PoliticsAPC Rally: Police Arrest 16 Suspects Over Violence by 17Ebiscoo(op): 9:50am On Jan 10, 2019
The police have arrested 16 suspects over their alleged involvement in the violence that broke out at the rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday in Lagos.

The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, confirmed this to journalists on Wednesday.

According to him, the arrest was made after he got information about where the thugs were hired from.

“At about 2:00 am, I led my men on a road to Lagos Island where I got intel that some of the boys were hired from.

“In those two locations by the uncompleted millennium housing estate and some areas under the bridge at Adeniji Adele, we arrested 14 suspects, some of them have given us useful information.

“The Deputy Commissioner of Police Investigation State CID is handling this matter personally. So, as at now, we have a total of 16 suspects that are being interrogated,” he said.

The CP further explained that preliminary interrogation carried out, revealed that the violence was a result of some intra-party matters.

He said, “The preliminary interrogation we have carried out reveals that it is just their intraparty national union crisis.

“I hear that their state chairman is exiting soon and there are some players who are fighting to take over from him. But for crying out loud, is it the flag off of a governorship candidate that is a good venue for them to do their inter-party squabbles?”.

The CP explained that three of the four persons, including NURTW chieftain, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, who were rushed to the hospital after the incident, are recuperating.

One person, however, did not survive.

“One person (MC Oluomo) was taken to Eko Hospital and among the four persons taken to LASUTH, one person died. Three were treated and discharged,” Imohimi said.

Politics2019: No Minimum Wage, No Elections, NLC Declares by 17Ebiscoo(op): 1:47pm On Jan 08, 2019
The Cross River Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, ( NLC ) says it will not participate in the 2019 general elections if the federal and state governments fail to implement the N30,000 minimum wage.

The state NLC Chairman, Mr John Ushie, made the declaration on Tuesday during a peaceful protest in Calabar to press home the workers’ demand for the implementation of the minimum wage.

Ushie said that the current minimum wage of N18,000 had become obsolete since 2015, and accused the Federal Government of playing on the intelligence of workers’ by holding several fruitless meetings to avert strike.

The chairman decried the long period the minimum the wage bill had been with the Presidency with no plans of transmitting it to the National Assembly for passage into law.

“Labour will continue the struggle until we get victory. Victory does not come easy, it will require all our energy, and it will require us to put all.

“The minimum wage is long overdue since 2015. Workers have run out of patience, so we are here to take our destinies in our hands.

“We are here to protest because it is a national directive; we will do so until we get a commitment from government concerning the N30,000 minimum wage and when it will be enacted into law.

“Secondly, we are here to send a message to President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately transmit the minimum wage bill to the National Assembly for passage, so that the money can get to Nigerian workers without further delay.

“If the Federal Government and governors say no to minimum wage, we also say there is no vote for them; no election,’’ he said.

He said that the rally will culminate into an indefinite strike if nothing was done quickly by the Federal Government.

Also, Mr Boniface Isok, a national officer of the NLC, who said he was in Calabar to monitor the rally, maintained that workers would not participate in the 2019 general elections if the minimum wage was not implemented.

Isok said that the organised labour would not hesitate to embark on an indefinite strike if the Federal Government failed to transmit the bill to the National Assembly.

“Anytime the Federal Government heard that we want to go on strike, they will fix a meeting with no reason for it. This time, we are not giving a notice for strike.

“The Federal Government wants to hold the 2019 general elections without implementing the minimum wage because they know that once the election is held, that becomes the end of the minimum wage.

“If the Federal Government does not sign the minimum wage bill into law, there will be no election. We are ready for them this time,’’ he said.

PoliticsMinimum Wage: Senate Begs NLC To Shelve Strike (MUST READ) by 17Ebiscoo(op): 8:29am On Jan 08, 2019
The Senate on Monday pleaded with organised labour to shelve its planned nationwide industrial action over a new minimum wage in the interest of the country.

The upper chamber said that Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its sister organisations should drop the proposed strike because findings showed that President Muhammadu Buhari is working to convince states to pay the new wage.

Chairman Senate Committee on Labour, Senator Abu Ibrahim, who spoke on organised labour’s strike threat over the N30,000 minimum wage agitation, said that the federal and state government on one hand and organised labour, on the other hand, should work to strike a balance in the interest of the country.

The Katsina South lawmaker noted that the negotiation for a new salary structure is basically for the federal and state governments to conclude since they are to implement resolutions.

He said that the Senate can only intervene if there is serious disagreement that required the input of the legislature.

He insisted that it is obvious that President Buhari is working round the clock trying to convince the states to agree to pay the proposed new minimum wage.

The committee chairman added that labour unions are Nigerians who could also appreciate the financial state of the states.

He noted that it is equally evident that “there is no way, a state like Lagos can pay an amount and you expect some other states to pay like Lagos.”

