The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has rejected the governorship primary election conducted on Monday by the Electoral Committee constituted by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). DAILY POST had reported that Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso’s son in-law, Abba Kabir Yusuf emerged as PDP governorship candidate in the primary election. However, the State Chairman of the party, Sen. Mas’ud Doguwa, described the election which was conducted by the committee headed by Ezeogu Emeka-Onuaha as null and void. Doguwa explained that they had been in the PDP for quite some time and were conversant with the technicalities involved in conducting primary elections. “With this attitude of impunity of enforcing candidates on members of the party, the national leadership of the party is doing nothing but paving way for the All progressives Congress (APC) to win elections in Kano State,” NAN quoted him as saying. He added that a court had ordered that the party’s caretakers were operating illegally, yet they went ahead and conducted the governorship primaries, saying members of the party would not accept such illegality The chairman, therefore, urged the National leadership of the party to ensure justice and fairness for the survival of the party in the state. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/10/pdp-rejects-kwankwasos-son-in-law-as.html

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a Lagos governorship aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has responded to claims made by the state Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, during his world press conference on Sunday. Sanwo-Olu, in a statement sent to DAILY POST, called for respect and insisted that “my pursuit of office will continue to be based upon issues that matter to Lagosians and not on attacks against someone’s character, even when he attack mine”. He also stated that he has forgiven Ambode ahead of Monday’s primary and “hopes he regains his balance and proper comportment no matter the outcome of tomorrow’s contest”. The full statement read: “Let it be heard by all that I hold the people of Lagos state with great respect and affection. Their welfare is my utmost concern and it is what drives my pursuit for the governorship nomination of the APC. As such, I also hold the office of governor of our state in high esteem. I shall never consciously do anything that will undermine the dignity of the office nor will I engage in personal attacks against the holder of that officer. My pursuit of office will continue to be based upon issues that matter to Lagosians and not on attacks against someone’s character, even when he attack mine. For anyone to engage in unwarranted character attacks against me, reveals more about that person’s character than it says about mine. “Thus, I felt sad for Lagos as I watched Press Conference by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. Many things he said was beneath the dignity of our people and the exalted office he now holds. Perhaps the tension and anxiety of the moment got the better of him. If given a chance at cooler reflection of what he said, I am sure he would regret his descent into such low conduct. In this vein, I forgive him and hope he regains his balance and proper comportment no matter the outcome of tomorrow’s contest. After all, we are both here to improve Lagos not to wrestle in its streets. “However, I must clear up some inaccuracies in the Governor’s statement. His allegation of that I was arrested for spending fake dollars at a night club in the United States was untrue. In fact, the governor knows I travelled to the United States just last month. I would not have been allowed to travel or even get a visa if I had been involved in what the Governor falsely alleged. “That the Governor claimed I underwent some unidentified type of “rehabilitation” at the Gbagada General Hospital was also shameless and untrue. Promulgation of salacious rumor should not be part of the job description of a governor. This is not the stuff of high office. People should question whether itis ethically right for the Governor to turn what should beconfidential medical information about a citizen into a weapon of political warfare? But for avoidance of doubt, let it be stated that I never received any treatment whatsoever at the Gbagada General Hospital. “Today, instead of making a convincing defense of his performance, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode sought to sow fear into the hearts of Lagosians. “But Lagosians are an intelligent and brave people. They can see through the smoke and the fog. I am here not to tear my opponent down but to help build Lagos up. With me, you will hear about progress on education, health, sanitation, proper tax levels, economic development, infrastructure, jobs, public services and other things that enhance the lives of people. I am a serious person and this primary is a serious matter. I have not the time or inclination to attack character when there are so many real issues to address. “We will continue to focus on the issues that matter in the lives of the people of Lagos. Lagosians want an answer to the sanitation crisis cast loss of jobs caused by Mr. Ambode’s Visionscape misadventure. Our people will want to know why Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has not been able to build a single General Hospital in the State when his immediate predecessor Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) built 11 General Hospitals. Lagosians are waiting to hear what our solutions are. They want to know why hundreds of competent civil servants got summarily dismissed and how this has undermined public services. “As a candidate for the party’s nomination and hopefully as your next governor, my approach will not be to sling insults but to propose solutions to the problems of the day.