Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has said his team’s desire to reach the top four is acting as a motivation to help them bounce back from successive defeats. The Gunners have not qualified for the Champions League for two seasons now, and following a shock defeat at Southampton last weekend, trail fourth-placed Chelsea by three points. Emery told Sky Sports ahead of Arsenal’s game with Burnley, that reaching the top four is firmly in the mind of his team, with the Europa League also a potential route to qualification. He said: “Our results are good but we need more, tactically we need to continue working and improving, but we need time – today the difficulty for us is other teams are getting results and three points every week. “I trust in our works and our players, and if we continue improving in our way, and with another victory against Burnley, we can be near the best teams in the Premier League and also our mind is to go to the Champions League. “There’s two ways, we know it’s very difficult but if we continue to improve and with a big mentality, I think we can and we are going to try to do it.” http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/22/epl-unai-emery-reveals-arsenals-target-ahead-burnley-clash/

The All Progressives Congress(APC) has condemned the heckling of President Muhammadu Buhari by lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party, during the budget presentation on Wednesday. Publicity secretary of the APC , Malam Lanre Isa-Onilu said the disgraceful conduct and actions of PDP legislative caucus have succeeded in eroding the remnant of the public respect, that the Party has in the eyes of any respectable Nigerian. “The PDP has further confirmed its unsavoury image in the eyes of well meaning Nigerians, that the party is largely populated by self-serving and unpatriotic members, whose sole aim in politics is to promote their self interests at the expense of the country’s interests. “By law, respect for the office of the president or head of government in any clime is not a matter of choice but a civic obligation sanctioned by laws. Being an opposition party or critic is no licence for such wayward conduct by the PDP legislative caucus; most especially against the president of the country. “Not even the admonition of the President to the PDP lawmakers that “You are on international TV, comport yourselves. The world is watching us; we should be above this,” failed to calm the unruly PDP elements. “Nigerians are not oblivious of the actions and inactions of the National Assembly presiding officers, Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara while the President was being heckled by the PDP legislative caucus. Their failure to rein in their unruly PDP colleagues, while their show of shame lasted clearly confirmed that the PDP members’ action was premeditated and orchestrated to embarrass the President. “When the APC was in opposition, Nigerians will recall statements by the PDP government that the immediate-past President Goodluck Jonathan did not personally present the national budget to the National Assembly based on fears that he will be heckled and embarrassed by the opposition federal lawmakers at the time. The fears turned out to be misplaced as that never happened when Jonathan eventually presented the national budget. Such shameful and undignified practice has no place in our progressive ideology. “The PDP lawmakers and their conniving leaders have a lot of questions to answer. First, we wonder why they cannot stomach the evident and verifiable achievements of the APC-led Government in the areas of power, rail and road infrastructure, social intervention programmes as contained in the proposed budget.” The APC commends President Muhammadu Buhari for remaining calm and focused during the budget presentation despite the provocation from PDP lawmakers, an act of statesmanship that has been acknowledged by Nigerians. We are equally proud of the APC lawmakers, who stood firm in defence of the President and our great party during the budget presentation. We call on the National Assembly to rise above political and selfish interests by putting the country first in its consideration of the proposed N8.83 trillion 2019 national budget. The proposed budget provides a realistic and implementable framework that will spur the administration’s effort to achieve a a prosperous, strong and stable Nigeria. The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt to apprehend the killers of Angus Okoye, 48, a community leader in Isuanocha, Awka North Local Government Area of the state. The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Awka. Mohammed said the Dunukofia Police Division received a distress call on Sunday at about 9am that a middle aged man was found laying unconscious at the boundary between Isuaniocha and Nawgu village. He said: “Following the report, Police patrol team attached to Dunukofia Division visited the scene in conjunction with local vigilante group. “The victim was photographed and taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on arrival.” According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was allegedly kidnapped from his residence at Ifite Isu village, Isuaniocha in Awka North Local Government Area on December 15 at about 11:30pm. He said the victim was shot on the head and neck by his assailants and his Honda Pilot car with registration number Lagos FST430DM was abandoned. Mohammed said exhibits recovered at the scene included one expended cartridge and three empty shells from a pistol. The the corpse has since been deposited at the Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital morgue for postmortem. The Police spokesperson said increased patrols and surveillance were ongoing in the area to forestall possible breakdown of law and order in the community. The News Agency of Nigeria is reporting that the incident may not be unconnected with the recent crisis in Isuanoacha community over town union leadership crisis. The warring factions were, however, warned by the Police not to take laws into their hands. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/18/police-launch-manhunt-killers-anambra-community-leader/

