"What Is The Relationship Between Salvation And Forgiveness?" by OLAADEGBU(m): 11:10pm On Jun 28, 2014
Question: "What is the relationship between salvation and forgiveness?"

Answer:

When we accept Jesus as our Saviour, we receive salvation and forgiveness. But that’s not all. The Bible says we also receive justification, redemption, reconciliation, atonement, propitiation, and regeneration. Each of these theological terms expresses wonderful truths about the blessing we receive when Jesus becomes our Saviour. Salvation and forgiveness, while related, are not exactly the same.

The term salvation comes from the Greek word sozo, which means "to be delivered, rescued." Salvation is deliverance from the penalty of sin, that is, eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23; Matthew 25:46). Salvation is God’s rescuing us from our deserved fate. Salvation also includes a more immediate deliverance from the power of sin in this life. Sin has lost its dominion over the saved ones (Romans 6:14). Faith in Jesus Christ rescues us from the empty and meaningless life described in Ecclesiastes and provides us with a life that is abundant and fruitful (John 10:10; Galatians 5:22–23).

The term forgiveness comes from the Greek word aphiemi, which means "to let go, to give up, to keep no longer." When Jesus forgives us, our sins, trespasses, iniquities, and transgressions are erased, wiped off the record. Forgiveness of sin is analogous to financial debt being erased. When God forgives us of our sins, we are free. Our sins are wiped out. God will never hold them against us (Psalm 103:12).

Salvation and forgiveness are closely related. There is no salvation without forgiveness. Salvation is God’s delivering us from the consequences of sin. Forgiveness is God’s erasing our sin debt. To use a financial illustration, forgiveness is God’s shredding the documents that list our debt, and salvation is God’s letting us out of debtors’ prison. Praise God for the wonderful salvation and forgiveness He has provided. May our lives reflect gratitude for all He has done for us (Romans 12:1).

God bless OLAADEGBU for your contribution, let me reinforce with this:
SALVATION
Salvation is receiving a new nature of God by accepting the personally of Jesus.
1. 'But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name' John 1:12,

2. Being born into God's kingdom
'Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3: 5 - 6
3. Salvation means translation from dominion of Satan to God's kingdom.
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: Col. 1: 13
Salvation means regeneration 4 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; To. 3: 5

FORGIVENESS
forgiveness is pardon received from deeds of unrighteousness done before salvation. All records of sin is wiped off.

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. Col. 3: 13

Forgiveness follows salvation because you must first accept The saviour to be forgiven. Forgiveness continues even in salvation when we miss the mark and attempt to make our way straight with God by confessing our wrong doing.

An unregenerated person needs salvation first, then forgiveness. A saved person has right to ask for forgiveness based on his knowledge of the finished work on the cross.

Hmmmmm.. My ogas have said it all.. Great job OP
Reading Heb10:10 we receive santification right when we become saved.. God not only forgives our sins, He imputes the righteousness of His Son on us(Read Rom4&5).. He does this through the help of His Son's sacrifice€an offering for sin..
As sanctification is connected to holiness, Heb10:10-14 say we are sanctified or perfected by the sacrifice of Jesus forever..
Our righteousness can't please God, yet, God doesnt see sin..But with the help of Jesus, God sees us righteous, not because of our works, but because God has made Jesus our righteousness 1Cor1:30...
And while we are perfected forever, we also have this type of sanctification€progressive sanctification.. Sanctification means "to set apart for holy use" The progressive sanctification is our own continual life of holiness Rom12:1-2..
As I understand..

Do u know the reason why I said most pastors doesn't know it is that they dont preach about it.... And u cant preach what u didn't understand... U were right about what u said but is more than that..... The reason why is hard to get sanctified is that, if truly u are forever u won't sin again.... Many claimed they are, yet next time u will see them asking for forgiveness.. Thats not sanctification ..... Until u no longer sin or think of sin.... Then u r sanctified.

Yeah.. But 2 claim dat u r sinless is 2 claim dt ur Jesus 2Pt2:22. To claim dt ur sinless is mk Rom3:10 a lie. To claim ur sinless is2 count ur righteousness as sumtin wen d bible calls it filthy rag Isa64:6.. To claim dt ur sinless is 2commit dt great sin in Heb10:26-29 whr one rejects d sacrifice ov Christ nd start trustn smetin else, self-righteousness 4 example..
We should understand dt as believers WE ARE HOLY FOREVER HEB10:10-14..Because God NO LONGER COUNTS YOUR SINS AGAINST U 2Cor5:19-21, Jh1:29, Rom6:14

Yeah..That's actuality that happened when we got saved.. If u continue in the same process ov trust in Jesus's death Col2:6 God continues 2 4give all ur sins, past, present and future sins
Many claimed they are, yet next time u will see them asking for forgiveness
That's wat I explained that though we are santified 4ever we liv our normal life here, but in the manisfestation of d fruits ov d Spirit Gal5:21-22. Yet we sin according to 1Jhn1:8-10.. And that's normal because we r humans stil in ds sinful nature.
Thats not sanctification
Yh but progressive sanctification
..... Until u no longer sin or think of sin.... Then u r sanctified.
Well thats possible but its untill when "dis corruptible has put on incorruption, and ds mortal has put on immortality" 1Cor15:51-57 and guess when that will be...

Sanctification is setting apart for Godly use, however we have been sanctified by the precious blood of Jesus and are set apart for his kingdom work