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/lagos-apc-primary-sanwo-olu-fires-back.html

A former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, on Friday insisted that he will defeat ex-Governor of Kano State and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential aspirant, Rabiu Kwankwaso, during the party’s primary election. Bafarawa, a PDP presidential aspirant explained that he will defeat Kwankwaso due to the latter’s inability to deliver on his promises to the people of the state. Addressing PDP delegates in the state, Bafarawa said Kwankwaso didn’t perform as Kano governor. He said, “There is no reason whatsoever to see some certain party elders fighting each other through media, such can destabilize our collective unity and chances to defeat ruling APC. “All such noise and threat among party leaders across board are meant to create disunity by some of whom are not happy with our current success in the country. “I am not afraid, I will never see any of the aspirants as a threat to get our party ticket, I will surely defeat and secure the mandate. “My reasons, why I said I will beat Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso both in Kano and also at the Presidential primaries hands down, are just simply because he did not perform. “What he promised to deliver to the people was not achieved, because the people did not see it on the ground. So beating him is just as simple as ABC.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/pdp-presidential-primaries-kwankwaso.html

Families of the victims of C-130 Hercules Air Force plane crash which occurred 26 years ago has appealed to the Nigerian Armed Force to make good its promises and improve on the welfare of widows and children of the fallen heroes. LEDADERSHIP reports that the C-130 plane, which had 158 passengers onboard and crashed at Ejigbo canal in Lagos three minutes after its take off in 1992. Speaking during the interdenominational service at the National Cemetery yesterday in Abuja, the President C-130 Armed Forces Widows Foundation International said many states have not fulfilled the promises made to the families in terms of welfare and provision of accommodation. The wife of late Maj. Markus Pinda, Mrs Hadiza lamented that some of the children who were born immediately after the unfortunate incident are not captured in the plan and called on the military to include children of women who were pregnant during the incident. “Today is the 26th anniversary of our husband’s demise, it has not been easy but God has been our strength and pillars. “The challenges have been enormous; the military sponsor some of the students, but for some of us they stopped half way. “At that period, some of the widows were pregnant, they now have children that are 25 years old and none of them are under the scholarship,” she said. Hadiza added that some states are yet to provide accommodation to the widows as earlier promised. Speaking further, she called on the military to reduce collateral damage on soldiers as no soldier wants to go to war and die but rather to return home to his families. “The country has been in conflict so there are many widows now, we don’t want the younger widows to go through the stress we went through. “The army should try and reduce collateral damage on the military, nobody wants to go to war and die. Everybody wants to go to war and return to his family,” she said. Mrs Stella Onabolu commended the Navy for taking responsibility of the children’s school fees. Mrs Onabolu, however, lamented that other benefits such as housing, car and other entitlements are yet to be given to them. Some children of the deceased who spoke to LEADERSHIP said they were not aware if the government was doing anything to better their lives. Ngozi Okoroji, Salamatu Bashir Daranijo and Dupe Agoji said they grew up without a father but they have come to pray for their souls. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/26-years-after-widows-of-c-130-crash.html