He suggested the need to look at the system of the minimum wage, especially a change in the variations to allow the states to determine their minimum wages.

Ibrahim who took over the Senate Labour Committee shortly before the Senate went on Christmas and New Year break, noted that “what is important is for the government to sit with labour and proffer solution and labour should know that Nigeria is a federation and the federal government had to give assistance to the states to be able to pay even the current N18, 000.”

Both sides in the negotiation, he said, should be reasonable in order to seal an amicable solution in the interest of the country.

According to him, “President Buhari has been a salary earner and he knows how the workers feel and I am sure he would be on the sides of the workers.”

He noted that what is needed is harmonization and understanding on both sides to reach a middle ground.

On the transmission of a new minimum wage bill to the National Assembly for passage into law, Ibrahim said that it should not lead to strike since the federal government can transmit the agreement “but must carry the states along.”

He noted that the federal government cannot act unilaterally especially if states refused to go along with the federal government on what to pay.

He said, “The federal government can pay, but how many of the states can pay? Will the federal government continue to assist the states to pay the N30, 000?

“Even if the agreement is transmitted, it has to pass through the committee and the committee would work on it and follow all the processes before the Senate can finally decide and pass the law,” he said.

On the 2019 Appropriation Bill, Ibrahim said that as far as he is concerned, the National Assembly can conclude work on the budget within three weeks after resumption next week.

PoliticsINEC Chief Amina Zakari Breaks Silence, Speaks On Alleged Relationship With Buha by 17Ebiscoo(op): 7:00am On Jan 06, 2019
The newly appointed head of election collation centre for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the 2019 elections, Mrs. Amina Zakari has denied having a consanguinity relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Zakari speaking in an interview with BBC News Igbo distanced herself from the niggling allegation that she is bloodily related to Buhari.

Her words, “I am not his niece, I am not his cousin. I was appointed on this same particular job by Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in 2010. Prior to that I was appointed an A.S to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, and I did my job perfectly”.

Her appointment has generated myriads of criticisms and arguments from opposition’s political parties, Nigerians and Presidency.

Her appointment took effect from the directive of the President Muhammadu Buhari following the expiration of the tenure of her predecessor, Attahiru Jega on July 30, 2015.

However, since her appointment, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has delved into captious publications, insisting that she has a blood relationship with Buhari.

Presidency yesterday refuted the allegation and noted that Buhari and Zakari do not share a family relationship.

In a statement disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Presidency averred that “An inter-marriage occurred in their extended families, so the imputation of blood relationship between the President and the electoral commissioner is a simple lie”.

PoliticsPython Dance III: South East Governors Warn Nigerian Army Against Clashing With by 17Ebiscoo(op): 9:28pm On Jan 05, 2019
The South East Governors’ Forum on Saturday, called on the Nigerian Army to be more professional while carrying out their operation Python Dance III in the zone scheduled to take place this January to February 28 ahead of the general elections.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, stated this while receiving the General officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Abubarka Maikobi, who paid him a courtesy call at the Government House, Abakaliki.

Umahi acknowledged the fact that the South East had been greatly troubled by the presence of the army especially because of the recent clash between the army and members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and called on the army to remain neutral and maintain high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties while the operation lasts.

He charged the Army to restore the confidence of the people in the south east zone especially in the face of heightened tension ahead of the 2019 general election, that there will be no clashes.

“Your job is not an easy one. You are coming at a time the members of the Movement for actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, in the south east said there will be no election. It is coming at a time the society suspects the security agencies as an agent to rig election. It is coming at a time we have so much crisis with our neighboring states.

“The neutrality of the security agencies in the forthcoming election is very important, if Nigeria will contiune to remain one because every act done by anybody, they must understand the consequences. We must do every thing possible to assure the masses of this country the neutrality of security agencies. God has already known who will win in the coming election starting from the House of Assembly to Governor and so on.”

He challenged them to come up with workable policies that would earn them the confidence of the people of the zone in the cause of their duties, adding that the army and other security agencies must remain neutral in the coming general election in the state and by extension, the South East.

“We have people that are agitated and I always say that what IPOB are demanding shouldnot be a force. Some of them have genuine reasons to complain. But should not get to the point of insulting people and calling their tribes names, even castigating their own leaders. I get thousands of calls from a frustrated people in the name of IPOB. Yes, they have genuine reasons to complain but they shouldn’t continue the way they are going. We have proscribed IPOB because of their activities and I have no apologies to them.”

The Governor said the zone will not have any problem with the place the army may deem fit to establish their operational headquarters as long as they maintain their professional standard of protecting the people of the zone instead of being seen or accused of killing them.

He said Ebonyi State and indeed the entire South East will resist with every sense of vigour any attempt to rig the general elections using the security agencies as tools, adding that the only way Nigeria will exist beyond 2019 is for credible election to hold where all security agencies are seen to be neutral.