The Federal Government has said that talks with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have so far been fruitful, expressing optimism that the ongoing strike by the university teachers, will soon be called off. According to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, this is predicated on the FG’s consideration of some of ASUU’s demands, including the submission of the union’s list of outstanding payments, and the identification of some areas in the universities in need of revitalisation as contained in the signed 2009 agreement. Ngige said: “There are areas that are still outstanding which we are going to address on the 17th. We have the issue of shortfall of salaries, that of some federal university workers. ASUU has given a list to the office of the Accountant General. “We agreed that by Wednesday that the list will be checked to find out really whether those universities were actually paid and they have to be visited and paid the outstanding lecturers there. So, the Accountant General’s office is to come back to us. “We have also the issue of Earned Academic Allowance and the issue of revitalisation. These are issues of 2009 agreement. We will look into the consideration and we have identified one area of the fund for revitalisation. “The federal government organs will be contacted and we do expect that we will have some words for ASUU. Same goes for the earned allowances. We will make sure that the issue of the outstanding amounts is handled in a way that all parties will be properly accommodated,” he said. Ngige revealed that during the talks, the quality of graduates from state-owned universities was brought to focus, with a view to upgrading the standard of education in order to meet with global standards. “We also discussed the issue of state universities and since education is on concurrent list, the universities should be properly funded and staffed, so that we do not produce half baked graduates from those universities. And towards realising that, the ministry of education will engage the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. The minister of education is taking steps towards that direction and will organise that interaction. “Engaging them directly and giving professional advice is what the ministry will do. These are some of the issues we discussed and to me; the discussions were fruitful. We want the children to go back to school,” he added. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/17/ASUU-strike-fg-reveals-students-will-return-class/

The pastor of a megachurch in South Carolina, United States has defended buying a $200,000 Lamborghini luxury car as gift for his wife on their eighth wedding anniversary. Pastor John Gray captured headlines over the weekend after an Instagram video taken of the moment he handed his wife the keys to the bow-wrapped “Lamborghini Urus” on Saturday went viral. Gray, who is the pastor of Relentless Church, later stressed online that he had purchased the vehicle for his wife, while rebutting critics who raised suggestions about whether he bought the car with church money. “God helped me to make my wife’s dream come true,” Gray said in an Instagram post on Tuesday. “Why not? She’s made mine come true!” He then addressed the matter in a video on Facebook Live on Thursday, in which he doubled down on his defence of the purchase and said “not a nickel, not a penny” of money from the church went to the gift. “First of all, it wasn’t a pastor that bought the car. It was a husband that bought the car,” Gray said in the video. “I’m a husband first. Don’t confuse what I do with who I am. What I do is I pastor God’s people. Who I am is a husband and a father and I’ll do anything to honour them. And I won’t ask permission from anybody to do it.” “My wife has pushed for my dreams and my vision, and she has toiled with a man who is still trying to find himself,” Gray continued. “That carries a weight. I wanted to honor her for how she’s covered me.” “What should concern people who are actually genuinely concerned is ‘did this man use any money from the church to do this?’ And the answer is no, absolutely not,” he continued. Some critics pointed to the pastor’s association with Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen, who once proclaimed, “It’s God’s will for you to live in prosperity instead of poverty.” Osteen has also captured flak for his lifestyle, including living in a $10.5 million mansion in River Oaks, according to the Houston Chronicle. However, other social media users supported Gray and his wife, Aventer Gray, and questioned why people were critical of the purchase given the pastor also has other forms of income. Gray’s wife also jumped to her husband’s defense on Instagram, mentioning a number of different projects her husband is currently involved in – including a reality show on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and his various book deals. “I don’t see anyone screaming about how basketball players drive what they do while you paying $$$ to see them play in arenas and on fields. We don’t live for people! We live for God!” she said in the post. (NAN) http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/16/pastor-buys-200000-lamborghini-car-wife/

