you have to look at it from a different perspective. yeah its not easy..

Imagine u r playing an adventure game, its not easy but you are having fun trying to pass the present stage, coding is just like that.

I just need to know if you know what you are talking about. Don't give the name since you are uncomfortable about it. Just give me a description of it (payment system, school's database, someone's app, power grid, someone's pc etc), what level of encryption and how many bits etc.
lolz!!!! am sure he has never heard those terms before!!!! folks be forming mighty coz they got free browsing cheats. they dont even knw what the IPAddress is all about!!! seriously pple can be annoying at times!!!!

chibwike: lol...you know that coding is not quite easy.

In foreign universities(even in some African countries), programming is a major part of the syllabus... An average comp. Sci student/graduate learns or is taught at least 15 different programming languages.

Some of them even have knowledge of some programming languages b4 gaining admission.

But in naija,.. Dem no sabi anything even after graduating...

Am a computer science graduate, its a very interesting course and you must have a flare for it, the good thing is that there are many branches, pick your strenght and major in it, computer science is not only about programming, there are other fields you can thrive in (Networking, Programming, database administration, system analysis and design, system security, computer graphics, computer architecture, hardware, software engineering, web design and so on...) what some people have said here is true, u wont be taught somethings in school(thatz because some of the lecturers are outdated) get information, go to youtube, download video tutorials, dont waste ur data downloading pornn wink get useful information that would improve your skill. People say you can learn more stuffs on computer science without going to university, true! But thatz if u wanna establish your own IT firm if you want to work, a Bsc in computer science is necessary, then you can henceforth pay to get professional qualifications....

Computer science is not about learning how to type or use office tools, it goes beyond that, infact you wont be taught that, itz not as easy as people think! If you have a passion for it, you will enjoy the course. Itz only a computer scientist that could design a website for a big firm or create a database and be paid 1 million naira! I love my course, am a proud naccosite.

LordRahl001: seriously i wish!!! but one thing i have gained from my God-sent Mentor(Algorithm by name) is how to be self-reliant!! i believe if i have the right materials which if I am fortunate will be online, some datasheets and some samples might be a good place to start!!! seriously thats just what we are lacking in Nigeria!!! i remembered i had to order a smart card reader from china when i wanted to go into smart card programming!!! not even a company is selling it in nigeria!!! so pathetic!!! but by Gods grace, we will get there!!!!
Nigeria as a whole is lagging behind in the computing and technology world....and it affects us in all ramifications..take a look at our movies...when will Nigeria ever produce a film lyk Transformers..or lets just say a comic cartoon lyk Garfield...if its nt Mr ibu then we ve nt started...its nt really a gud thing at all.

I don't think I'm a 'sir' yet; and no, I'm no CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), but I know a thing or two about it.
Don't really have a specific area I like the most, but I'm better in programming and web development because our project mainly depended on both, but we were all taught the basics of Software engineering, System analysis and design, Networking, Database administration and the rest.

and along the line we can discuss Artificial intelligence for the implementation.
and to start with i'd love us to discuss Tower of Hanoi algorithm

This got me reminiscing about when I was in school and my senior brought up this cartoon ish. A cartoon movie with us as its characters. We had about 15-20 of us which would have been unique characters tailored to their voices, fashion, habits, vices etc but we neither had the knowledge or the means to materialise it. It really would have been cool.

exactly the problem people are having understanding computer science!!! They all think its about using Office things!! for most, the only operating system is windows, they dont even knw what MsAccess is all about!!! and yes you really need to have that flair, the will to go on when the going gets tough, the will to overcome a challenge!!! i knw of a friend that quitted java only cox of a 'semi-colon' thats not there. so its about the will!!

but you knw we could actually talk and discuss about it and who knws inspiration can spring up!! and we could bring something reasonable out!! we dont need to necessarily write codes but we could talk about algorithms, tools environments and conditions. so to start with, let me ask you sir, how will u address the Tower of Hanoi problem?
Re: A Thread For Computer Science Students.(Nacossites) by Nobody: 11:33am On Aug 13, 2014
I always tell people there's a big difference between a computer operator and a computer scientist....
You can be good with most of the Microsoft programs, using the web, doing some cool stuff with the popular Android OS or some little hacks and tricks, but still you're still not a genius.

