Going on the recent form guide, Chelsea are red hot favourites to beat Schalke in their opening Champions League game on the 2014-15 campaign. Schalke arrive to Stamford Bridge having had their worst start to a Bundesliga season ever. Last weekend the Royal Blues were comprehensively beaten 4-1 away at Borussia Mönchengladbach, marking their worst start to a season for 46 years. Still without a win this season in any competition, Jens Keller’s charges already have a mountain to climb with just one point on the board after three league games. For the Germans, it feels like the trip to Chelsea has come at exactly the wrong time, with star players Julian Draxler, Max Meyer and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar all not 100% fit, while Jefferson Farfan, Atsuto Uchida, Sead Kolasinac and Joel Matip are all out injured. As for Chelsea, it feels like everything is coming up smelling like roses for Jose Mourinho’s men. With four wins in four matches at the start of the Premier League season, the Blues have cemented their reputation as the favourites for the domestic title, and with a team bustling with confidence they now begin their assault on the Champions League. Diegoal Costa (seven goals in four games) is on fire, Cesc Fabregas is creating a goal every game for the Pensioners, while Nemanja Matic is rock solid in the defensive midfield role. Thinking about potential changes for Mourinho’s men, John Terry, having played during last weekend’s home win over Swansea, may get the night off against the Germans. Overall, Chelsea will be many people’s favourites to get the three points on Wednesday night, however many Blues fans will remember that 12 months ago their side were similarly billed to beat Basel in the corresponding fixture. That night ended up with the Swiss side winning 2-0. Chelsea are unlikely to make the same mistake again this time around. its definitely a wrong call for d german at this time, though many looking at it as a first litmus test going by d name champions league for the well organise balanced and ranting chelsea side. To me it will only be a game dat will give d blues a chance to improve on d flow and also gve d coach a more sense of reasoning on how best to combine players wen it as to do with substitution. costa and fabrigas ar now a pair, d movement of schurle on d far side is kind of lacking sme tactics avnt seen d potential of d one i use to refer to as skurry bebo. |

Chelsea-Schalke referees lose passports; backups called in. The Serbian crew led by Milorad Mažić have lost their passports after applying to the British embassy for visas. Replacing the unfortunate Mažić and friends are a group led by Ivan Bebek; who'll be aided by Tomislav Petrovic, Miro Grgic, Anto Vucemilovic and Goran Gabril. These are names you need not remember, of course, but it's interesting that this crew was meant to be on Europa League duty this Thursday and will instead be called up to the grownups' tournament. Well done to UEFA for having backup plans |
