Warning them isn't really enough. You got intel that a big and busy mall or market might be attacked and you couldn't send soldiers to guard the "biggest and busiest" mall in town? The SSS head should be sued for negligence.

Suppose your neighbour tells you that your house will be attacked on so so date and the attack happened as he told you. Who will be your first and certain suspect? How long will take a simple fool to understand who is killing innocent people?

This is so sad. Killings everywhere in this country and it is so bad that it is no longer a serious news because of its frequency.

emk4lif: ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria's intelligence agency said it has been warning shopping complexes in Abuja for two weeks that Islamic extremists might attack them in the capital, where a blast at a mall killed 22 people this week.

The increased security may have prevented even more carnage as witnesses said a security guard stopped a car bomber from entering the mall moments before the massive explosion on Wednesday.

Survivor Donald Chikason told ThisDay newspaper that a security guard argued with the driver of a car who wanted to enter Emab Plaza through the exit gate. When the guard refused, the man bent down and moments later the car exploded, Friday's edition of the newspaper quoted him as saying.

"The man started arguing, behaving as if he was drunk," it quoted him as saying.

Chikason, who works at a bank in the mall, was knocked unconscious by the blast and regained consciousness in the hospital.

The explosion was heard miles (kilometers) away. It set 17 vehicles ablaze and shattered windows throughout the four-story complex.

Body parts lay around the exit gate, other witnesses told The Associated Press. Dozens of wounded survivors were recovering in the hospitals Friday, most suffering burn wounds like Chikason, but at least one victim's leg was amputated, doctors said.

Nigerian intelligence received information that Boko Haram extremists were planning such an attack, said spokeswoman Marilyn Ogar of the Department of State Security.

"About two weeks ago we heard information that they were planning an attack at a busy shopping mall or market ... and so we had to go from one shopping complex to another trying to tell people to be more aware," she told The Associated Press.

Emab Plaza is the biggest and busiest in Abuja, the nation's capital in central Nigeria. The explosion occurred around rush hour as many residents were hurrying to view Nigeria's Super Eagles match against Argentina at the World Cup in Brazil. It was unclear if the bomb was timed to coincide with that, although Boko Haram has bombed several football viewing venues this year, prompting two northeastern states to ban public events to watch the football spectacular.

The state security department did not publish the intelligence about the threat to shopping malls, apparently to avoid a panic. Last week the government warned it had information that Boko Haram planned to hijack petrol tankers in the capital and booby trap them with explosives.

Two separate bombs in Abuja in April killed about 120 people and wounded more than 200 at a busy bus station.

President Goodluck Jonathan returned home Thursday night, cutting short his participation at an African Union summit in Equatorial Guinea.

If this is true, then we should reduce our critism of the SSS, they tried their best, they cant release release information like this and they deploy their men to protect the mall, the bomb goes off when one of their operative is preventing the sucide bomber from entering the mall.

They never said they know the date and time of the attack, but they have an intelligience that one mall will be attack. Which means they dont even have information about the mall boko haram is trying to attack.

Mall owners were informed before the bomb blast for them to do what? You have all the ammunition and intelligence at your disposal and you cannot do anything and you want the mall owners with one Aboki with bow and arrow maximum to stop the bombers.

If bombs be going off at will in the nations capital it means d office of the president is not safe
They can equally bomb Aso Rock

No matter how u warn people of an attack they would still heed ur warning
The best is to tighten up security in that area

Well I am not surprised no soldiers nor police were stationed at that location

If to say na keke napep or ordinary bike that one for fit boko haram profile, but powerbike?!.This sophistication goes to show that the bombings are machinations of "born to rule" politicians, those who are very disconcerted about GEJ and 2015. As for Lagos "O'boy dem done reach lagos. #braceyourself"..

emk4lif: This corroborates what a friend said online, he said he was tipped off on the day of the blast by a relative who works in the SSS to be very careful as there could be a bomb attack that day.
It raises questions as to why the attack couldn't be stopped if prior intelligence was available.

Terrorists know the security agents have informants among them. So, they don't give out definitive information. They plan an area to bomb, say a park, or a mall...all their people will know is that either a park will be bombed today or a mall. The main suicide bombers are told the exact venue once they're geared up and set out for the attack...funny enough the actual siucide bombers are not told where they'll attack till they are on their way out. That's why these brainwashed guys are very dangerous. Their sponsors should be gone after, and not the foot soldiers.

Good question you have there.
Enough with these prior warnings from our security agents. Armed with such information/intelligence, how come these same security agents DO NOT do all in their power to prevent such attacks and wanton destruction of lives and properties? My guess is this, our security agents have been compromised. No wonder these Boko Haram boys are having a field day.

God help us in nigeria. Now those things we used to watch in movies is coming to reality in my own country. Too bad. When there was news of the bombing, most people weren't even concerned because its now like we used to it. And still yet, we say we have a government. If the FCT is not safe, what is the fate of other states?

phlemzy: Does SSS expect business owners in Abuja shopping malls to all shutdown their businesses all because Bokoharam will be visiting? How come all of dis bloodshedding seems to have far ending. Where do we seek for further help to overcome all dis??
Where did they ask anyone to close their business, please? In intelligence, when you have warning like this and you don't know when and where exactly they intend to strike, you issue a general warning. The expected reaction is that the malls would increase security, for example man every gate with men and dogs and frisk everyone. Some of that appears to have been done here hence the bomber could not gain entrance which would have probably brought down the building and killed more people.

vedaxcool: It is the ss job to prevent attacks not just to warn about them, the last time I check malls don't have the technology to prevent bombs from blasting.
What's your point, sir? That they can prevent every attack or that they should not have issued the warning?
