If NFF don't annoyingly interrupt, i think Manu Garba should be given a shot.

we NEED TO bring in guys from our youth Nigerian squads and not pick our players based on popularity *cough* MIKEL *cough* grin grin grin.

mikeansy:

1-8-1 formation?

While that works in age grade football it just won't work at senior level because the last 1 player will keep opposing attackers on side and your defence will be found out!

I watched the under 17 team and could not work out the formation. They play like a basket ball team. You can't get away with things like that at senior level. You need to control games at the senior level

its more like 1-3-3-2-1

CB (Needs to be pretty awesome and quick)

DMC DMC DMC (needs to keep possession well and protect last man)

MR CM ML (wingers need to be adept at attack and defense)

AMC AMC (amc / inside forwards)

ST (Fast and strong )

Turned off by the Keshi Bashing.

Omeruo, Onazi, Oboabana all became key players under keshi and can serve Nigeria for another 10 years.

Keshi has fast-tracked their careers.

Oshaniwa and Babatunde can still do a decent Job for Nigeria.

When was the last time Nigeria was proud of its national team before Keshi.

African teams should cut power football. The ratio should be something like 50% power and 50% devoted to brain work, style and technique.
Currently a team like Ghana is 100% power and Nigeria, recently, 80% power. We don't want to copy Europe or South America so we should keep the power if power is an African thing - ideally we want a Nigerian style of play - but cut power. Nigeria should understand. grin

Also, i sometimes wonder why we cant make if practicable to take any of our world conquering youth teams, keep them together and persevere with them to to adulthood. Meaning, making them our senior national team from young to mature competitions. That last lot for instance were pretty good.

We need also to persevere with our Nigerian managers.

Re: Super Eagles - The Way Forward by Nobody: 10:04pm On Jul 02, 2014
at least most of us can agree that it is time for keshi to go.

his success so far has been due to the long list of talented players available to any nigerian coach
even some dumb and daft coach could have used the same team to get to q/finals in this world cup

just one player -onazi- got injured and the whole team fell apart. keshi had no answer!
immediately onazi was stretchered off the pitch, i stopped watching the match because i knew that SE were finished.
Jo bonfrere was saddled with an injured Mobi Oparaku, in france '98; he simply moved Mutiu adepoju (an attacker! ) to the same right back position, and he even played better than oparaku.
Bonfrere also switched Tijani babadiga (or was it Victor Ikpeba, can't remember now) to 7 position from his traditional 11 during SE match against S/Africa in 2000 African nations cup. He ended up banging in 2 goals from that right position. That is a coach. someone who can technically read matches! the french figured that onazi was the engine of our defensive midfield and simply assigned a hatchet man to take him out. the rest is history.
we need technically minded coaches -technical advisers is what we used to call them
yes we need one for the S/eagles!

Experience is nothing in modern football! Keshi's approach and tactics are obsolete and archaic. Look at Guardiola, DiMateo, AVB they all had little or no experience before wining the second biggest trophy in football. We need someone in touch with modern football. Oliseh is a good candidate.

1. Won the nations cup after 19 years.

2. Qualified for the second round after 16 years.

3. Qualified for CHAN for the first time after previous failures.

4. First African coach to take a team to the second round.

5.Qualified Togo of all countries to the worldcup.

YET, he can not get the respect he deserves from his compatriots.

The man is a legend in African Football.

The op's bashing is disgraceful. People are measured by their achievements.

None of your candidates can tie the lace of Keshi's shoe because they have achieved nothing yet.

Is that why we failed to win a game for 16 years even with more talented teams on paper.

bumdish: You spoilt your analysis by discrediting Keshi, a man that has achieved what no Nigerian and indeed no African, dead or alive has ever achieved.

1. Won the African cup as a player and as a coach
2. Been to the world cup as a player and as a coach
3. Won the 2013 African Nations cup
with a team that didn't even qualify for the 2012 edition and he won the cup
4. Has coached 3 African teams and qualified 2 to the world cup (Togo, Nigeria)
5. Firm believer in Nigeria premier league (Took a whooping 6 home based players to the 2013 Nations cup and 4 of them moved to Europe immediately after)
6. Firm believer in Nigeria premier league (Took 3 home based players to the 2014 World cup)

You had better wipe your distasteful comments about Keshi immediately. If a white man achieved a fraction of what he did, you people will praise him to high heavens but we will always revile our own. If Clement Westerhof is a good man, Keshi is not a great man, he is a HERO.

The first African coach to do so.

Before Keshi, when last did we dream of getting out of the group.

Re: Super Eagles - The Way Forward by Nihilist: 10:28pm On Jul 02, 2014
Keshi for me is too tactically naive, and his naïveté was woefully exposed at the WC this summer.

All the talk of being African champions amounts to nothing, as the tactical intelligence across the continent is shockingly bad, hence the African Champions were undressed by Spain with alacrity at the confederations cup, and stumbled into the round of 16 this World Cup, winning only 1 of the 4 games we played.

I slightly disagree with the idea that a lack of playing personnel might have been partially to blame for this mess...man to man, Nigeria had a better squad than Costa Rica for example, but the difference tactical approach is as clear as daylight.

Emenike's reluctance to hold up the play and limited aerial ability made him a liability up front, while his pace, power and penchant to run with the ball are attributes better suited to a winger, and it's pretty obvious that Emenike was at his most effective when he drifted to the right wing. Yet Keshi continued to field him as the No 9 and Osaze on the Flank

Similarly, against France Keshi effectively fielded a 442 with Moses occasionally dropping back to help his midfield. As soon as Onazi got taken out, the utter stewpidity of that approach was exposed when Keshi failed to stabilise the midfield with an extra midfielder.

These little things show that Keshi doesn't have what it takes to compete at global level.

Winning CAN is nothing to boast about really - only 2 African teams made it to the round of 16 and none to the quarters, and the lack of tactical intelligence across Africa makes the task relatively easy with half decent players.

Everything else OP said is spot on.

Keshi is very very very very useless though.

Bros;the SE belongs to each and every nigerian..not keshi alone..the problem most nigerians are having with keshi is his ability to issue blames on his players;"Ike uche doesnt plays to instructn;hence he's indiscipline"(mind you;he's the 1st coach to utter that);SE drew with Iran;he blamed osaze;SE lost against france;whch was due to his tactical deficiency;he blamed enyeama..keshi is clueless

MY BRODA THANK YOU O!!!!! Costa rica's squad cannot be compared to ours . They had a weaker team and they were in a group that had Uruguay , Italy and England yet they topped their group and then overcame a resilient Greece THANKS to their coach's tactical brilliance . We had a better squad than Costa rica and yet we had to rely on Bosnia to do us a favour in order to qualify from a group that had Bosnia, Argentina and IRAN !!!
