Why Are You Proud To Be Nigerian? by zboyd: 7:17pm On Aug 14, 2014
Labor Day in the States is just around the corner, replete with parades, barbeques and a day off work for some lucky Americans.

Giving honor to the day, a roving reporter on the streets of Dallas, Texas asked passersby "Why Are You Proud To Be American?"

Believe it or not, most people were stumped by the question- some struggled to answer- others just smiled, shook their heads and quickly walked away.

But what of YOU?

If you're a typical Nigerian then you've spent an inordinate amount of time complaining about Nigeria and other Nigerians.

At the same time, most Nigerians are fiercely proud of their country and are proud to be Nigerian.

But...what do you think makes Nigeria and Nigerians so special?

Why are YOU proud to be Nigerian?

Because Nigerians have this can-do spirit, energy, liveliness, self-confidence(self-pride at times), and are achievement-driven and hardworking.

Nigerians generally are jovial, lively and somewhat noisy people. We also know how to keep chains/circles of friends for so many years(something i've noticed is rare among americans) etc. Their penchant for success and achievement drives them to aim for higher goals and achieve success, thus distinguishing them from other africans who tend to be more gentle, docile, relaxed and unpretentious.

On the streets of US here, when you see a black man properly dressed up in corporate shirt tucked in plain trousser, or dressed in sort of another refined dressing other than 'baggy jeans and shirts with miami or NY cap worn backwards on top and fancy sneakers footwears', holding his head up high in the air and walking with a somewhat prideful gait of self-importance, that man is most likely to be a Nigerian, who believes that he is better than everybody around him, can achieve whatever he wants to acheive, is hardly intimidated by anybody or anything, and goes for what he wants. This spirit has been identified as the key that drives Nigerians to success in US.

Nigerians are generally warm, confident, resilient and friendly people

The opposite of a Nigerian would be a Russian ... at least to these clueless but funny teenagers

Nigerians are hard to ignore. We have a way of making our presence known everywhere we go. I only wish that we will have more positive representation in the future.

PTBAN! because we develop a thick skin in any condition we find ourselves in and we tend to flourish where other citizens of the world run around with placards in the name of protests against d government. here we remain quiet and pray silently we get to dat position or somebody from our family gets there and we have our share of d national cake and all that... Yes and we have got dat good vibe, that I dnt know how it will be done but imma do anyway!!!!. and we know how to have fun. cool
