Lagos State Schools Safety Compliance To Strictly Begin In September, 2014 by davit: 11:57am On Jul 17, 2014
As from September 2014, any school that fails to be safety certified in Lagos State might not be allowed to carry out its business or even get sanctioned for non-compliance. This was revealed at the last Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC) schools conference held on July 7, 2014.

The conference, which was organised by LSC in conjunction with SchoolRun and Lagos State Ministry of Education, had in attendance representatives of virtually all the private schools in Lagos State such as teachers, school owners and stake holders.

Emphasis was laid on the fact that organizations and accredited safety agents must be registered by the Lagos State Safety Commission.
Also, private schools in Lagos State will now be ranked according to their rate of compliance to the standard set by the Lagos State Safety Commission.

The opening presentation was given by the Deputy Director of LSC, Mrs. Ronke Odeneye, who re-emphasized the LSC’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment in schools. Mrs. Bc. Akin-Alabi, the Principal Consultant of SchoolRun – the State School Safety Administrator – gave an overview of how the school safety programme will be implemented in the State. In her brief presentation, InSiGHt Health’s Principal Consultant, Dr Nnenna Mba-Oduwusi, shared some of InSiGHt’s experiences and safety-related findings from the several school safety audits conducted in the State this year.

Other speakers also talked about various issues bordering on the need for safety compliance in schools. Mrs. Bc Akin-Alabi announced that SchoolRun would be collaborating closely with InSiGHt Health Consulting to ensure the implementation of credible, comprehensive school audits in Lagos State commencing in September, 2014.

To encourage the participating schools, InSiGHt Health offered a free assessment to a lucky school. This was done through a raffle – the second of its kind this year. The school randomly picked is Docemo Nursery and Primary school, Yaba, Lagos.

Lagos State Safety Commission was set up by the law passed by the 6th House of Assembly of Lagos State Government, to set safety standards for all sectors involved in socio-economic activities in the State. SchoolRun is the State Consultant and Administrator of the State School Safety Project on behalf of Lagos State Safety Commission.
