The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has arrested a 45-year-old prophet (name withheld) for allegedly issuing fake NSCDC appointment letters to job seekers in Ondo State.

The commandant of NSCDC in the state, Mr Pedro Awili, disclosed this while parading the suspect along with others, arrested for various crimes on Friday in Akure.

Awili, according to NAN, said that the suspect was arrested at Iju in Iju/Itaogbolu Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the prophet had issued about 50 of such fake letters in conjunction with his accomplice, name withheld, now at large.

According to him, the suspect is a pastor in charge of a parish of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in the same local government area.

He said that the command had recovered about 50 appointment letters from the “prophet” and another suspect.

The commandant said they issued the fake letter to the unsuspecting members of the public after collecting N200, 000 to N300, 000 each from them.

“We are using this opportunity to tell Nigerians that NSCDC is not recruiting; anything you see on social media about this is a scam.

“Also, NSCDC Commandant-General has on several media, the electronic and print, informed the people of this country that NSCDC is not recruiting, even up till now,” he said.

The commandant said that the suspect would soon be charge to court.

Speaking to newsmen, one of the suspects, who claimed to be a prophet of a Celestial Church of Christ, (CCC) Ayomikun Parish, Iju said, denied issuing letters to members of the public regarding recruitment by NSCDS in the state.

He said it was another Pastor that issued the letters.

The suspect said that it was the said pastor that requested him to give him his bank account number that someone wanted to send money to him through it.

“One person paid N130, 000 and later paid N120, 000, while his friend paid N200, 000 into my account on behalf of the pastor and asked them to collect their letters from me,“ he said.

The “prophet“ said when the money was paid into his account, the said pastor sent one account number to him, through which he forwarded the money to him.

“I later discovered that the account number belongs to his wife”.

Spokesperson of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Festus Keyamo has reacted to the purchasing of presidential nomination form for President Muhammadu Buhari by a group.

A group known as the Nigerian Consolidation Ambassadors Network, NCAN, on Wednesday purchased the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential nomination form for Buhari yesterday.

NCAN purchased the nomination form at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the rate of N45m.

Reacting to the purchase of the form, Keyamo, in a tweet, wrote: “Congrats to NCAN group that beat other groups to purchase d Nomination Form for PMB.

“Officially, there were more than 100 PMB groups rushing to Abuja in a fierce race to purchase d Form. Some rice farmers was one of such groups. As the trendsetters would say ‘na dem dey rush us!.”

A House of Reps aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Bogoro, Dass and Tafawa-Balewa constituency, Barrister Gashion Danna, has bemoaned the penchant of desperate politicians to buy votes during elections in the country.

This was as he took President Muhammadu Buhari to task over the rate of insecurity in the country, particularly in the Middle-Belt.

Speaking with DAILY POST in Bauchi, the aspiring Reps member stated that the vote buying witnessed in the recently held Ekiti governorship poll and Bauchi bye-election is worrisome and detrimental to the survival of democracy in Nigeria.

“Unless INEC and security agents exist independently, vote buying will not be discouraged come 2019 elections because agents of the ruling party operate with impunity and buy votes which is against the electoral law,” he said.

Danna regretted that such practices have negative effect and constitute a calculated attempt to deny credible persons, especially the youth, an opportunity to stand for elections.

He however cautioned the PDP against playing the politics of god-fatherism, urging the party to learn from the 2015 election which it lost to the APC.

Danna came hard on Buhari over series of killings under his watch, saying that, “the killings under APC administration justify that Buhari is not in firm control of the nation’s security apparatus”.

He stated that under the Buhari administration, Nigerians were now more divided along religious, tribal and cultural lines.

Festus Keyamo, the Director of Media for the President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation has reacted to the war of words between Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Atiku Abubakar on restructuring of Nigeria.

Osinbajo on Tuesday in reaction to a statement credited to Atiku faulting his stance on the restructuring of Nigeria said the problem of Nigeria was not geographical restructuring but prudent management of national resources.