Earlier in his remark, the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division Enugu, Major General Abubarkar Maikobi, said he was in Ebonyi State to familiarize himself with the government and people of the South East zone and also inform him about the plan of the Nigerian army to commence the operation Egwu Eke III in the zone.

“I am also here to inform you that I have been mandated by the Chief of Army Staff to formally inform you as the Chief Security Officer of the State that exercise Egwu Eke III was flagged off in Maiduguiri, Borno State. The exercise is scheduled to take place from January 1 to 28 February, 2019. We have selected Ebonyi under your purposeful leadership as the location for the step-up headquarters for the exercise”

He disclosed that the army will remain neutral, saying “I assure you and good people of Ebonyi State that the Nigeria Army will remain neutral, professional and totally apolitical. Nigerian army will not compromise its constitutional roles under any guise,” he stated.

PoliticsNew York Set To Rename Street Housing Trump Tower Barack Obama Avenue by 17Ebiscoo(op): 12:27pm On Jan 05, 2019
Thousands of people have signed a petition in New York City to rename the block in front of Trump Tower after former President Barack Obama.

A MoveOn petition started by Elizabeth Rowin is calling for the stretch of Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th streets to be renamed “President Barack H. Obama Avenue.”

The petition would require President Trump to formally change the address of his Trump Tower building, where his 2020 reelection campaign will be headquartered on the 15th floor.

The measure had nearly 4,300 signatures as of Friday morning.

“We request the New York City Mayor and City Council do the same by renaming a block of Fifth Avenue after the former president who saved our nation from the Great Recession, achieved too many other accomplishments to list, and whose two terms in office were completely scandal free,” the petition states.

A stretch of a freeway in Los Angeles was recently renamed after the former commander in chief.

For the street to be renamed, the New York City Council would have to approve the measure and Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) would have to sign off on the name change.

The council unanimously voted last month to rename a street after the renowned hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, as well as others after rapper Notorious B.I.G., signer Woody Guthrie and poet Audre Lorde.

PoliticsWhy You Can’t Battle Wike – PDP Ridicules Tonye Cole by 17Ebiscoo(op): 8:25am On Jan 04, 2019
The Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers says the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Tonye Cole, is no match for Gov. Nyesom Wike in the upcoming general elections.

Mr Emma Okah, Director of Information and Communications of the campaign council, stated this in a release in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Okah stated that “only enemies of the state will prescribe a pupil to a teacher.’’

He was reacting to an earlier statement issued by Ogbonna Nwuke, the spokesman for Cole’s Campaign Organisation.

Nwuke described Wike as lacking the moral right to seek re-election, having allegedly squandered whatever was left of his goodwill.

But Okah noted that the governorship poll in the state “requires tact, maturity and expertise to excel.”

“Ordinarily, the PDP would not have bothered to campaign in Rivers, if Cole is the APC candidate but the joy of a free and fair contest is the lesson the loser learns.

“It teaches him that a child cannot be older than his father,’’ he stated.

Okah further stated that Cole ought to have started campaigning since 2011, if he truly meant “to battle a political colossus like Wike.’’

He said that the people of Rivers had learnt their lessons and would only vote for a man they knew.

“Rivers people will vote for a man they know and have been seeing. The man who has been council chairman, state campaign coordinator, minister, a bencher and governor.

“Wike made promises to develop the state during the 2015 campaigns and three years down the road, he has fulfilled his promises, winning awards and even doing more for Rivers people,’’ he said.

PoliticsI’m Not Known To Be Generous – Buhari by 17Ebiscoo(op): 4:59pm On Jan 03, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that he is not known to be a generous person.

He said this while receiving a delegation of members of Buhari Support Group Centre (BSGC) at the State House, Abuja, Thursday.

Buhari, who spoke on the forthcoming National Honours Award, said the intention of the administration was to “leave a better country for our children, and for coming generations,” and those who partake in such national effort would be duly rewarded with National Honours.

“Many people are qualified for such honours. We are looking at it, and we will appreciate the contributions of such people,” Buhari said.

He commended members of BSGC, who have made immense personal sacrifices to support him since he joined partisan politics, adding that they did so out of personal conviction, “because I’m not known to be a very generous person.”

The President added: “What you are doing can’t be materially compensated. You are doing it out of conviction, at the expense of your pockets, and it is God that will reward you.”

Speaking, Director General of BSGC, Umaru Dembo, said the group had sensitized Nigerians on the need to get their voter cards, keep them safe, “and voting the right candidates during elections.”

PoliticsAtiku Vs Buhari: TB Joshua Speaks On Predicting Winner Of Presidential Election by 17Ebiscoo(op): 11:50am On Jan 03, 2019
Prophet T.B. Joshua of Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, has denied releasing any prophecy regarding Nigeria’s upcoming presidential election in February 2019.

President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will slug it out with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other presidential candidates next month.

