kekakuz: you mean a thread for those who will graduate in a Nigerian school and still wount be able to type there own CV

if you are a computer science student and you can't type your own CV then you know that you paid for your certificate and should go hide yourself.

LordRahl001: what about CADS what abt 2D/3D Animations? what about Graphics? anyways i am into like 3 of those and would plan to go into Artificial Intelligence/Robotics and Embedded systems

you just d cramp all your final year courses for computer science to display here?

That will be mighty nice of you. Goodluck and I hope it achieves its aim.

In these days and age, knowing how to write codes is not enough to succeed in the Computing world. Businesses are looking for people with soft skills, business domains knowledge and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.

In my day to day work with clients as an SAP Finance & Controlling consultant, I realize that ability to effectively communicate logical and technical stuff to business managers and system users is of paramount importance to succeed out there.

Knowledge of Business process is very important, except you are going to deal with only scientists throughout your professional life, then you may not bother about this.

What about people skills? Do you know that you need to know how to relate professionally and socially with different kinds of people in the work place and most especially your clients in order to succeed? Well, from my own experience, most people don't like change and that comes to play in the Computing world in a big way. There are people who still believe that computers are "intruders" and a " nuisance" to the usual way of doing things and will do a lot to frustrate the "So-called" new technology project your unit or organisation has been employed to implement.

Therefore, the ability to manage and relate well with different types of clients will contribute immensely to your success as a Computing professional. That's my one cent wink grin

I have materials on the last two. I gave the first two out to a junior colleague crush and she lost them. They were hard copy textbooks. Wicked onessad sad . I have cool materials on simulation and modelling and in AI as my major is channeled towards things of that nature. Send me a PM. You cound equally get anything you want on google including how to create life :-D

WHY DISCREDIT THE SCIENCE OF COMPUTING? PLEASE STOP IT.
There is nothing wrong with compiling your codes on paper; those who can't are the ones who rush to a search-engine/forum to ask dumb questions/ if that is what you do to every little problem then don't consider your-self a Computer scientist/programmer/developer/what-ever you think you are okay!!!
Would get back soon.

How does the mathematical puzzle of Tower of Hanoi works? and what systems can it be integrated into?

Depends, if you are talking about the artificial intelligence in NPCs for video games, it is not that overly complicated. Most AI theories however are not practical at least for the time being.
Thoughts and learning can be easy to transfer into a machine but giving it autonomy and the power to improvise can be complicated because the machine might be too logical and that will complicate things
Tower if Hanoi is used for recursions in regular programming. and i think whatever we talk about should include us making some research on the subject matters. if u have watched rise of the planet apes, The arrangement of those discs of different size is the tower of hanoi. you arrange discs of different sizes from one pole to another given 3 poles and you are asked to arrange all the discs from pole a to pole c with conditions that you can only move a disc at a time and no larger disc should be on a smaller 1 at any point in time!! it can be used to test efficiency and decision making skills.

You are very wicked.

By the way, why are people refusing to mention Maths/Stats and algorithms development here? The AI, graphics, robotics and the likes being mentioned are not feasible without mathematical methods like matrices, linear algebra, trigonometry, search algorithms like bee colony, ant colony, hill climbing, simulated annealing, genetic algorithms, formulated mathematical models from modelling and simulation, etc. Mathematical Relations/Aristotle's logic happens to be the backbone of DBMS(if aRb and bRc, aRc). Also, number techniques is the foundation of data encryption but nobody is saying things like this.
.
.
.
For the graduates, I think we should discuss our challenges in school, outside school and others like projects for our junior colleagues here to learn.

wildprince: LOL. Beautiful & funny thrend. I'm still a noob and still trying to learn most things (in school) buh I guess I can get ideas from here.

So I do mini programming & wanna learn web designing. Started with ASP.NET cos I've an idea of VB.NET but I found out I still gatta learn PHP (which I've been avoiding)

Can I get difference btw both?
&& Links to thrends or tutorials on webdesigning.

Btw* I'm horrible at graphics deisgn, even the basics(all my offline apps are white pages). So if I can get help from there too I'll appreciate it too.

Gracias.

U just need 2 know a thing or two about CSS,

PHP is not that hard, I prefer it to ASP.NET cos its open source.

U can check youtube channels like NewBoston, Php Academy etc, the got pretty cool materials for starters & even pros.

I don't know if any of the Alumni of the old Informatics Institute is here; I'm sure they would have told you that I helped seniors, juniors and even foundation students as much as I could. There were days I hardly had time for myself. I shared knowledge as much as I could. All you had to do was ask, and if I could help, I would. I wasn't an 'A' student o, infact, I sucked theoretically, but practically, I was better than some 'A' students. Its been years I left there but I'm still in contact with quite a few of them. Some are even better IT gurus now. An old course mate recently won a Virgin group innovative competition recently in the UK presented to him by Sir Richard Branson. Bros, Nigeria ICT industry is on the rise. kiss

but you knw we could actually talk and discuss about it and who knws inspiration can spring up!! and we could bring something reasonable out!! we dont need to necessarily write codes but we could talk about algorithms, tools environments and conditions. so to start with, let me ask you sir, how will u address the Tower of Hanoi problem?
some people here..dont know bout to Tower of Hanoi..why nt start by telling us about it..before we start adressing its problem.

i wasn't asking about what it was, i was asking about how it works (technical details not theoretical)

I haven't seen planet of apes. horror?

GodMode:

In foreign universities(even in some African countries), programming is a major part of the syllabus... An average comp. Sci student/graduate learns or is taught at least 15 different programming languages.

Some of them even have knowledge of some programming languages b4 gaining admission.

But in naija,.. Dem no sabi anything even after graduating...
dont you think learning up to 15 programs would be kinda stressful...i prefer focusing on one program and becoming perfect in it.

Mannylex: Am a computer science graduate, its a very interesting course and you must have a flare for it, the good thing is that there are many branches, pick your strenght and major in it, computer science is not only about programming, there are other fields you can thrive in (Networking, Programming, database administration, system analysis and design, system security, computer graphics, computer architecture, hardware, software engineering, web design and so on...) what some people have said here is true, u wont be taught somethings in school(thatz because some of the lecturers are outdated) get information, go to youtube, download video tutorials, dont waste ur data downloading pornn wink get useful information that would improve your skill. People say you can learn more stuffs on computer science without going to university, true! But thatz if u wanna establish your own IT firm if you want to work, a Bsc in computer science is necessary, then you can henceforth pay to get professional qualifications....

Computer science is not about learning how to type or use office tools, it goes beyond that, infact you wont be taught that, itz not as easy as people think! If you have a passion for it, you will enjoy the course. Itz only a computer scientist that could design a website for a big firm or create a database and be paid 1 million naira! I love my course, am a proud naccosite.

Have no fear; Mannylex is here
God bless you sire