There are strong indications of crisis in the camp of former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kwankwasiyya group) in Kano State as the immediate past deputy governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar has decided to contest for the governorship seat of the state despite the unilateral nomination of Kwankwaso’s son in-law, Hon. Abba Kabir Yusuf for the same position. The immediate past deputy governor of Kano State picked the nomination form of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for 2019 governorship elections against the wishes of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwassiya movement. Already, Professor Hafiz Abubakar is the fifth person to pick the gubernatorial form of the PDP apart from Kwankwaso’s son-in-law, Abba Kabir Yusuf. Other aspirants that picked the form of the PDP in Kano, include Ibrahim El -Amin Little who was supposed to be Ganduje’s new deputy governor during a collapsed deal, Malam Salihu Sagir Takai, a former loyalist to Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and eldest son of Ambassador Aminu Wali, Sadiq Wali among others. According to LEADERSHIP findings, Professor Abubakar picked the form at the PDP national headquarters, Wadata Plaza Abuja, thereby allegedly defying his boss, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. It is believed that Abubakar’s decision is likely to bring him into direct conflict with Kwankwaso who had already endorsed his son-in-law, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to contest as a sole candidate for the PDP governorship position. Kwankwaso had slated Abubakar and another contender Salihu Sagir Takai to vie for the Senate seats of Kano Central and Kano South respectively. He told journalists in an impromptu news conference in Kano last weekend that he preferred Yusuf to be the next governor of the state because he was “more competent than the others”, and that “he was hurt by Abdullahi Ganduje’s failure to continue with the uncompleted projects left behind.” “The first Commissioner of Works we appointed was not up and doing but when we appointed Abba as Commissioner, we accomplished all the mega projects we set out to do in Kano,” he said. However, a source said the former deputy governor decided to challenge Kwankwaso’s position that only Yusuf can perform effectively as Kano governor, adding that the Kwankwassiya group is now factionalised as a result of this development. “Kwankwasiyya is now divided. There is Kwankwasiyya Amana and there is Kwankwasiyya ‘Surikiyya.’ Those who believe Kwankwasiyya as an ideology is beyond Kwankwaso’s family are gradually breaking away. “I can tell you, the Kwankwasiyya ‘Surikiyya’ camp will be replete with sycophants with no political value,” the source said. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/kano-ex-deputy-gov-dares-kwankwaso.html

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is yet to agree on a venue for its party’s presidential primaries scheduled for October 6. The party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Working Committee (NWC) different positions became evident at the inauguration of the party’s National Convention Planning Committee on Monday in Abuja. This followed a sharp disagreement between the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Sen. Walid Jibrin, and the NWC. Inaugurating the committee, PDP Deputy National Chairman (South) Elder, Yemi Akinwonmi, said that the party leaders had consulted widely on the venue and agreed for Port Harcourt, Rivers. “On the issue of venue, the party set up a committee headed by Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure and they went round the South-South Zone and South-East Zone before coming out with the choice of Port Harcourt for us”, NAN quoted him as saying. “As in acceptance, the National Working Committee (NWC) has consulted widely with the PDP Governors forum, we have consulted widely with the BOT, caucus of the party and today it has been jointly accepted that we will converge on Port Harcourt, in no distance time for the National Convention.” Akinwonmi added that the international community had expressed their interests in the party primaries. “Particularly, they want to come and watch the process that will lead to the emergency of our flag bearer, because by the grace of God our candidate will be the next President of Nigeria.” However, Jibrin, in his remarks said that the party had yet to make final decision on the choice of venue for the convention. “Even though the Deputy Chairman said the issue of venue had been concluded, I want to say that the issue of venue is still on and is not concluded. “Because there are many suggestions on the issue of venue. We look at all suggestions and I assure you that the issue of venue will be resolved. “But for now, we are working round the clock to ensure that we have a very suitable venue accepted by everybody. “I want to say that every one of us should come together and ensure that we have a venue suitable to all of us.” Speaking, secretary of the convention committee and Ebonyi Governor, Dave Umahi, said “I think the working committee and the BOT need to settle this.” Chairman of the convention committee, Ifeanyi Okowa, also speaking on the matter said PDP was ready to host the convention in any state eventually agreed on. “I believe that at the end of the day, nobody will have any cause to complain. “We do understand that the assignment that you have given us is about the most important assignment in the history of this party at least for this year. “All of us believe that the only way forward is for the entirety of the party to stay united and focused. And as such, as members of the PDP, we cannot afford to disagree on any issues. “The thing that is needed is for a free and fair primary to be conducted for all our aspirants. And we are very definite that we will get it right.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/pdp-leadership-divided-over-venue-for.html