According to Prophet Joshua, he was quoted during his annual New Year service as saying: “The election will be closely contested between the two leading political parties but I see Atiku Abubakar winning”.

However, in a statement released on his official Facebook page, Joshua categorically denied the report.

“Prophet T.B. Joshua has not yet released any prophecy for the year, 2019,”the statement began.

“Any prophecy credited to him should be ignored. Emmanuel TV is our means of spreading our message; stay tuned to Emmanuel TV,” it concluded.

The cleric, however, bemoaned the ‘religious spirit’ which has infiltrated Christianity, stressing that “Jesus’ focus is the motive behind what we do” and “Christianity lies in the heart”.

“When you see someone who is doing good, don’t be in a haste to see him as good because you don’t know his motive,” he continued, citing the example of politicians who fail to fulfil election campaigns after being elected to office.

“Jesus looks at our motive behind our action but men look at the action…Jesus tests our heart to reward us.

“Nigeria, we should pray against a stop-over and pray for a smooth democracy,” Joshua stated on December 9th2018.

Earlier on July 1, 2018, he had warned Nigerians to “pray against the interruption of the democratic practice”.

Politics‘economy May Suffer Beyond 2019’ by 17Ebiscoo(op): 7:18am On Jan 02, 2019
The Grand Patron of the Legacy Group International (LGI), a non-governmental organisation, Dr. Kenny Martins, has said the economy, which experienced a horrendous time last year, may suffer beyond May 29.

Martins, who said his submission was based on facts and experiences, explained that you could not have a campaign for national elections and still give the economy full attention.

“Even the drivers of the economy take a holiday, they take a break because they are watching for who will win, what policies he will drive, and how they affect their actions. So, they wait for campaign promises and talks. It’s only after they have listened to them and silently pray for their candidates that whoever wins becomes the centre of their focus and the fulcrum for economic development.

“To this extent, nothing can be done about the economy until the next set of leadership emerges in terms of presidency and governorship.”

Martins, who addressed reporters in Lagos, regretted that the country was yet to get it right with its budget, which he said contributes to economic failure.

He said: “We don’t know why budgets cannot be presented in August, debates continue till November while ratification and ultimate pronouncement of the emergent takes place last week of December or the first week in January.

“But one day, Nigeria will get matured enough democratically and get it right.”

For this year’s elections, Martins promised that some members of Legacy Group were undergoing training with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and would return ahead of the 2019 polls, to train volunteers on election monitoring.

“Our aim is not just to be an electoral monitoring body in Nigeria, we intend to register with the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS), Africa Union (AU) and United Nations (UN) so that legacy can be globally recognised as an electoral monitoring body that is after free and fair elections,” he added.

As part of plans for a successful election, and for peace to reign, the group and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), would hold a National Day of Prayers in Abuja this month to seek God’s intervention for peaceful elections and for progress.

PoliticsOgun Guber: APC Candidate, Abiodun Speaks On His Certificate Saga, Rift With Amo by 17Ebiscoo(op): 2:50pm On Dec 31, 2018
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Mr Dapo Abiodun, has addressed the certificate scandal hanging over his campaign.

He insisted that the whole matter is down to mudslinging.

Speaking yesterday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Abiodun said he was not worried about the scandal.

“There are no issues about my certificate. I never claimed to have finished from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University),” he said.

The APC candidate has faced allegations that he submitted conflicting educational qualifications to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2015 when he ran for Senate and this year in his quest to become governor of his state.

Of contention is the allegation that he claimed to have obtained a degree from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, an allegation he denies.

“I never claimed to have gotten a degree from the University of Ife,” he insisted when asked about the matter.

He, however, said he studied at the university, but he didn’t graduate from there.

When asked about some profiles of him that indicate he had a B.A in Accounting, the candidate replied, “But that is not from Ife”.

When his attention was subsequently drawn to the argument of those who faulted claims that he bagged B.A in accounting on the grounds that the institution did not issue B.A. certificates in accounting, he blamed the controversy on political attacks.

“This has all been an attempt at mudslinging and to confuse the electorate and it is bundled with a lot of half-truths,” he said.

“I never claimed to have studied accounting at the University of Ife. I never claimed to get it (the degree) from the University of Ife. So, this issue has been presented as the presenter wanted it presented.”

Asked to clarify what degrees he had, Abiodon said, “I do have a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting and I will like to stop at that because this matter will be sub judice if I go any further.”

Stressing that the matter was in court, he declined to comment further on it when questioned about where he got his degree and the veracity of the certificate he indicated he had in his form for senatorial election in 2015.

Abiodun’s emergence as the governorship candidate of the APC in Ogun had created a rift in the party in the state with Governor Ibikunle Amosun refusing to back him, and preferring to support Adekunle Akinlade who has dumped the APC after it backed Abiodun to fly its flag in the race.

The rift also pitted Governor Amosun against the National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole with both men trading accusations.

