thanks for the link but our car issues are not exactly the same ie my odometer is working perfectly while my speedometer reader is stationary at zero when i am moving. can this also be responsible for the occassional check engine light i do see. pls more experts shld comment. speedometer sensor was the solution given in the link, do u tink it suits my own case.

abolore80: Check if the needle is properly fixed. If its okay, then I suspect your speed sensor is bad. But since you said your odometer is working, I suspect probably the sensors are two. Maybe the one that controls the speed is bad. Check your manual to find out. your car year model will also tell if its electronic or cable. if its cable, check if the cable is still okay but if its electronic, then the culprit is your speed sensor. A sample has been posted by GAZZUZ. Its usually around the gear.

UNusually bigger tires was the cause of the issue, changed my tire from 195 65 r15 to 205 65 r15 and the speedometer needle stopped moving. i changed all the tires back to 195 65 r15 and its moving now. typing this so others can learn and stop changing tires too much from factory setting. The current tire is not the factory specs but it made minimal difference

Yes it did, d thing has been moving fine since then. I forgot to state I did sth crazy then in dt I was using 205 65 r15 as front tires n 195 65 r15 as back tires

So front n back tires were of different sizes very crazy stuff