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists and armed rubbers after a gun battle that left one of the suspects injured at Ogidi near Onitsha. The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Mohammed, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Akwa on Sunday, NAN reports. Mohammed said one fabricated pistol, three live cartridges, an axe, tramadol drugs and some quantities of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis were recovered from them. He said “On Dec. 14, at about 4pm, there was intelligence report at Ogidi Division that some suspected armed robbers/cultists were cited at Paradise Hotel, Ogidi brandishing dangerous weapons. “Following the report, police detectives attached to Ogidi division rushed to the scene and cordoned-off the area. “The gang on sighting the police locked the entrance of the hotel and engaged the police in fierce gun duel which lasted for more than thirty minutes. “The police responded, but with high restraint in order to avert innocent civilian casualties. “As a result, one of the suspects, Ugochukwu Okafor, sustained gunshot injuries on his buttocks while trying to disarm a police officer.” He said the arrested suspects included four males and two females while others were at large. He said that the injured male suspect had been taken to the hospital for treatment, promising that the command would continue investigations to arrest others. Meanwhile, the command has warned against the use of knock-outs, fire crackers and other forms of fireworks in the state during the Yuletide. Mohammed said such actions constituted serious security risks capable of misleading the security personnel on apparent danger of gunshots. He also expressed concern that it could instill fear in the minds of the residents of the state. “To this end, parents and guardians are advised to warn their children and wards from purchasing and using knockouts, as the law governing the sales, purchase and use of fireworks is still in force. “Members of the public are equally enjoined to refrain from unauthorised use of sirens, tinted glasses and covering of vehicles plate numbers,” he warned. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/16/six-arrested-police-suspected-cultists-exchange-bullets-near-onitsha/

Former governor of Osun State and chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the South-South geo-political, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has said that the situation of the party in Rivers State will make it difficult to defeat the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal recently declared that the APC does not have candidates for all elective positions for 2019 general elections in Rivers State. Speaking in Asaba where he led members of his committee to meet with stakeholders in the protracted factional crisis rocking the Delta State chapter of the party, Mr. Aregbesola expressed optimism that every other state in the South-South would be won by the APC in next year’s general elections. “We have no problems in my (Osun) state. With what I am seeing here today, I believe that the APC will form the next government of Delta State come May 29, 2019. I believe it will happen in Akwa-Ibom State; I believe it will happen in Cross River State and subsequently in Bayelsa State. I would have said Rivers State but I don’t want to be too optimistic,” Aregbesola said. He said from the progress recorded so far in the peace process in Delta APC, the party was on the threshold of victory, urging all stakeholders of the various groups, tendencies and factions of the party to be tolerant, and avoid re-opening healing wounds. “My joy is that we are all here today, and I see on the faces joy and air of expectation which is the first sign of victory in any political contest. Let this belief in success permeate our entire being. Delta State is for our party to take but we must accommodate each other and be ready to work together. “Any tension within a political canopy is a threat to victory. The junction which the party has reached in Delta State is very promising but the promise at this stage is threatened by the seeming differences within the party. I want to appeal to us to give peace a chance. “Success in next year’s general elections is directly proportional to how well you can stomach those things you want to put forward. If you are mature enough to tolerate one another, accommodate each other and be ready to work together then you have a bigger picture that will benefit all of us. “But if you insist on having your way on all issues, the acrimony it will bring up will be such that we on our own might scuttle and frustrate our chances of victory. You may not know, some of you have benefited from some government here but there cannot be any gain in a political process without victory. Victory is the crowning glory of all political processes, not defeat, not failure. “Even if you are not directly benefiting, the fact that your party is in power gives so much air of satisfaction that the way you walk in your neighborhood will be different. I pray that all of us benefit from the government that APC will form in Delta from May 29, 2019,” the former governor said. He said the outcome of various engagements between Delta APC members and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, showed that the crisis was on the brink of being resolved, adding that his committee would avoid the temptation of delving into new issues but would adopt the position of Prof. Osibanjo’s engagement with various groups and tendencies of APC in Delta State. At the meeting, representatives of the various tendencies made written submissions to the national reconciliation committee, with high propensity for compromise in order for peace to reign. However, one of the aggrieved governorship aspirants, Prof. Pat Utomi, whose position was delivered by a member of his campaign council, insisted on seeking legal redress for what he described as injustice meted on him. Other members of the committee including Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Governor Sani Bello of Niger State, Senator Gbemi Saraki, Dr. Emeka Wogu and Attahiru Maccido were also present at the meeting. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/16/2019-wike-difficult-apc-beat-rivers-aregbesola/