Concerning the crisis in the state chapter of the party, Abiodun said, “Governor Amosun is my governor. I am positively disposed to reconciling with everyone and anyone, particularly my governor; he is a governor in my party.

“I believe these issues are issues that are internal to our party. It is unfortunate that it has come to the public fore. But I am sure that at the right time, these issues will be reconciled.”

Oshiomhole has been accused of working for Abiodun’s emergence as the party’s candidate against the wishes of the major stakeholders of the party in the state.

But Abiodun insists he won the primary election fairly.

He said, “I don’t know about favoured candidates. I don’t think that primary elections are won by favoured candidates. Adams Oshiomhole did not come to conduct my elections in Ogun. I don’t see how anyone will begin to accuse Adams Oshiomhole as favouring me in place of some other persons.

“It is not unusual that we have these kinds of issues arise when we have primary elections within a party. It is not unusual and it is not the first time. It is just that this has been a bit more contentious than ordinarily, we have seen in the past.

“A body was set up to conduct my elections, that body conducted the elections, I emerged from that process and I have been declared the winner of that election and I remain the validly elected winner of that election.”

PoliticsShehu Shagari: Buhari Declines To Comment In Ex-president’s Condolence Register by 17Ebiscoo(op): 11:30am On Dec 31, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari’s condolence visit to the Sema Road of late former President Shehu Shagari witnessed a bit of drama as the President declined to make comment in the condolence register.

Buhari wrote only his name and date in the condolence register.

The President declined to comment in honour of former President Shehu Shagari, who passed on Friday and was buried on Saturday.

Ex-President Shagari, who died at 93, led Nigeria between 1979 and 1983.

He was overthrown in a coup d’état that brought in Buhari to power as military head of state, three months after he (Shagari) was sworn in for a second term.

Buhari wrote only his name: M. Buhari and date: 30/12/ 2018 in the condolence register.

Meanwhile, the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan, who also visited Shagari’s family home yesterday, wrote, “I called with King A. J. Turner, Hon Tobias James, former governor of Anambra State and now the PDP vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to condole with the family and state on the death of our former president.

“H. E. Alhaji Shagari was a man with pure heart. He was a good leader who meant well for our country. He served in various capacities and made significant contribution to the growth and development of Nigeria.

“He did his best as a president from 1979-1983. May his soul rest in peace.”

PoliticsFrench, Niger Troops Kill Islamist Insurgents In Joint Operation by 17Ebiscoo(op): 7:40am On Dec 31, 2018
French and Nigerien troops killed around 15 Islamist militants in a joint air and ground operation in south west Niger on Dec. 27, France’s armed forces and defence ministry said on Sunday.

The air raid and ground assault took place near Tongo Tongo, a village close to the border with Mali and some 175 kilometres (109 miles) north of Niamey.

Tongo Tongo was where, in October 2017, militants killed four U.S. soldiers and four local soldiers in an ambush on their joint patrol.

Islamist militants in Niger are part of a regional insurgency in the poor, sparsely populated deserts of West Africa’s Sahel.

In 2017, five countries - Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, Mali and Mauritania - backed by France, launched a taskforce, the G5 Sahel, in order to combat the insurgents. France operates in the region through its regional Barkhane force.

During the operation the force recovered 20 motorbikes and a stash of weapons including several machine guns during the operation, the French military said in a statement. (Reuters)

PoliticsNAF Carries Out Major Raid In Zamfara by 17Ebiscoo(op): 4:48pm On Dec 30, 2018
The Nigerian Air Force said the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation DIRAN MIKIYA successfully neutralised an armed bandits hideout at a compound West of Tsamari in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara.

Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

He explained that the attack was conducted at dawn on Dec. 28, following intelligence reports indicating that the compound was being used by the armed bandits as a camp from where they launch attacks on innocent civilians.

Accordingly, the ATF detailed a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft, which confirmed the presence of bandits armed with high calibre weapons at the location.

“Consequently, an Alpha Jet aircraft was dispatched to strike the compound, recording direct hits on the target area and resulting in significant damage to the structures and neutralisation of some bandits.

“This was later confirmed by credible human intelligence sources,’’ he said.

Daramola said surface troops later invaded the compound and recovered some motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing criminals.

“The ATF working in concert with surface forces and other security agencies, will continue to conduct reconnaissance and air interdiction missions with a view to restoring normalcy to the affected states in the North-west.’’

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)EPL: Solskjaer Announces Manchester United Captain by 17Ebiscoo(op): 5:11pm On Dec 28, 2018
Manchester United caretaker boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has confirmed that Antonio Valencia will remain captain.

Valencia wore the armband for much of last season, but officially took on the role on a permanent basis when Michael Carrick retired to move into coaching.

The Ecuadorian has struggled for form and fitness this term, amid rumours of a fall-out with previous United boss, Jose Mourinho, and has not featured in Solskjaer’s two games to date as he fights to return to peak condition.

