Samsung traditionally has launched one flagship followed by a series of variants: a mini, a rugged version (Active) and a camera variant (Zoom). Following the release of the Galaxy S5 at the MWC and the Galaxy S5 Active, Samsung is now officially bringing the Galaxy S5 mini to the world, with an official launch in the UK planned for August 7th. But how does this miniature phone compare to the flagship, what exactly does it have to offer, and most importantly, at which price?

Galaxy S5 mini release date and price

Samsung just announced the UK release of the Galaxy S5 mini for August 7th, along with the mid-range and less expensive Galaxy Young 2. So far, Carphone Warehouse and Samsung Experience Stores will be carrying the phones along with selected high street retailers. As yet, no retailers have disclosed a price for the Galaxy S5 mini, although the device has already been made available in Russia, Germany and other parts of Europe for €449, so the price would be comparable to this with a pound sterling conversion, around 350 GBP.

Galaxy S5 mini specs

The Galaxy S5 mini will sport a 4.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display. You'll get the same debatable dimpled Band-Aid look on the back, but you'll be repaid for that stylistic faux pas with IP67 water-resistance, the excellent Ultra Power Saving Mode and the added extras of the finger scanner and heart rate monitor. As is always the case, the S5 mini is designed to have every Samsung wearable known to man attached to it at all times to keep S Health fed with your health and fitness data.

The Galaxy S5 mini is powered by a quad-core processor ticking away at 1.4 GHz and it will be backed up by 1.5 GB of RAM. The S5 mini takes photos with a 8 MP main shooter and delivers Cat 4 LTE speeds. The whole shebang is kept humming by a 2,100 mAh removable battery and as always, you'll also have access to microSD expansion. We'll let you know if there's any other interesting additions when we get our hands on the mini flagship. The S5 mini runs Android 4.4 at launch with Samsung's TouchWiz user interface. Cool

Except the brand name and other samsung goodies the phone carries, there is nothing spectacular about this phone. Not hating, i just feel the phone should be under 300euro.
