hAVE u noticed or done it? The way nigerians, even the once in yankee act when it comes to food and drinks at parties espcially weddings? complete disgace, most akata and africans always complain about naijaa's attitude when "food don land", I was at nigerian wedding last week friday, and my God, i was ashamed to be a naija man that day because the way my country people dey behave. People eat only one plate and left the party, but naija no!!!! come see how naija man dey run with 12 packs or DR pepper water go car like bolt wey win olympics, carrying food to parking lots 10 times, drinking like sH6%t, , It got to a point that i couldnt stand it no more. I was mad this particular naija dude, The guy first took two 12 packs of dr pepper into his car and next 4 take way plates and then another 3 packs of 7ups and on and on and on, (him dey run up and down like person wey dey run marathon). , wetin dey cause am? |

~Greed!! is what causes people to act in such shameless manner . . . not that they cant afford to buy the drinks/food but just b/c its free, they want to scuff the lot or make special takeaway!! ~I have heard stories like this one too many times . . most of them told as hilarious jokes . . the most extreme been. . . people making away w/ pots of Fried rice,Jollof, soup, trays at some parties ~When i did witness someone doing it,i was appalled!! there was a low-key b-day gathering i attended w/ expected guests no more than 10 . . 15 been the most for uninvited people that might show up ~There was enough food & drinks to go around 3x & over . . . . As soon as one of the female guests laid eyes on the Grilled salmon . . she wasted no time in cutting it right in the middle, wrapped it in foil as take-away,along w/ the pasta salad that wudnt even keep . . . & pepper chicken . . . i was & like "No way" as i observed her making a doggybag remarking "I wont be cooking for a week!!!!" then i got . . there was only about 4/5 people that had turned up . . . she didnt even give people the chance to eat & then doggy bag what's left over, there was going to be enough food left over anyways . . . if she didnt want to cook that week!! i had a word w/ the host & all she wud say was"she's known for that habit of doggypacking even before the party starts!!" Imagine coming all the way to london to gain such a reputation Life!! |

Rotflmao! This is hilarious and so freaking true. My aunt was celebrating her daughter’s 5th birthday, so they had hotdogs, spaghetti, Mac & Cheese and all the yamayama children’s food and one woman kept packing, as the food lands, she will carry her own. . . way before anyone started eating, even the children. They brought adult food, she went again, at this point my aunt was pissed off, so she took her to the side and kinda told to just chill, at least until after the party. . . let everybody eat now. This woman FLARED up, said my aunt embarrassed her, do they think she’s starving and it’s out of LOVE she is wants to eat. Eat yes, not carry 10 to go plates before the party even starts. Too funny! |

Bash MP007 all you like, but he's actually right. I have not attended any Nigerian parties here, but in Nigeria, it was all I saw. Once the food was there, it was like there was going to be none the following week, the way people grabbed and stuffed. It's not uncommon to see Nigerians in Nigeria taking some of the food and drink home, most of us have seen this, why deny the fact? I've also experienced the same when on holiday - I've stayed in 4 star hotels, all inclusive. Lunch and supper's usually a serve yourself buffet. I remember this Nigerian couple in Tunisia, it was amusing to go to lunch, even when I wasn't hungry, just to watch the pair of them heap their plates time after time, polish them off, then put more stuff into their beach bags, to take up to their rooms! So yes, the poster's right, it's more common than people think, or care to admit. |

Sisikill I m rolling on the floor on that story. She said "out of love?" . Whoa. I guess I have not been to enough Nigerian parties to notice. I will look out for it next time and have a good laugh. I can't imagine throwing a party and someone gets out a doggy bag when no one has even started eating. The person will be very politely told to respect themselves. |

The poster is absolutely right. This is very common at Nigerian weddings, you'll see a big-ass cake but when it comes to serving them, you get crumbs of it with no toppings/sweeteners. I'm staring at the cake like "wtf is this?" and then you see these Nigerian women carrying aluminum foils around. That's when it all figures. When you go to American parties, they serve you big cakes. You won't even want anymore.I don't know why Nigerians make cakes a big deal. Pheww!! I haven't been to a naija party in like forever. . . so, yeah, that's how long ago this thing has been happening for all y'all saying they don't do it. |