However, the Norwegian head coach has backed him to win back his place in the team, while stating that he will retain the captain’s armband for the foreseeable future.

“He’s the captain. When he’s properly fit and playing he’ll wear the armband.

“He’s going through a couple of tough sessions now to get him ready for the tough period coming up. There aren’t many better right-backs going forward with his abilities,” Solskjaer said, according to Goal.

PoliticsPDP Plans To Tarnish President’s Image by 17Ebiscoo(op): 9:20am On Dec 28, 2018
The President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation has accused the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar of plotting to tarnish the image of the President.

Spokesman of the organization, Festus Keyamo (SAN) said the latest claim in which Atiku linked phantom share in Etisalat and Keystone Bank showed that the opposition party planned “to release series of wild and unsubstantiated allegation against President Buhari, his deputy, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and members of their families.

Keyamo reaction was contained in a statement titled: Etisalat and Keystone Bank shares: public alert on plans by PDP and Atiku team to release a series of wild, unsubstantiated allegations against the president and vice president.

He said: “With the latest refrain of the PDP linking some phantom shares in Etisalat and Keystone bank to the ‘family’ of the President, we have it on good authority that the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and his party are set to release a series of wild, unsubstantiated allegations against the President and Vice President including their friends and family members, in the next few weeks. With the latest revelation that the said shares are rather linked to relatives of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, it has became a case of the thief calling the farm owner the thief, as the Yorubas would say in a popular proverb. These impending wild allegations would naturally border on corrupt practices without any evidential basis. The purpose is to attempt to dent the greatest forte of the President and Vice President going into 2019 elections, which is their personal integrity. The latest tactics of the main opposition is premised on the following grounds:

a) Since their stuttering campaigns started, they have felt the pulse of Nigerians and realized Nigerians have not forgotten their misdeeds of 16 years whilst in office.
b) They have decided to run a campaign of “we-are-all-corrupt” rather than defend their sordid records of merciless looting of the public purse, which has brought us to where we are today.
c) The aim is to push Nigerians to equate an Alhaji Atiku Abubakar with President Muhammadu Buhari on matters of corruption. They want to deceive Nigerians to think that the 2019 elections is really a choice between two “corrupt” persons
d) By repeating the lies a million times, they aim to get Nigerians to begin to give some serious thought to the lies. This is how the “Jubrin from Sudan” story started, before even some well-exposed and educated Nigerians were nearly converted on that issue.
e) Their latest desperate diversionary tactics is because even the most uneducated Nigerian has now understood that all the issues upon which the main opposition is campaigning are self-indicting issues, especially on the Economy and Security. The foundation for the challenges in these sectors, are firmly rooted in their 16 years of disastrous governance. President Buhari has just started a re-building process.

“Nigerians should therefore brace for six weeks of despicable lies from the pit of hell against the president and vice president, to try to suggest to Nigerians that the president and his deputy are part of the league of looters to which they belong. But Nigerians should understand that the choices before them have never been this clear: It is between a fugitive from the law in America and a President who has never been accused of stealing anything in his entire life and is respected both locally and internationally; It is between a man who claims he wants to ‘get Nigeria working again’ yet has always refused to pay his taxes AS AT WHEN DUE and a man who has NEVER cheated the Nigerian State. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has since kept an ominous silence over this damaging allegation of irresponsible and deliberate tax evasion that is now before a court of law.

Whilst the President and Vice President are prepared and willing to answer any genuine inquiry raised about their stewardship, Nigerians should always ask the critical questions as to “where”, “when”, “how”, names, dates, addresses, etc in respect of any allegation raised by the opposition before giving any credence to it. This is because as the Atiku Campaign continues to fall apart on a daily basis, we may hear such desperate allegation from them that President Buhari has sold the buildings in Aso Rock to the Israelis or Americans!!!

“Nigerians should tell Alhaji Atiku Abubakar that it is too late in the day to impugn the integrity of Mr. President, or to “package” himself before Nigerians as a honest man. Nigerians only need to read the book by his former boss, ex President, Olusegun Obasanjo titled, “MY WATCH”.

“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar must bear the cross and tar of corruption alone (as pronounced by the Congress in America and his former boss). He should not drag President Muhammadu Buhari into that room of moral debauchery with him.”

PoliticsNew Minimum Wage: NECA Warns Buhari Over Delay, Speaks On Strike In January 2019 by 17Ebiscoo(op): 8:46am On Dec 28, 2018
The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) on Thursday, made it clear that the indecisive disposition of the Muhammadu Buhari administration to the implementation of a new national minimum wage was unacceptable.

NECA also described an industrial action in January next year, due to slow action in transmitting a bill to the National Assembly, as promised by President Buhari, as counter-productive and disruptive to businesses in the country.

The Director-General of NECA, Timothy Olawale, stated these in a statement issued in Lagos.