Popular stand-up comedian, Francis Agoda, popularly known as I Go Dye, has reacted to the declaration of the Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State as ‘inconclusive’ by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The comedian described the inconclusiveness of the poll as “nothing but a rape on our democracy” According to him, Osun State election may be a testimony of what may likely happen in 2019. He told Vanguard, “Going by global democratic trend, the will of the people cannot be subverted. Let no one assume the knowledge of superiority against the truth. It shall backfire. “The present election is a testimony or test of what may likely happen in 2019.We don’t need to win at all times. There should be a time to learn how to do things right. “However, I call on Osun people to be law abiding and allow justice to take its course. How will INEC justify the fact that with the high number of security operatives present, there were still cases of irregularities? “This is a slap on our democracy and should not be encouraged at all. “What is inconclusive? Is nothing but a rape on democracy and our sensitivity as a people.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/osun-decides-this-is-slap-on-our.html

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has thanked all members of the party for their support. With the exception of Omisore, who secured 128,049 votes, no other candidate came close to the top two – Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party and Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress. Adeleke led the race with 254,698 votes, 353 votes more than Oyetola. The margin was, however, less than the 3,498 votes in the polling units where voting was cancelled. Consequently, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Afuape, declared the poll inconclusive. Omisore, in a statement issued on Sunday, insisted that although the party might appear to have lost the election, he believes it has won a ‘greater victory’. “The past four months have been very exciting. I am delighted that our message of good governance and dignity has reached every corner of the state. “Over the past four months, I have worked with committed people who have given time and resources to our shared agenda for restoration. I am confident that while we might appear to have lost an election, we have won the greater victory; the clarion calls by all our people for good governance and accountability. “We have positively impacted on electoral campaigns and elections in Osun state promoting inclusion, people-centeredness and shied completely away from vote buying, voter intimidation and thuggery,” Omisore said. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/osun-decides-omisore-finally-reacts-as.html

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the resignation of Kemi Adeosun from office as Minister of Finance. However, the party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Adeosun for forging her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Exemption Certificate in addition to alleged impropriety and abuse of office as minister. The party also raised the alarm of plots by the Federal Government to secretly move Adeosun out of the country following her resignation. The statement reads in part, “The party invites Nigerians to note that President Muhammadu Buhari, whose administration has become notorious for shielding its many fraudulent and corrupt officials, could not summon the rectitude to sack Mrs. Adeosun, adding that she would have still been in office, if not for the sustained uproar by Nigerians and international creditors. “Our investigations reveal that the Federal Government, which earlier made efforts to defend Mrs. Adeosun, has already perfected a plot to help her to evade prosecution following fears that she could open up on the humongous corruption going on in the financial sector under the Buhari administration. “The PDP is also aware of plots by the Federal Government to secretly move her out of the country, and for that, we urge the international community to be at alert and ensure she is repatriated to face justice in Nigeria should the Federal Government succeeds in its devious plan. “Furthermore, we are also aware that President Buhari was not by any measure prepared to drop her from his cabinet but for the demand by those responsible for her appointment, who protested her continued stay in office, although for their own selfish gains. A case of corruption fighting back! “The PDP therefore demands an immediate open inquest into the records of the Finance Ministry under Mrs. Adeosun, to unravel all improprieties by the Buhari Presidency cabal, including alleged diversion of oil proceeds, fraudulent oil subsidy deals, leading to high fuel price; depletion of our