Following the detention of Doyin Okupe, former aide to immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, a group known as Patriotic Nigerians, has described his continuous detention as an allege attempt to silence the PDP chieftain. A statement signed by the group’s coordinator, Musa Muhammad, stated that despite willingly honouring the invitation of EFFC, Okupe who is the Media Adviser to the Director General of the PDP Presidential campaign has continued to be detained, which according to the group has a political undertone. The statement reads, “Dr. Doyin Okupe yesterday (Monday) honoured the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC at the Abuja headquarters of the anti-graft body. “Despite being patriotic and law-abiding enough to obey the invitation, it’s seems there is more to the invitation than meets the eye. “It is beginning to look like the anti-graft agency is on a political witch-hunt to silence the vociferous former presidential spokesperson, as it has been doing to every other active opposition figures in the nation. The group also accused the EFCC of inconsistency in the charges put up against Okupe, adding that his case has not been assigned to any of the commission’s lawyers for prosecution as required by the law. “Initially, EFCC claimed its invitation was based on cyber crime, but it has since shifted the goalpost in the middle of the game, changing the charges to misappropriation of arms fund claimed to have been released to him by former NSA, Colonel Sambo Dasuki. “Agreed that the EFCC has a case against Okupe, but it’s quite surprising that since his arrival at the EFCC headquarters, the agency has refused to assign his case to a lawyer for prosecution at the court. “It is obvious that the EFCC is deploying a delay tactics to keep Okupe in detention as it goes on Christmas break and keep him there till the New Year. “The nation is waiting for the abracadabra of EFCC,” the statement read. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/13/doyin-okupe-efcc-accused-of-trying-to-silence-ex-jonathans-aide/