Olawale expressed concern that seven weeks after the report was submitted by a National Minimum Wage Committee inaugurated by the President, the government was still planning to subject the report to a review by another technical committee.

“Globally, there is a recognised and acceptable process of setting a National Minimum Wage as enshrined in the ILO Convention 131. This process had been adopted in previous National Minimum Wage setting in Nigeria and was meticulously applied by the National Minimum Wage Committee inaugurated by the President in December 2017.

“It was expected that following the submission of the National Minimum Wage Committee’s Report to the President on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, expedited action would be taken in transmitting a bill to the National Assembly as promised by President Muhammadu Buhari. This delay in the completion of the process had led to the proposed strike by labour, which is totally undesirable and should be avoided.”

“Businesses are at present encumbered by several challenges and any avoidable labour action at the beginning of the year or any time whatsoever would be counter-productive, disruptive and would not be welcomed,” Olawale said.

Politics2019 Presidency: Buhari’s Relatives Have Turned Daura To Dubai, London With Stol by 17Ebiscoo(op): 8:40am On Dec 27, 2018
A spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential campaign, Buba Galadima, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has secretly and illegitimately enriched his relatives.

Galadima argued that the President has no integrity, adding that he was ready to show anyone who cares to see, mansions and estates owned by Buhari’s relatives all over the world.

The politician, who used to be an ally to Buhari, stated this on a live programme on Channels Television, on Wednesday.

Galadima said that several of President Buhari’s relatives had become significantly wealthier in the time he (Buhari) has been in office.

According to Galadima, “I can’t see any integrity whatsoever on the side of Mr. President. Which integrity?

“Somebody who condones corrupt people around him. We know of his relatives. We know of his friends who were bankrupt before 2015.

“We know of his relatives who took N2,000 transport money from us to go to Kaduna.

“Today, they are multibillionaires. They have assets all over the world. They have estates all over the world.

“I can show anybody that wants to know. So, the issue of integrity with this government is not an issue.

“Go to Daura GRA. When you go there, all the houses that make you feel as if you are in Dubai, London or Beirut were built by whom? To whom do those properties belong?”

Politics2019 Presidency: Fayose Calls Out Gov Yari, Talks Of Buhari Govt’s Plot In Zamfa by 17Ebiscoo(op): 9:30am On Dec 26, 2018
Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti, has urged Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, Zamfara governor to return home and protect his people.

Fayose, lamenting about spate of Killings, said Yari should not be abroad at a time when there is level of insecurity in Zamfara.

Fayose said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday.

The statement read: “I’m aware that the governor is abroad and I advise that he should return home.

“This is the time for him to be a man and stand in defense of his people rather than standing with their oppressors.”

Fayose also accused the federal government of plotting to hide under the killings to impose emergency rule on the state.

He said the alleged plot was in response to the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to allow the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field candidates for the 2019 elections in Zamfara.

The ex-governor accused the government of orchestrating a “selfish, partisan agenda”.

“With the emergency rule, there will only be presidential and national ssembly elections in the state in February next year while governorship and state house of assembly elections will be postponed till May

“The federal government should admit its failure and apologise to the people of Zamfara state, who were left at the mercy of armed bandits as using the killings to achieve political goal is not only wicked but inhuman.

“The federal government must be reminded that “under the PDP government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, emergency rule was declared in three states in the north-east without dismantling democratic institutions,” the statement added.

PoliticsEFCC Applies For Interim Forfeiture Of $2.8m Intercepted At Enugu Airport by 17Ebiscoo(op): 7:18am On Dec 25, 2018
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a motion at the Federal High Court in Enugu for temporary forfeiture of the $2.8 million intercepted at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, last Thursday.

A vacation judge at the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, is expected to hear and decide the motion as well as the attached affidavit of urgency.

The agency also said it would be seeking an order to keep the two workers of Bankers’ Warehouse, who were arrested with the money in extended custody, adding that they were already providing the necessary information.

The acting EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, also disclosed in Abuja yesterday that a third suspect, identified as Orji, had been detained in connection with the cash haul.

He explained that Orji brought a letter to the commission seeking its permission to move some money from Enugu to Lagos, adding that the EFCC operatives simply detained him for further investigation.

Orilade stated that no official of either Union Bank Plc which was claiming ownership of the $2.8 million or Bankers’ Warehouse, which was moving the money illegally had shown up at the commission to claim the money or explain the circumstances behind the mode of transfer.

According to him, the two workers of Bankers’ Warehouse in custody were not released because nobody came for their bail.

He further revealed that the commission would be probing the books of Bankers’ Warehouse to know the source of the confiscated cash.

Orilade said, “We would be checking the company’s books to know the source of the money. If it was from customers, they must show the vouchers and proof of ownership, including lodgments.

“If the money was from the (Union) bank, there must be records of such movement, who authorised the funds and for what purpose? The bank can’t coerce the commission to release the money; it has to show proof of ownership.”