foreign reserves, embezzling of funds retuned by Switzerland and other huge sleazes in the ministry. “The party also insists that President Buhari must be held responsible for all infractions in the finance ministry under Adeosun, as he appointed and retained her despite having information on the certificate forgery; a situation that confirms the decadence and lack of due diligence in the Buhari Presidency. “Nigerians already know that the Buhari Presidency is a citadel of iniquity with inherent proficiency in stealing, forgery and manipulation of processes. This perhaps explains why President Buhari has not relieved his Special Assistant on Prosecution and Chairman of the Special Investigative Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla of his appointment in spite of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) confirmation that he forged his Secondary School Certificate. “Is it not clear to all that the Buhari administration’s so-called anti-corruption war and purported integrity are mere orchestrations to hoodwink Nigerians and the international community, while Mr. President oversees the most corrupt administration in the history of our nation? http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/pdp-wants-kemi-adeosun-arrested-accuses.html

Today, 25 coaches are closer to the dream as they have been shortlisted from eight different countries putting them a step closer to the taste of success. Dreams and the fire of hope that power us to achieve them is the honey that gives life its taste. For over 700 youth football coaches across Africa, a dream to be more for their players started by filling in the WorldRemit “Future Stars” application form for a once in a lifetime opportunity to train alongside seasoned coaches from Arsenal Soccer Schools in London. Today, 25 coaches are closer to the dream as they have been shortlisted from eight different countries putting them a step closer to the taste of success. For the 2018 Future Award initiative, of the 25 coaches shortlisted by public vote, Uganda emerged with 2 coaches: Musema Faruk and Douglas Smith. The “Future Stars” programme, a first of its kind initiative to empower local African youth football coaches to better serve their young players was conceived by WorldRemit with the ethos of their business at heart: giving back to the community. As the leading international digital money transfer service platform that allows migrants and expats to send funds back home to develop their native communities, it only seemed right to run a programme that involved giving back - and what better way to do it than through the one sport that unites cultures irrespective of borders. Within only a single week, over 700 applications were in, speaking to the importance of why these sort of initiatives need to happen more often across fields. Ivan Kanyali, Country Manager for WorldRemit in Uganda said: “The high volume of entries we received from Uganda is a clear indication of the importance of youth football coaching and the vital role of sport in the community. We see the strength of the entries from Uganda as a very promising sign for the country’s future. Like these coaches, our customers are helping to build a better future for others. Our goal is to make it easier for them to do so. Following their example, we hope to use opportunities like our partnership with Arsenal to have a positive impact on communities across the globe.” The shortlisted 25 coaches now face a panel of judges who will further reduce the selection to five finalists before being featured on the futurestars.worldremit.com website where voting for the eventual winner will again be open to the public in the last week of September. Arsenal is waiting! Simon McManus of Arsenal Soccer Schools said: “Football has the power to bring communities together, and through our relationship with WorldRemit we can really inspire confidence and encourage positive social change. We pride ourselves on excellence in all we do and we were very impressed with how strongly the commitment to outstanding coaching was reflected by Ugandans. The work these participants have already done in developing their coaching shows the immense potential of coaching in Uganda. The standard of entries was very impressive, making this a real challenge for the judges. We are eagerly anticipating the final results and look forward to welcoming the successful coach to London.” Ugandans in the Future Stars shortlist Douglas Smith from Ibanda, Western Region A founder and coach at Ibanda Young Stars Soccer Academy, Douglas is a strong believer in the power of football to bring about social change. Since the academy was founded in March 2017, more than 200 children have been involved in its programs, and Douglas was recently nominated in the Outstanding Sports Personality category of the 2018 Young Achievers Awards in Uganda. If he were to win a training session with Arsenal coaches, he would use the opportunity to network and learn from the Arsenal Soccer Schools coaches and shine a spotlight on his young players from the villages of Ibanda. Musema Faruk from Gulu, Northern Region Musema is an inclusive sports coach for children