The Vice President insisted that restructuring in “whatever shape or form, will not mean much if our political leaders see public resources as an extension of their bank accounts.”

However, Atiku again replied Osinbajo insisting that restructuring is a necessity, not an option.

He warned the the vice president not to attempt to reverse history by saying that he spoke against “geographic restructuring”.

But, Speaking on the development, Keyamo queried why the clamour for restructuring was not mentioned while Atiku was in office as the Vice President.

In a post on his Twitter page, Keyamo wrote: “Some who pretend to be champions of restructuring today never mentioned an alphabet of that word when they were in office.

“Instead of restructuring Nigeria, they were rather struggling to restructure their Party in order to take control of it so as to become President of Nigeria.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said although it agreed with President Muhammadu Buhari that illegal migration is a crime, the party disagreed with the president's recent statement on illegal migrants.

Recall that Mc Ebisco reported that President Buhari, during a meeting with German chancellor, Angela Merkel, said Nigerians leaving the country illegally are doing so at their own risks.


The opposition party, PDP, while reacting to the statement said the president could have been more kind to the plight of Nigerians seeking greener pastures.

The party's national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said: “Is it not disturbing to Mr. President that reports by Nigerian Immigration Services showed that more Nigerians have been trapped in detention and slave camps in various parts of the world?"

Guardian reports that PDP said it is the president’s duty, as elected leader of government, to pursue the fundamental human rights of his citizens, as well as find solution to the problems pushing Nigerians to adopt illegal migration, irrespective of the huge risks, as option for survival.

Mc Ebisco earlier reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is committed to mitigating the migration crisis Nigerians are facing, particularly in Libya and in the Mediterranean sea.

Rumours of Governor Akinwumi Ambode from the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) made headlines on some news channels last week.

The Lagos State governor, was reported to have been in a closed door meeting with his political aides and executive council members to take a crucial decision as to whether to remain in the APC or forge ahead with another party, as the primaries draw nearer.

It was reported also that Ambode may want to leave the party because Bola Tinubu, the party’s national leader and a former governor of Lagos may have withdrawn his support from Ambode’s re-election bid. The reports claim that Ambode might move to the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) or Action Democratic Congress(ADC), both of which are part of the Coalition of Political Parties(CUPP).

However, Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on new media has said the Lagos State governor has debunked such claims.

According to Ahmad, when he told Ambode that rumours of his defection were rift on social media, the governor said ‘I’m here in Beijing in president Buhari’s entourage. ‘

REPORTS emerged yesterday that at least 30 soldiers were killed during a battle with suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

But the report carried by an international news agency, Agence France Presse, AFP, has been countered by the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole.

The report had claimed that troops deployed in Zari town, Guzamali Local Government Area of the state, came under attack on Thursday, leading to the ugly development.

The media report, which quoted military sources, read:”At least 30 Nigerian soldiers were killed in combat with Boko Haram jihadists who overran a military base in the northeast near the border with Niger.

“Scores of jihadists in trucks stormed the base at Zari village, in northern Borno State, late Thursday, and briefly seized it after a fierce battle in which 30 soldiers were killed.

Reacting to the report in a telephone interview, spokesman for Theatre Command, Operation Lafiya Dole, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, while confirming the attack, denied that the Army suffered casualties.

According Colonel Nwachukwu, contrary to the report, several of the terrorists were killed by the military troops just as he said the terrorists’ equipment were captured.

Hear him: “That information is not correct. It’s true that we had an encounter with Boko Haram at a location called Zari. The Boko Haram came to attack that community, and our troops deployed few kilometres away from the location, countered the attack.

“The ground troops were supported by the Air Task Force, and several Boko Haram Terrorists were killed, and we also destroyed many of their equipment, weapons.

“On our side, I’m yet to receive casualty figure on my desk, if there was any. So, I cannot confirm that we had (any) and I think it’s very untrue for anyone to (say we had that casualty figure).”

He said a statement was earlier issued by the command to the effect.

