How To Interview Your Client (part 1) by Ayomidewunmi: 8:47am On Jul 23, 2014
In our last lesson we talked about how to choose a client for the Successful Web Design Business Bootcamp!

Today, let’s get into how to interview your client to assure the success of your project…

Once you have discovered a potential opportunity you need to meet with the client and conduct a detailed interview. The goal of this interview process is two-fold…

First of all, you are trying to evaluate this project and see what opportunities exist. When you ask the right questions you can uncover hidden opportunities average designers would never find. Based on this evaluation you will then decide if this is a project that you are interested in.

The second goal of this interview is to collect the information you need to write the brief for the project. (We’ll explain more about briefs later.)

By the time you finish this interview, you need to make sure you understand their market and their Unique Selling Proposition (USP), know their goals for their web presence, know the requirements for the website project, collect any existing marketing collateral and content they have for their website, identify the look and feel they expect from their website and have enough information to prepare the brief. Don’t worry if you don’t understand some of this now – we’ll explain everything you need to know.

During this interview, make sure they do the majority of the talking. Ask open ended questions and really listen to the answers so you get a good feel for their market and the type of people who will be visiting their website. They know more about their target market than you do, so let them talk and your job will become much easier.

Your lesson for today is to interview your client using the information below… (If you are your client, take some time to think through and answer each question thoroughly.)
