The 2014 Commonwealth Games begins today in Glasgow, Scotland, with an opening ceremony of scores of athletes including Team Nigeria.

It is expected to have a potential television audience of 1.5 billion viewers tune in from across the globe.

Meanwhile, in spite of delays in delivery of Team Nigeria’s kits, manufacturers have given assurance that the kits would be delivered ahead of the opening ceremony and Nigeria will be well kitted .

The assurance was given by a member of the National Sports Commission (NSC) delegation to the Games, Dr. Ademola Are while reacting on phone to media reports that described Nigeria’s representatives as orphans, as a result of delays in delivery of kits.

He said that the reports were not factual because even though the kits have not been delivered, the athletes have been adequately kitted by their individual federations.

“We should have gotten our kits before we came but unfortunately there were delays but we are optimistic we would be proudly dressed in the kits at the opening ceremony tomorrow (today),” he explained.

Speaking further, he assured Nigerians that the athletes are in the right frame of mind to make the nation proud. adding that there are promises from them on exceeding medals haul from previous editions.