The statement, which was signed by the DAPR, had read: “Troops… have successfully routed Boko Haram insurgents in an encounter that ensued yesterday (Thursday) evening at Zari village in Guzamali Local Government Area of Borno state.

“The insurgents were on rampage to loot the community and extort money from villagers but met with a fierce resistance by the troops who were supported by the Air Task Force.

“Several members of the Boko Haram fighters were neutralized and weapons destroyed during the encounter.

“Zari village and the surrounding communities have been stabilized and normalcy restored. The troops have also been reinforced to conduct more robust fighting patrol in the general area.

“The people of Guzamali and Mobar communities and indeed the entire good people of Borno State are urged to remain calm, resilient and supportive of Operation Lafiya Dole, as the troops relentlessly fight terrorism and insurgency in the North East.”

It was gathered that the same location had come under attack just recently.

“The attack took place on Thursday, at Zari in Damasak. That was the same location that some people were dislodged; that was the place that some of them ran to.

“It’s elements of 2 Division Nigerian Army that went for this Operation Last Hold. They were deployed in Zari, Damasak,” a source said.

Head Coach of the U-20 Women National Team, Chris Danjuma, has dispelled reports claiming that players and officials of his team were not paid their entitlements before and during the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals in France.

Danjuma led the Falconets to a quarter-finals berth at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France

“I see this as a silly, mischievous story. I have spoken to my assistants and backroom staff and they all denied talking to the reporter,” Danjuma said in a media statement released by the media department of the Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday.

“We were paid our entitlements for the camping in Austria and at the FIFA World Cup, and no money was lost as claimed in the story.”

“From the very first day I saw the reporter in our camp prior to our departure to the final training camp in Austria, I observed he was a very funny figure just looking for negative stuff to report.

“It is unfortunate that some persons commit their lives to trying to cause mischief and trouble wherever they see there is peace.

“We had been paid our entitlements before the sports minister came. I am aghast at what the reporter was out to achieve. Was the reporter in Austria with the team to ascertain we were suffering?”

“No member of the Falconets’ technical crew or the playing body has any negative thing to say about the NFF. They did their very best for us and supported the team at each point during the qualifying series, the training camp and the FIFA World Cup.”

The Falconet’s team administrator, Modupe Shabi, expresses shock at the claim in the said report that Head of Women’s Football, Ruth David, misplaced the sum of Euro10,000.

Cairo: The Egyptian Army on Wednesday said that 20 militants have been killed over the past few days in anti-terror raids in Sinai province and the Western Desert region.

In Sinai, the forces have killed 13 militants, destroyed 18 hideouts and captured 18 wanted suspects, according to Egyptian military spokesman Tamer al-Refai.

The forces have also defused 41 explosive devices and destroyed 49 vehicles used by militants and smugglers, Xinhua quoted the spokesman as saying.

The raids are part of the “Sinai 2018” comprehensive anti-terror operation, which has killed more than 400 militants since its launch in February, with more than 30 soldiers losing their lives during the confrontations.

Eligible voters, who had collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Cross River State, were on Monday given free petrol and kerosene by Ben Ayade, Governor of the state.

Many residents besieged the area to partake in the distribution, which took place at the old Zoo Botanical Garden in Calabar.

People were seen rushing to the venue with their PVCs, while those who were yet to collect theirs, went with the temporary voter cards.

The event was conducted under the aegis of Ayade’s Special Assistants Network (SAN), and residents were allowed to choose which to receive. Many motorists opted for petrol. According to Daily Trust, the move was to encourage eligible voters to register before the August 31 deadline.

Governor Ayade said it was a way of encouraging all eligible voters in the state to register and obtain their PVCs before the extended deadline by the INEC expires on August 31, 2018.

Each PVC holder chose either to receive kerosene or fuel. Many motorists settled for the 10 litres of fuel each for their cars or commercial buses. Ayade encouraged the electorate to ensure that they persevered in order to get themselves registered and also obtain their PVCs.