Re: The Way Many(not All) Nigerians Behave At Parties by omoge(f): 2:29am On Sep 15, 2008 |
the poster is right. what i don't understand is how someone will take rice, jollof, fried rice, pyam and egusi, fried fish, fried goat meat, puff puff in one setting. i see them i belle full. now before i go to Nigeria party, i eat at home that way i just pick a drink and chat. when i go to nig bd, weddings etc i always laugh and watch how they act when it comes to food. that rushing spirit is forever instilled maybe. they try hard to curb it but u can see that e rush e face. |
Re: The Way Many(not All) Nigerians Behave At Parties by mohawkchic(f): 2:39am On Sep 15, 2008 |
now before i go to Nigeria party, i eat at home that way i just pick a drink and chat. ~Me & You both!! I can't tell you's how grateful i am . . my mum God bless her forced me & my siblings to eat before attending any parties Dunno know about y'll but as kids when me & my siblings knew we had a party to go,we wouldnt eat. .must have been excitement . . Rule of our house was "You don't eat before,You don't Go"!! ~As an adult now,its still a rule i follow,i always eat before attending parties thrown by my country folks. .& when i do eat it's only at close friends & family do's,the big plus being I know who prepared the food !! I hear most times, party food sucks anyways |
Re: The Way Many(not All) Nigerians Behave At Parties by omoge(f): 2:54am On Sep 15, 2008 |
exactly. what they cook here i just shake my head. one i went to just this summer made pepper soup with goat meat and then added vegetable oil to it. i was like what? one other one i went over to help before i left for school. goodness gracious i was like Osanobua Chineke m. !!! the lady kept putting maggi in everything she was cooking. the knorr that has like double cubes she threw in 5 of it i almost caught cold. i witness everything now i know better the more. so i just stayed away from all the food. party food sucks. i jokingly told the lady that too much is unhealthy. i wonder that's how she cooks for her new hubby. yet they will be dragging and rushing aha!! |

Two reputations one must not have 1.Being known as a thief 2.Being known as a glutton AKA "hungry person" Tufia let people say I'm poor, badly dressed, drive junky car, have bad hair,I can handle those But to gain reputation as madam food for party, that one na blemish wey go follow you and your children's children till death. @ original poster, people called you names but you spoke the truth. Some Nigerians are downright low when it comes to food. In my town here in the USA, there's a lady that is number one in that department and I've personally seen a host on 2 ocassions, at 2 different parties ask her to wait till the party is over before wrapping up her take away container. She doesn't use plates. She uses an aluminium pan to pack hers. She'll collect puff puff in polythene bags and store them under the table and put bottles of malt in her purse. First off,we're not big party goers and my man would never go to a party of anyone he's not close friends with. That's just his policy. I always cook and bring to most parties that I've been to here in the US, that's the way we do it here and at the end, the host asks the ladies and everyone to take any leftovers. I've also held birthday parties and christenings and asked people to take food or actually wrapped foods and given to people because it can be a lot to store but folks taking foods from parties of people they don't even know that well and worse in the middle or beginning of the party,is just low. |

omoge: I arrived early at a party to help my friend cook for an "umunna party" holding at her home. This woman was crushing and putting endless maggi cube in the vegetable soup. I lost count after the 10th one. I never use maggi in my soup, that's not the way I was taught. I only use 1 cube to season the meat and that's it but my dear ,even my own husband and all the other men were "praising" the soup until during the drive home,I told my man that soup had over 10 maggi cubes and he shouted. |

them actually go into a dark corner and have sex while dancing What a surprise. Whether Naija people are greedy or overly hungry at parties, I'd still take that over outright immorality at a party where children attend. Rubbish Osisi, Im confused on what's wrong with using maggi. |
Re: The Way Many(not All) Nigerians Behave At Parties by onyinye2(f): 3:41am On Sep 15, 2008 |
OSISI!!! I see you took the ways of Houston with you. LMAO!!! I swear the way some Nigerians are w/ food, you would think they have been starving for months. Chei, i can still remember one nwanyi who would use here endless count of children as a way to carry about her ways of taking food home. |