No fewer than 500 political appointees and elected officials under the first and second term of the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ado Ekiti. The defectors, numbering 500 were the serving and former local government elected and appointed political officials of the former governor between 2003 -2007 and 2014-2018. The defectors were received on behalf of Governor Kayode Fayemi and the leadership of the party by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Adeniran Alagbada. They promised to work assiduously for the triumph of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential poll as well as working for the successes of other APC candidates for the state and federal legislative elections. Speaking at the event, Alagbada who decamped to APC prior to the July 14 governorship election, assured that the defectors will be treated with respect in the new party. He said the APC operates an open door policy, which places equality in ranks and opportunities between the old and new members. The Speaker added that all their outstanding severance allowances since 2003 will be paid in line with the promise made by Governor Fayemi. He said this was part of the reasons for the defection. “I have spoken with Governor Fayemi, he had assured me that he will put smile on your faces. You struggled hard under the PDP led government of Governor Fayose but nothing was done. “But we have a governor Fayemi who is responsive and responsible, he has listened to your plight and he was ready to fight for you. He is ready to pay your allowances in spite of the fact that you are members of opposition. “When I met the governor, he told me that whether you defect or not that he would pay and that he had instructed the council bosses to begin the processes that would fasttrack the payment. “Your defecting to APC only connotes that you believe in what Governor Fayemi has been doing. Within two weeks he assumed office, the governor abrogated the taxes being paid in state public and private primary and secondary schools and declared full free education up to secondary level. “This is the kind of governor we must be electing in Ekiti. A governor that knows how to empower his people , not the one that would pauperise and enslave them the way Fayose did”, he said. Speaking for the defectors, Kehinde Aduloju from Ado Local Government , said they were fascinated by Fayemi’s sterling leadership qualities to defect to the ruling party. He regretted that all their days in the PDP had not really brought any political dividends to them, alleging that all the promises made to them under the immediate past administration were not fulfilled. Aduloju said the APC would trounce the PDP in the next year’s election in the state, predicating this on the fact that those that matters in PDP have all decamped to the ruling party. “Today, bigwigs like Senator Raji Rasaki, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Hon Adeniran Alagbada, Gboyega Aribisogan, Sunday Akinniyi and many others are in APC. To us, PDP had become an empty camp with few relevant politicians to confront APC. “We have resolved that wherever Governor Fayemi goes we shall follow him. He is one governor that has listening ears, he is receptive to corrections and even criticism . “We have nothing to fear in APC because the way Prince Adeyeye was given the APC senatorial ticket few days after defection shows that APC remains a good party”, he stated. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/12/former-appointees-of-fayose-dump-pdp-join-apc/

A gubernatorial candidate on the platform of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Plateau State, General Jonathan Temlong (rtd), on Monday alleged that the incumbent Governor of the State, Simon Lalong, should be blamed for denying the Internally Displaced Persons access to the Victims Support Fund. He said the Governor had in different fora claimed that the state was peaceful; hence, didn’t approach the Victims Support Fund for assistance. Temlong made the disclosure while addressing journalists at the party secretariat in Jos, the State Capital. He said, “Many highly-placed Nigerians have been calling me that you are there what are you people doing that Plateau is suffering like this; and I said look I don’t have an entry point. “Even if I’m allowed to give advice, the person in power might not have to follow what I said. “So, if Governor Lalong is giving assurance after three and half to four years, that now he is going to return the IDPs to their ancestral homes, take it with a pinch of salt because elections are coming in two-three months time. “If there were no elections, he wouldn’t have thought of taking them back.” The retired Army General added that, “Let me tell you, out of shear concern, I approached the Victims Support Fund (VSF) because of the plight of our IDPs on the Plateau, and the answer I was given was that, your Governor said there is peace on the Plateau and there is no problem and he has not approach her for assistance. “So the Victims Support Fund is meant for victims, not just victims in the North-Eastern part of the country, but allover. “And I believe you people know the chairman of that fund, who is one of our illustrious sons, General TY Danjuma. “And there was no way he wouldn’t have assisted if Plateau had gone with a request and this number of IDPs that require support, because they are victims of crisis too, unfortunately nothing like that was done. “There are other well-meaning individuals, who have been intervening in the North-East and even Benue; they would have intervened here if we had a government that is responsive, a people centred government; foundations both within and outside this country would have come to our aid. “Even in constructing of the accommodation of the displaced persons”, he maintained. “Now if you give a dateline of December, 2018, how realistic is it? He asked. “The challenges of these IDPs are more than political statements, these are serious problems that deal with peoples lives and I’m well equipped, because I have the experience to tackle them. According to Temlong, who was the first Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force between 1998-1999, that restored the territorial integrity and civil administration in the Lake Chad Basin, “This is why my promise to put Plateau first to restore the dignity of Plateau State through a Citizen Centered Government is anchored on a three point agenda. “Which are security and sustainable peace, good governance and development.” He assured that all displaced persons would be returned to their ancestral homes and adequate security provided to protect them from experiencing the horrors they went through, if given the mandate come 2019. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/10/plateau-crisis-gov-lalong-accused-of-denying-idps-access-to-victims-support-fund/