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)EPL: Klopp Reveals Team That Will Challenge Liverpool, Man City For Title by 17Ebiscoo(op): 5:06pm On Dec 24, 2018
Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has insisted Tottenham Hotspur will contest the Premier League title race with his team and Manchester City, following their 6-2 win over Everton on Sunday.

Spurs closed the gap to league leaders Liverpool to six points with the victory at Goodison Park and are just two points behind City.

“I saw the game yesterday against Everton.

“Of course, with the goal which didn’t count, and then the first goal of Tottenham was a situation that Tottenham obviously needed because Everton played absolutely more than okay in the first couple of minutes.

“But then they hit pretty much everything and it was really impressive how Tottenham did. That same can happen or will happen to Chelsea, to Arsenal, all that stuff.

“There is no decision made, that’s how it is. Why should it be that nobody can feel safe, nobody should feel out of the race, whatever. It’s just not the time to think about it actually.

“And, for me, [Tottenham] were never out [of the race] – so why should I be surprised they are in now again?

“It’s just a fantastic football team. I’ve said a few times, for me Tottenham had the most difficult summer period and I don’t talk about not signing players – because if you have the right team why should you sign players?

“It’s just because eight or nine players played the full World Cup nearly and playing so far such a season is more than impressive.

“So a lot of teams are in what you call the title race and that’s the way it should be. And that’s maybe the only difference to last year when pretty much no-one was in it and that’s good for all supporters,” Klopp said according to UK Metro.

PoliticsAPC, Akpabio Under Fire Over Buhari’s Election Campaign In Akwa Ibom by 17Ebiscoo(op): 1:26pm On Dec 23, 2018
The Akwa Ibom Liberation Movement (AILM) has condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the timing of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state.

AILM President, Prince Emmanuel Sam, in an open letter on Saturday, said the decision of APC to fix Friday, 28th December 2019, for the flag-off of Buhari’s second term campaign has been received with mixed feelings.

The letter addressed to Buhari explained that echelon of the traditional institution in Ibibio, the majority ethnic group in Akwa Ibom State, had scheduled the coronation of her President General (Oku Ibom) on the same day.

Sam wrote: “This letter is informed by the glaringly spiteful decision of the leadership of APC to ridicule that very important traditional event by fixing the date of your campaign to coincide with it. The coronation of Oku Ibom Ibibio and reunification of the vast kingdoms of Ibibio under one leadership after more than a decade of wrangling, distrust, and interference particularly under Godswill Akpabio’s regime, is of utmost importance to every well meaning son and daughter of Ibibio nationality. The date of this event was fixed about two months ago and same was communicated to all the ‘who is who’ as well as organisations in Akwa Ibom state, without bias to political parties and affiliations.

“In fact, by privilege of having our members as part of the planning of the Ifim Ibom Ibibio event, we are aware that invitation letters were sent to leadership of all other ethnic nationalities in the State, socio – cultural groups, the clergy, security agencies, political stakeholders and your party. Thus, we can state that the leadership of the APC was aware of this date, yet decided to fix your presidential campaign to coincide with it.

“We are surprised, but somewhat not very surprised that suddenly the APC has fixed your campaign on that day in absolute disregard to the piety deserving of such day in the life of the people of the great Ibibio ethnic nationality and Akwa Ibom State. A question may suffice here, Your Excellency. Is the APC fighting the Ibibios? Is the party fighting the highest Ibibio traditional stool or its occupant? It seems clearly so.

“Your Excellency, may we bring to your attention that the attitude and action of your party men towards the event have evoked a broad feeling of resentment and a consensus that the APC presidential campaign flag-off is another lavish streak to dishonour the Ibibio collective patrimony. We are somewhat not very surprised by this recurrence. In our stream of consciousness, we have seen this type of contraption play out many times when Chief Godswill Akpabio was governor.

“Your Excellency, perhaps it would be important that we fill you in on why this broad concern is raised. The last occupant of the Ifim Ibom Ibibio, Edidem Robert Obot, the Oku Ibom Ibibio lll and Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, was gruesomely murdered in his palace by ‘unknown’ gunmen eight years ago. That was in 2010 under the watch of your newly adopted son and former governor of our State, Chief Godswill Akpabio. From when the monarch was murdered till the end of that administration, Akpabio’s government did almost nothing to fish out the perpetrators of that heinous crime.

“A presidential campaign would not be scheduled on the same day with the enthronment of the Emir or an Oba, if it were in Kano or Ogun State. The Ibibio people love the President and respect his office. However, it will leave a strong, unconquerable feeling of dismission and disrespect towards the office of the President, should the President continue with the planned campaign in Akwa Ibom on Friday, the 28th.

“Mr. President, we strongly appeal to your conscience to respect our traditional institution and reschedule the launch of your campaign in Akwa Ibom State to another date, if it pleases you to respect public opinion on this.”