with disabilities at GDPU (Gulu Disabled Persons Union). With a passion for sports, Musema developed a proposal for sports coaching sessions when he joined GDPU, which was funded for two years by USAID (U.S. Agency for International development). He currently teaches football for under 13 and under 16 teams with hearing difficulties, helping them to hone their football skills as well as build their self-esteem. If he were to win a training session with Arsenal coaches, Musema would share what he had learnt with other coaches in his community to enrich the quality of their coaching. He would also use the opportunity as a platform to share his experience of working with children with disabilities. About WorldRemit WorldRemit is changing the way people send money. Daughter of afro-beat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has said she dislikes Davido and his kind music. Motunrayo Anikulapo-Kuti, in a chat with Showtime, Motunrayo also explained that her dislike for him grew after an encounter last week. She said; “Last week, I contacted an Instagram page that has been promoting Davido to post and promote a content I’ve and they said since I’m Fela’s daughter I should pay N20,000. I told them I couldn’t afford N20,000 but N10,000. I later said I would pay N15,000 because I had just N20,000 in my account and I couldn’t exhaust all of it. They made jest of me saying ‘Oh, Fela’s daughter had only N20,000 in her account’. This is one of the reasons I don’t like him; I’ve never liked him.” “There was a time he came to Afrikan Shrine and sat on my chair; I told him he was sitting on my chair that I was older than him with more than 8 years, that, he should get up for me. I advised him not to think that because he’s Davido he can just come and sit on my chair. He eventually stood up though.” Speaking further, she condemned his kind of music, classifying it as crap music. She said; “I don’t think Davido is a good artiste, I don’t like him. I’ve never related to his songs because he usually sings about girls, love, money and I’m not interested in that kind of music. I want music that would give me intelligence, music that would make me feel okay when I’m in a particular situation, not songs that would be telling me about a woman, a gold digger, an expensive shoe, accessory or whatever. That’s why I love Nicki Minaj; if you listen to her hardcore songs you’ll get a lot of intelligence from it”, http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/felas-daughter-gives-reason-she-doesnt.html

Someone once stated that in the next 10 years or so, there will be so many mad people on the streets who will be youths. Why? someone asked – because they got engrossed in the ‘get rich quickly’ syndrome and sacrificed their future for it. Now a Medical Doctor, Dr Aliyu Abubakar of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, has revealed that the youths account for over 85 per cent of mad people in Nigeria. The DON made the remark in a paper he presented at a sensitization workshop for youths organised by Bizara Youth Development Association in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State entitled: “Drug Abuse in Nigeria: Causes, Effects and Solutions.” He said: “According to a recent study, 85 per cent of mad people in Nigeria are youths within the age bracket of 18-38 years. The major cause of mental challenge in Nigeria has gone beyond drug-abuse as the youths now inhale lizard faeces, putting their noses into pit toilets, smoking matches, smoking dried horse feces and mixing lizard feces with dye powder. Drug abuse disorder is a common problem affecting about 5 per cent of the of the world population with an estimated 10.2 per cent in the USA.” He recalled that in Nigeria, it was recently reported that about three million bottles of cough syrup containing codeine is consumed daily in Kano State and about six million bottles consumed in the North-West. Abubakar added that in 2016, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency reported that about 40 per cent of Nigerian youths engaged in drug-abuse. The medical doctor stressed that the consequences of drug-abuse include mental disorder, liver cirrhosis, lethargy and cardiovascular disorder among others. Abubakar added that those abusing drugs mostly drop out of school, engage in cultism, violence, arm-robbery, thuggery, rape, lawlessness, murders and are culturally disorientated. So, remember that everything you do today is a seed… http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/why-85-per-cent-of-mad-people-in.html