Youths of the Lagos state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have warned the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Jimi Agbaje, to stop blackmailing and assassinating the character of a former governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a statement by its Organizing Secretary, Idris Aregbe on Sunday, the youths spoke in reaction to Agbaje’s campaign for “freedom for Lagos” during a youth roundtable meeting Saturday. Agbaje had hosted hundreds of Lagos youths where he among other things discussed the further development of the state. But in reaction, the APC youths said, “At this age and time in Nigerian politics, we can all campaign in peace without maliciously spreading falsehood about one another in a bid to create chaos in a peaceful state like Lagos. “I want to emphatically state here that no one is living in bondage. If you look at Lagos of today, Lagos is successfully competing with several other great cities of the world. “We are enjoying all these developments today because of one selfless man and that man is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his vision for Lagos. “We have also seen several PDP governors trooping to Lagos to acquire templates for governance and economic development, so tell me how are we in bondage? “We’ve seen lots of governorship candidates from other parties that have no single plan for Lagosians but will be looking for all means to dent the good image of a visionary like Asiwaju.” http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/09/2019-election-stop-assassinating-tinubus-character-lagos-youths-warn-agbaje/

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has reacted to claims that a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bolaji Tinubu, has refused to chair the campaign council of the party ahead of the 2019 general elections. Reports emerged during the week in some national dailies that the former Lagos State Governor rejected to serve the party in that capacity. But the APC, speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Isa-Onilu, allayed fears over Tinubu’s position. He told New Telegraph that there was no doubt that Tinubu remains committed to the party and that whatever stand he takes would be in the interest of the party. Onilu said, “I have not seen the report you are talking about, but in the first place, that could be a bit hypothetical as members of the campaign council have not been announced. “What you should be certain of, is that whatever position Asiwaju Bola Tinubu takes, as someone who has demonstrated uncommon leadership for this party, it must be in the best interest of the party. “So, if for any reason it is true that Asiwaju said he was not going to chair the campaign council, by the time you get the details, you will know he has taken the best decision. “As l said, l have not seen that report and l don’t know the reasons he gave and in any case appointments have not been announced as far as the council is concerned. “That is why l said it is hypothetical, but l am at peace and nobody in the party will lose sleep because they are certain that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is working 24/7 in the best interest of the party.” http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/08/2019-apc-speaks-on-tinubus-refusal-to-lead-its-campaign-council/

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), on Wednesday reiterated that there was no mass retrenchment plans in the establishment. Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, gave the assurance at a programme tagged ‘CS Connect’, organised by the Corporate Services Autonomous Business Units (ABU). In a keynote address at the event, Baru charged NNPC’s management and staff, to go about their duties and continue to give their best to the corporation and ignore the rumors of sack. The GMD explained that the recent retrenchment of some staff following the last management promotion exercise, was restricted to those who had been performing below par, stressing that “they were a disincentive to those remaining in the system and it was only appropriate to disengage them to allow some fresh air for others to rise.” Baru also harped on the need for staff to be law-abiding, resourceful and disciplined, and urged staff “to come up with innovative ideas and best-in-class practices to reposition the Corporation and sustain our pride of place in the national economy as we strive for global recognition.” http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/05/nnpc-speaks-on-mass-retrenchment-plans/

