Social Media Connection And My Agric- Proposal To You by ehixking(m): 1:32am On Sep 04, 2014
Friends and brothers,Young African comrades-
How do I start? Maybe probably by sharing this Quotes I found, from God knows where?

“Life: a cycle. A series of events, meetings, and departures. Friends discovered, others lost, Precious time, wastes away. Big droplet tears are shed for yesterday, but are dried in time for tomorrow, until all that remain are foggy, broken memories of a happy yesteryear.”

Before I re-introduce myself to you,I don't Want you to see this as an advert, as a show,a mere article or a post in need of frivolous comments. This is an era I believe the social media can actually be used positively. Some girls come on the social media to expose their half nude pictures-
Boys come to show themselves off behind another man's "2014 Maserati Quattroporte" -this is absolutely not about that. Some just post to receive comments and you trust know my fellow Nigerians, they Would always make you happy instead of telling you the truth. I always laugh like am insane seeing "Orang-utans" upload their pictures and you see comments like
"nice pix" "Great" "Sexy" "You look good"
ridiculous post like that still attract thousands of likes and hundreds of comments-indeed stupid ones..its really crazy!!!

I have actually taken a While to read more about different people from their facebook timeline, nairaland account,tweets,hi5 and several other social networks etc.
And I have concluded that there is a big difference between the Way nigerians use the social media and how others do.
Take for example a canadian Wrote on his facebook profile

"I Would like to start a pharmaceutical company-i just discovered a vaccine for a disease, let's Work together if you are interested.

And right from the comments am sure they have started, something even people he never knew or expected gave their supports and contribution.

Another american Wrote "I have been trying to record a demo tape for the promotion of my first album and here in connecticut my producers keep giving me some whack-hood-ass beat I can't flow to- can anyone be off help.....I need a good producer and a record label.

Two days later, a facebook friend gave him someone's contact who is a record producer and a label owner.....and it would also amaze you to know that, the producer is a mutual friend of them both on Facebook, which made things a lot more easier.

A fellow african wrote,
Am in kumasi right now to launch some of my publications, please friends come along with me and make my day memorable- the next day the young man posted that he wouldn't have believed if he wasn't there that 60% of those in attendance where actually his facebook friends.

If you make front page on Nairaland everyday, If you have 5000 friends on facebook,20,000 followers on twitter and you don't know how to get them to be of help that's your business and now to the business of the day.

Let me re-introduce myself
Am Ehis Abuya and all I know and think about now is Agriculture. I graduated from the Federal University of Agriculture(Abeokuta) and got a higher degree from the department of Agricultural Economic university of Ibadan,my area of specialisation is Agricultural policy and Administration- which has indeed opened my eye to the potentials we have as Nigerians if only we can tap from the wide range of blessings God has bestowed upon us.
I feel very sad travelling from cities to cities and towns to villages seeing farm-able lands wasting away amidst this severe famine, unemployment and rural poverty confronting us.
Oh, how I wish we never had presidents that would convert government projects into personal properties, how I wish the various monies recovered from loots from other countries can be invested into mechanisation of agriculture in Nigeria.
No matter how hard you read per day or your qualification, no matter how well travelled you are or whatsoever even if it just for a minute one still have to sit down and put something into his or her belly, and that's the beauty of Agriculture.
The first occupation I believe God created was Agriculture and have you ever bothered to ask why scientist and doctors haven't been able to replace a big full course dinner meal with a small pill to be taken like we take headache drugs.
I struggled so hard thinking how and what could be done to tackle the problem we have in Nigeria and I realised that the solution begins and end with food.
You might want to ask," how can you say our problem is food, No and No! let tackle corruption and the solution is solved"
Don't be fooled my friend is everybody have something to eat and drink then the rest is nothing. A roman catholic priest once told, me if a man dying of hunger enters anyone's house or shop or probably a mall and picks up some food items and eat, he said its not a sin before man and God.
it was my first time of hearing such so I argued with so much passion that he left me on the spot and we couldn't continue our conversation anymore but as I began to grow in age and wisdom I finally understood what he meant because if you give to someone or provide someone food on the daily, you have given that person a life and that's why the christians always pray to God saying "Give us this day our daily bread". The prayer simply means please God give us life because a man without food would eventually die. Rich men in the north gather hopeless people to themselves and provide them with food everyday and tell me why these people won't be loyal to the rich man even if he as anyone of them to do whatever he wishes.
The reason we must develop our agricultural sector is not something new to every Nigerian. The constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria, under the Fundamental Objectives and directive Principles of State Policy says
It is hereby, accordingly, declared that:
(a) sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria from whom government through this Constitution derives all its powers and authority;
(b) the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government:
And going further you would clearly notice that even adequate feeding of every citizen is the duty of the government and it was stated thus:
(d) that suitable and adequate shelter, suitable and adequate food, reasonable national minimum living wage, old age care and pensions, and unemployment, sick benefits and welfare of the disabled are provided for all citizens.

