mascot87: Good move by Putin, he has a foresight of d possibility of the West instigating Russians against it's government which if not handled properly could prompt d Russian government to take up arms against it's own people heating up more the polity & giving d West a reason to interven through wanting to oust d government militarily. He knows quite well the angle through which d West could get him & he must be very careful to ensure that the game is played to his own favor & not against him.

You admit the west did it in Ukraine but still believe they can't repeat the same in Russia. When did they repent from planting evil all over the world? An example is a peaceful and prosperous Libya under Gaddafi which the west has ruined.

gboss4sure: The United States Government has always funded protest in other to throw out Governments that doesn't do their bidding, The same way they funded the protest in Ukraine up to the tone of 5 Billion Dollars just because of their world domination agenda and they see Russia as the one blocking them.

Who knows the level of intelligence reports Putin received that made him ban street protest.

Well at least the world still needs Russia to balance the tyranny and dictatorship of the US Government.

Putin leading the Brics makes him a target, When Gaddafi convinced African leaders to create an alternative to IMF, within months drones started flying over Libya, today Libya is a shadow of itself.
True word! Even the MH 17 is an example of how life is valued by the west..they will kill an entire village just to eliminate one person. The have the media scoundrels making it easier to brainwash people into thinking they are constantly right, especially here in Africa, notably Nigeria with their slack n useless journalists, licking the ass of imperialists.

You are absolutely correct emmatok. I like the angle at which you have viewed this.

Should the Chinese or the Russians become world powers, do not trust them either... Power corrupts and you can expect that the same manner in which the US has gone about its hegemonic ambitions will be repeated by China and Russia. Subjugating and subverting non-compliant governments to their will..... We as Africans have to wake up and realize that we ourselves are our only hope. All these looking up to America or trusting in them oyinbos is folly - totally folly....

That's why I don't join the so called antiwest or anti Putin talk on NL.

Russians, China, UK and the USA has a good history of Subjugating and subverting non-compliant governments.

Just imagine what Israel is doing Palestinians.

. Would there ever be an end to shambolic conspiracy theories that always lead to US. I hardly watch cnn for your info. When a govt is terribly corrupt, the dissatisfied and improvished citizens are bound to protest. When basic social facilities are non existent or at best non functional, the citizens express their discontentment as expected. You think people care more about external intrusion than internal malady. Citizens of any given state would rather fight for their survival, even if it means receiving assistance from external forces. The bottom line is failure on the part of various govts

Why Putin seems to be now challenging the West is because a democrat controls the affairs of Washington. Let a republican like my dear McCain take over the affairs of the United States and see how every nation on earth will shake! Putin is a small boy. Wonder where he was during Clinton or Bush era. Putin has only pre-empted what he sees as efforts by the West to destablize his country with protests and violence that can be instigated and sponsored by Western NGOs, think-tanks and 5th elements masquerading as pro-democracy, pro-transparency, pro-open economy organizations. They have done this in the past and light of Putin, together with other world leaders successfully lauching the BRICS economic block, you can bet your ass that they will attempt to do this again. I have said it before and I will say it again: DO NOT TRUST THE WEST! All the do aren't all for altruistic or humanitarian reasons. They are mostly after their interests and Putin has posed a serious threat to the West's hegemony and control of the world's prime financial institutions, namely the IMF and the World Bank.

Isn't it so obvious to see the geo-politics at play? Russia at the moment is locked in a political and financial war wih the West. At the rate in which things are going, I do not see how a real war will be avoided sometime in the future. Has anyone heard of the Asian pivot and the ABMs being deployed in Eastern Europe which the West claims are actually protection against Iran when in reality that are for countering the tactical nuclear threat that Russia poses? Wars and World Wars have been fought for resources and economic control and I guarantee you that wars are still yet to be fought....

Spot on!

And this is the speech Putin made prior to taking this course of action:

July 22nd:

"We shall provide an adequate and well-measured response to NATO’s expansion towards Russia’s borders, and we shall take note of [the West] setting up a global missile defense architecture and building up its arsenals of precision-guided weapons…No matter what our Western counterparts tell us, we can see what’s going on. As it stands, NATO is blatantly building up its forces in Eastern Europe, including the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea areas. Its operational and combat training activities are gaining in scale…The so-called competitive struggle at the international arena will imply the use of tools in both economic and political fields. This will include the potential of security services, modern information and communication technologies, and connections of dependent, puppet NGOs – the so-called soft power…apparently, some countries regard it as democracy."

Putin is a good leader, he didn't totally ban protests, but repeated protests are banned and punishment being a fine, house arrest or short jail term.
Every country is different so they have to make laws that directly protects the interest of the Country and it's citizens.

Great soulja. I wanted to write a piece but seeing yours, I decided against it cause you successfully nailed it.

Most folks down here simply don't understand what realpolitiks is all about, nor do they care to read in between lines before jumping to conclusions. If only many understood the term "colour coded revolution," they won't be here spewing garbage. Some can't even see that the law didn't ban street protest but "repeated protest", which often ends up in criminality, like we are seeing in the US where people can burn cars, loot stores, attacked policemen and still call Trump a dictator here on Nairaland. Another funny thing is that many simply don't understand the Russian way of life and its historical antecedents. Putin ban repeated street protest and some folks here view him as Hitler, yet, his approval rating among Russians is higher than that of any European leader currently.

What an irony! cool