seriously!! many ideas, many projects, you knw the sad thing is while in school, u have time, u have the ideas, you have almost everything except the right resources. most of those things we r seeing today originated from school. facebook, microsoft, yahoo, google. but here in Nigeria, there is just no resource. they expect us to maintain the status quo. come to school, cram, pour, pass out with good grades join the labour market and get employed with a certificate u cant even invent anything in. for computer science, they r still giving awards for students with the highest score; what the hell? no award for the best programmer, the best web developer, the best innovator, the best graphic artist, the best animation developer. when there is motivation no matter how small, will spur every1 to work harder. seriously an additional 5k for something i enjoy doing wont hurt me at least; but in nigeria, we soo much believe in theories. i have a lot of programmers as friends but they are not always the best in d class coz they end up being burdened with courses that are not even relevant. what i hope and pray for when i am ok is to go back to my school and organize programming challenges; innovations which will be duly recognized and rewarded. so the so called scholars can go ahead and cram but some pple will be making a future for themselves.

God bless you. It angers me when I hear people say computer science is useless due to the fact that they learnt PHP5, mySQL, XML/CSS and some open source shits like bootstrap, simplepx, joomla and so on. To them, C.Sc. = Web design. Another set of lunatics are those who think obtaining an ND degree in aptech/NIIT is better than a B.Sc./HND degree in a reputable institution. I really do not blame them but the whack NACOSSITE undergraduates who gave them the effrontery to spit fire. Most of these computer science students read to pass and as such, cannot out-think and manoeuvre their way out of any real life challenge. At least, if not for anything, I have been able to prove the overwhelming relevance of Mathematics/Statistics in our field of study(Computer Science) during complex real-life situations on campus and where I and my colleagues began an information system solution based enterprise.
Computer science is the most diverse course one can study and could be deployed in any field of life including Law firms in decision making. I urge NACOSSITES to stand tall and defend us whenever idiots try mocking us. I've silenced many and will continue to silence others including our brothers(Computer Engineering students) if they try to belittle me. I've learnt:
Computer programming and its organization.
Object oriented, web, network and database programming.
Security and intelligence.
MSOffice/Desktop publishing.
Low level languages.
Computer architecture.
Data structures and algorithm.
Digital computer logic.
Operating systems principles.
DBMS.
Compiler principles and design.
Systems analysis and design.
Discrete mathematics of computing.
Microcomputing.
Networking.
Information storage and retreival.
Computer Graphics.
Simulation and modelling.
Software engineering.
Hardware engineering.
Artificial intelligence.
Operations research/decision science.
And a host of others including the numerous mathematical/statistical courses relevant in this field and believe me, I can, at 99.99% confidence level, infer that they are relevant abd I can't allow the knowledge waste like that.. Think outside the box. Engage your brains in relevant games like chess, scrabble and other mentally challenging games. Invest more on google, wikipedia, online journals, hard and softcopy books and relevant literatures instead of TI AND TINY, Kardashians and other silly sh11tz. With these done, it will not only elevate computer science studebts from the level of our present day mockery but will also make us the light of the world.

LOL. Beautiful & funny thrend. I'm still a noob and still trying to learn most things (in school) buh I guess I can get ideas from here.

So I do mini programming & wanna learn web designing. Started with ASP.NET cos I've an idea of VB.NET but I found out I still gatta learn PHP (which I've been avoiding)

Can I get difference btw both?
&& Links to thrends or tutorials on webdesigning.

Btw* I'm horrible at graphics deisgn, even the basics(all my offline apps are white pages). So if I can get help from there too I'll appreciate it too.

Gracias.

Depends, if you are talking about the artificial intelligence in NPCs for video games, it is not that overly complicated. Most AI theories however are not practical at least for the time being.
Thoughts and learning can be easy to transfer into a machine but giving it autonomy and the power to improvise can be complicated because the machine might be too logical and that will complicate things