Annie Idibia 2Face Idibia’s wife, Annie, has shared her thoughts on the Buhari-led administration so far. Assessing the present administration during a chat with Showtime, she expressed disappointment while condemning the socio-political situation in the country. “I’m just praying that God comes through for us during the 2019 elections because the situation of things in the country is quite discouraging and heart-breaking. I’m tired of everything, especially the killings. This year has been a nightmare as far as I’m concerned so I’m hoping that 2019 would be better. I hope that God would make them allow us to choose our leaders by ourselves for real this time”, she said sadly. She added that come 2019 her hope is for a peaceful general election. “My expectation is for a peaceful election. People should go out there and vote; no fighting, no killing, no destruction, because we’re one nation.” Speaking further, she expressed excitement that Nigerians are beginning to wake up to their responsibilities as the electorate. “I feel really happy right now because Nigerians are beginning to wake up; people are sleeping no more. It’s quite encouraging to see that a lot of people queue up to get their PVC.” She encouraged entertainers to also encourage others to obtain their permanent voter’s card (PVC) so that they can vote incredible candidates during the 2019 elections. “I can’t speak for anybody but I can say our role as entertainers is to encourage people to go out and get their PVC so that they can vote incredible people in 2019. We should encourage them to choose their leaders wisely and not just sit at home waiting for things to get done.” Source: http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/see-why-annie-idibia-is-heart-broken.html

Godwin Komone, popularly known as Gordons is a comedian and musician. He is an Urhobo, from Delta State. His career started in 1992 and he has contributed so much to its growth. He talks to Tosin Clegg about his early years, family and career I started comedy officially in 2005 And that was also the year I came to Lagos, but I had been doing comedy in Warri. I didn’t know I was going to be a professional comedian, as I started out as a musician. I was with a group and we were singing acapela music then but it wasn’t pure music, as it was musical comedy. So, a lot of people thought since I was doing comedy in the music I could separate both, and that was what I did. So, in 2005 when I came to Lagos, I decided to make it official and that was how the brand Gordons started. We did our music from 1992 to 2004, 2005 and it was a remarkable time which was my beginning. And it was what I was doing with comedy and music that brought about the brand, Gordons. Acceptance was my major challenge while starting out I felt I was not accepted and I didn’t know who to run to for mentorship. A lot of giants were in the game then and I didn’t know how to do my thing to have a breakthrough. So, I had a problem of people not giving me an opportunity, had a problem of being looked upon as a Christian person that won’t be able to function as a comedian in a circular setting and I didn’t have many friends. But thank God at the end of the day I was able to see Basketmouth who believed in me and gave me a platform called Laugh and Jams where I was able to express myself. And I have anchored ‘The Experience’ back-to-back five times. That was how it started. Your foundation will always speak for you I have been a Christian and church person all my life and everything I have done in this life is in the line of religion and church. And that was what influenced my act. Foundation is very powerful and if I wasn’t raised in the church my style of comedy would have been influenced by any kind of religion I was raised in. That’s why whenever I am on stage my foundation speaks for me as I have been a church boy all my life. I’m married with four children I’m the first born of my family, but I don’t know how many we are now. I have to call to find that out because my father is a very good producer even though he isn’t Don Jazzy. My parents are separated and they have their own husband and wife issues. I have done a lot of shows in Nigeria I did a show in Asaba with about 7,000 people in attendance and I did a show in Warri and I got 4,000 in attendance, Sapele had 3,000 and Port Harcourt had 2,000. I did a show in Lagos before and I brought Chaka Demus and Pliers but people didn’t pay attention to that. Now, they know Gordons is a bigger brand and I have started my own show as a matter of fact. But I will do my own show in Lagos, ‘Nothing But The Truth’ on December 25, 2018. And it’s a one-man show. I don’t want to do a show if I don’t have a joke to crack. I feel its time and I don’t want to do a show because people are doing theirs, but I want to have a conviction for it. My recent plane crash scare We had a Glo event in Accra and on that very day, Flavour, Tekno, myself and some artistes band members were together. We took off from Murtala Mohammed International Airport and eight minutes into the flight the pilot announced that the plane wasn’t moving well and I knew something was wrong but I wasn’t too sure. I have been on several flights and I know how a good flight should go so I was very disturbed. Between my thoughts, the pilot made an announcement that the plane was faulty and that we had to go back. It wasn’t funny and nobody was able to explain how anybody felt at that moment as reality will hit you and something would be telling you this might be it. So we started putting our lives together within us and we started asking for God’s forgiveness. As a matter of fact, somebody was advising me on the plane and how he transferred from advice to cry God has been very wonderful to me He has pushed me beyond my limit and