pm On Aug 24, 2008
If you keep thinking about robbers stealing your car, you'll never get one. You might as well get the old "504", It is definitely robber resistant, cheapest parts available, you can fix the car yourself, survives all weather/road conditions. The only problem is that it is the only car where you can actually "watch your gas guage go down as you are driving". Those cars were dragons back in the dayz. The rate at which they "drink" fuel is insane