Doyin Okupe, a former aide to the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan, has declared as invalid the nomination of President Muhammadu Buhari as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2019 general elections. Okupe, a diehard supporter of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, stated this while responding to questions from journalists yesterday on the chances of the PDP and APC in 2019. Okupe, who has turned out to be a critic of the current government, also wondered why Buhari has refused to sign the Electoral Act amendment Bill. Okupe said, “Actions and activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are being dictated directly from the villa. “If that is not the case, by now if the INEC Chairman was a truly independent person, he ought to have conveyed message to APC and the villa that they do not have a candidate for the 2019 presidential election. “As of today, the nomination of President Buhari is not valid. To be nominated for an election, there are some conditions that must be met as provided by the Constitution and the Electoral Act. Number one, you must be a Nigerian. “Now, there are issues that were even confirmed by the President himself in Poland that there is doubt about his nationality, whether he is a Nigerian or a Sudanese. “As of today, the form submitted by Buhari to INEC does not contain a certificate. What he submitted is an affidavit with a false claim that his certificate is with the Army, who had sometime issued a statement that they are not in possession of any certificate of the president,” Okupe stated. “If I falsely swear to an oath that I am seven feet tall and measurement shows I am not that tall, I have simply committed perjury. “Buhari is not a candidate for 2019 presidential election and the facts speak for themselves. By the action of Buhari to have gone to WAEC for an attestation showed that he knew that his certificate was never with the military and he swore to an oath falsely. That itself is ground for disqualification of nomination of any candidate. “This is the truth and Nigerians needs to be aware of it, so that nobody creates crisis in 2019. Head or tail, Atiku will be President of Nigeria in 2019.” http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/05/2019-why-buharis-nomination-as-presidential-candidate-is-invalid-okupe/

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has named the Reds defender, Virgil van Dijk and Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte as the best two centre-backs in the English Premier League, EPL. Van Dijk and Laporte have been outstanding so far for their clubs this campaign. Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton last January, while Laporte joined City from Athletic Bilbao. “I think Van Dijk is brilliant. I think he’s the best centre-back in the Premier League and I also think Aymeric Laporte at Man City has been brilliant since he came in,” Carragher told TalkSport “Forget his actual position; when you think of maybe the best top ten players you think of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah, David De Gea and Eden Hazard as well. “I think Van Dijk is actually in that group of players. He’s so good in his position that I think, at this moment in time, he’s up there with the best names in the world. “In that position, I always believe if you get rated that highly, you’ve got to back it up with trophies. He got to a Champions League final but you think of the centre-backs who’ve played for Barcelona and Real Madrid over the years. There’s Champions League wins, there’s also some World Cup winners there. “I think you need a few medals to be able to say that, but at the moment, is there a centre-back in the world playing better than Virgil van Dijk is doing now? If there is one, I haven’t seen him.” http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/12/01/epl-jamie-carragher-names-two-best-defenders-in-premier-league/

The preferred governorship candidate of the Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, Adekunle Akinlade, has defected to the Allied People’s Movement (APM). The defection of Akinlade, who represents Egbado South and Ipokia federal constituency of Ogun, was announced at the House of Representatives on Thursday. Three other members of the lower legislative chamber also moved to other parties. They are Rabiu Kaugama from Jigawa, who moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Salisu Koko from Kebbi who also joined APC but from SDP and Mohammed Ajanah from Kogi who defected from APC to PDP. Akinlade had lost the governorship ticket of the APC to Dapo Abiodun despite all effort put in place by the state Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, to make him secure it. Following the controversies which trailed the primaries, Amosun had said he was under pressure to leave the ruling party. However, he pledged loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari, promising to work for his re-election. He later lampooned the leadership of the ruling party and vowed to hand over to Akinlade in 2019. Apparently as a result of the crisis in the party, Amosun was the only south-west governor absent when Isiaka Oyetola was sworn in as governor of Osun state on Tuesday. Akinlade’s defection comes two days after Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state, who lost out in his bid to secure APC governorship ticket for Uche Nwosu, his preferred candidate, said he would not stop Nwosu from joining another party. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given parties up till December 1 to substitute candidates for governorship and state houses of assembly elections. http://mcebiscoo.com/2018/11/29/ogun-2019-amosuns-preferred-governorship-candidate-akinlade-dumps-apc-for-apm/