Tennessee valley authority of the united states that provided jobs for about 20,000 youths at inception is a replica of our River basin development Authority- it provided electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average. TVA, which receives no taxpayer money and makes no profits, also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with agricultural and economic development, but the funny part of this is that several other countries adopted the initiative and it worked, why can't things just work in Nigeria.

And right now, the government is insensitivity to agriculture, well how about you? Oh, you actually tried and you lost real big, how? Did you consult professionals- did you venture into it to make fast money and quit? Did you test your water before stocking your fish in it,or were you an absentee farmer? Oh so you listened to a motivational speaker who told you that you can start small so you decided to plant cassava on just a plot of land, did you use 500 labourers on 500 hectares of land for 500 days that could have been done in 5 days using a mechanised cassava planter ....these are the problems with our agricultural sector, Agriculture can only survive when it is done in mechanised and commercial scale with proper insurance and funding. That the reason I continue to blame the government for everything wrong with our Agricultural sector, bulk of our farmers are old rural farmers with no form of formal education, they are poor and can only afford to plant to feed their house hold and a few more people. They are not educated and not willing to adopt new innovations and technology and young graduates would rather seek for a with collar job than take these risks or borrow from our so called bank of Agriculture where you would be asked to pay about ten percent interest rates, get civil servants as guarantors and pay a part of your money into the band and wait for 3 month before becoming eligible to borrow , please tell me how an unemployed graduate can afford this.
Now I have two solutions to the problem of agriculture and unemployment in Nigeria, its either we all start looking for unavailable white collar jobs or hold our government responsible for what they ought to do. Farmers

My proposal to you...if you are interested in large scale cassava farming you can send an mail to ehixking@gmail.com, I was trained by the International Institute of Tropical agriculture and I would give you the best and with 50 hectares of land you would earn at least fifteen million naira spending 4 million naira in one planting season without moving an inch.

You've spoken well bro but our problem ( Nigeria Youth) are just two things Misplaced priority and I-Dont-Care attitude..

Nigerians have abused the use of internet because they have turn it to a place to search for all sort of things(porn, scamming, online betting) that are not meant to be which in turn has defeated the aim (research) of internet accessibility to every homes in Nigeria ...

There's an adage in Yoruba "Omo to Na shipa, ni obi ee maa gbee" ...

Our government cannot provide job for everybody because the jobs they have is limited compared to the heavy influx of graduates into the labour market on a yearly basis. The essence of the institution we all went to is to be able to acquire some skills (problem solving and entrepreneurial) and above all to be independent (ability to think on your own), self reliant in other to be an asset and not a liability to yourself, your family, your environment, your community and to your generation at large but the reverse is the case...

If we can all wake up from our slumber and do the right thing I believe this our generation have all what it takes to turn things around and right the wrongs of our forefathers ....

Let me end this by saying " Be a plus not a minus because your generation needs you"

Everyone knows agriculture is key but so many other stress keeps them far from it like asses to funds, soft loans, input and sorts

You can always get from BOA(bank of agriculture) or BOI(bank of industry) but u just have to follow the following steps
Go to their office open an account, save 10% of what u want to borrow for 3months and get 2 garrantors(must be civil servants)
Note your business or farm would be inspected.

Very inspiring post. Exactly what I yearn for.
..
Are you in Anambra state and have passion for Agriculture? I need partners, people that are willing to go into low-cost areas in agriculture. Potential animals to raise include goats, grasscutters, fish and rabbits. If you're interested, contact me on Facebook by the name, Ikeme Henry. Thanks.