blessed me beyond my imagination. Secondly, humility and the fear of God have kept me. It’s possible to be humble and to also place God factor in all we do. I still feel within me that I’m still starting. Apart from comedy, I’m into Real Estate And I also started my own transportation company and if I wasn’t doing all of this I would have been a Pastor. I love God and the things of God. And I feel deep down inside of me God wants me to do that and if he gives me an opportunity, believe me, I will. I’m into many things that people won’t believe as it’s believed you need to have at least four streams of income running through your life for you to have Eden on earth. Nigeria will make you have compassion for people In this country, we go through a lot as we provide the basic amenities for ourselves. We provide everything for ourselves and it’s a lot of pressure. But as Nigerians, we go through a lot and I felt I should contribute my quota by providing humour to help to augment people who are hurting and going through stress. In my career, I have heard a lot of testimonies before and how my materials have saved people. How I made myself exceptional When I came into the industry, I noticed everyone wanted to have a funny name, but I decided to bear my real name. After that, I introduced music and education which makes you learn something during the show and this makes me unique. I’m a very fulfilled comedian I have done what God wanted me to do and it has won people to God. I anchored ‘The Experience’ for five years from the first to the fifth one. I have done shows for every president during my career except for Buhari. I have done shows for governors, done shows for the biggest weddings within and outside Africa and graced every big show that has anything to do with comedy in Africa. I did shows to a point that I became a Glo Ambassador, Bill and Melinda Gates Ambassador, and being around from 2005 to now has been through God’s mercy. My growing up makes me emotional and depressed I was a child that wasn’t loved, as I didn’t receive any love from my parents at all. At some point, I was a sacrilege to them as I was born with seven teeth in my mouth, and some people said it was a mark of God, while others said it was a taboo. So I was treated like a curse and a sin right from the beginning. It was difficult, as they wanted to kill me, but thank God for some people who said they shouldn’t as they didn’t know my destiny. Growing up was hell but we used the pain we grew up with in the past to do what we have done today so that those going through things would have hope no matter what they are going through. National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has criticized the Federal Government and the Police for the raid on home of the elder statesman and former Minister of Information, Chief Edwin K. Clark. He said the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Adminstration and the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris, knew about what happened. Secondus said that the unacceptable act showed the real character of the government and their attitude towards the nation’s senior citizens who should be accorded due respect for their contributions to the growth and development of the country. His spokesman, Ike Abonyi, in a statement on Friday, said that the operatives acted in line with the body language of the administration. According to him, the invasion of Clark’s home has brought to the fore, the rascality of this government in abusing human rights with the IG as a major culprit forgetting that they would not be in power forever. “History is recording all the atrocities of this government and time would come when every actor would be made to answer for their roles in one way or the other,” he said. Secondus noted that “this is what you get when a President of a country is seen saying publicly that he would jail more people when he is not a court. “The deduction to the operatives hearing that from a Commander- in-Chief is that everybody especially perceived enemies of the government are preys who should be dealt with at the slightest opportunity.” The PDP boss said that rather than make the operatives the escape goat, the Inspector General of Police should take responsibility as he would have jumped to take credit if they had found arms in Chief Clark’s home. “The IG is trying to play smart by sacrificing the operatives when he would have owned up the operation and taken the credit if they had succeeded in their illicit mission. “What we are seeing is the image of an administration that has little or no regard for rule of law and human rights and operatives cash in on it at will,” he added. The National Chairman said that further inquest should be made on the unfortunate incident to explain how they got the search warrant and who authorized th, operation in the first place. Secondus regretted that “human rights abuses akin to what happened to Chief Clark go on under this administration on daily basis but are hardly reported but warned that no evil would ever go unpunished.” Source: http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/09/edwin-clark-apc-govt-ig-of-police-knew.html
